Has anyone heard anything about this before? "Super excited to be working once again with Finnish artist Manna. New track Lead Me is out 14th September 2011. Her album was recorded by Alain Johannes. That could explain Mark's presence on it.

Alain is currently recording and producing a number of artists in his LA studio, 11AD, including Mark Lanegan, new artist Tilghman and Finnish artist Manna.

it's okay i guess. if anyone doesn't know this yet, you can hear a couple of songs on manna's facebook page if you "like" her. not wishing well though.

Really enjoying this track, even if Mark only gets to sing the chorus (solo) 3x.

Imagine a soundtrack to an apocalyptic re-imagining of the Western, similar to 'Burning Jacobs Ladder', & you should get an idea of the sound. An excellent, weighty number & Manna more than holds her own too, so hats off to her. Mark also shares a credit for the lyrics.

You're welcome, Grump. I love the insolent tone of his voice when he sings "shame" and "blame". And the presence of the banjo is Alain Johannes' influence, for sure. ;D I think there'll be a lot of banjo in the new album.  |

Just found this (really bad) translation of an interview with Manna about Mark's involvement with Wishing Well. If there are any Finnish speakers out there who could translate it better for us, we'd be very grateful. "At least a good tsägä also visited the Wishing Well, the song heard raspikurkku with Mark Lanegan. He recorded his own album in the same studio, heard the music and the Manna that came on the disc.
- Alain recorded the wet at the same time as me. He had recorded a half levystään perhaps, when I got there. They had sumplinut it so that Mark will be back then, when I go. I do not have the recording time than 12 days.
- We had the audio recordings between one day and Mark was gone when singing their own songs. He was then heard my entire stock of Men Lead single and liked it very much. Alain said that it would be great if Mark will sing some songs. Mark really likes a lot of cooperation between the stories and makes them a lot.
- I thought that it’s just a throw. Then it was taken my two songs to his home and wrote his own verse Wishing Welliin. I first thought, that there is some background, but he wanted to do a duet, which has its own stanza. It was a complete surprise to me."

Yeah, I found the original interview and will translate it for you, just a minute... and here we go: "There was good luck to say the least with gravel voiced Mark Lanegan, who performs on Wishing Well. He was recording his own album in the same studio, heard Manna's music, and ended up on the album. - Alain was recording Mark at the same time as me. He had recorded maybe half of his album when I arrived. They had arranged it so, that Mark would continue after I'd finished. I only had 12 days to make the recordings. - We had one day off of recording and Mark had come to the studio to work on some of his own songs. There he had heard my first single "Lead Me" and liked it a lot. Alain said that it 'd be great if he would sing in one of the songs. Mark very much likes collaborations and does them frequently. - I thought they weren't being serious. But then I found out that he actually had taken 2 of my songs with him and written a verse for himself for "Wishing Well". At first I thought it was only some backing vocals or something but it turned out he wanted to do a duet with his own verse. It was a complete surprise to me." I found another interview with Manna talking about Mark (Finnish music magazine Rumba), here's the translation: "One night Johannes played Manna's single "Lead Me" to Lanegan, of which the baritone goblin had nothing but good things to say. - When Alain told about that I was at first like "Oh great, the american liked it". I didn't react to it really, with american small talk being what it is. Then one night Alain told me that Mark had taken home with him the songs "Wishing Well" and "Silent". He had thought that Mark might fit in to sing on them. Oh, would he? He'd fit in on any of them! At first Manna thought he would just be doing backing vocals on her song "Wishing Well". The man went a lot further. - He'd listened to my lyrics, interpreted them and then wrote his own verses for the song! Back in the day as a young Screaming Trees fan I would have never believed that some day Mark Lanegan would be singing a song on my album. Lanegan is the last person to be doing anything unless he feels like it. He had no reason to sing the song other than that he liked it.", Manna says excitedly." I apologize on the interviewers behalf of the term "baritone goblin". In Finnish it sounds ok though and pretty much describes Mark's image here. |

Thanks so much for translating that UnderEther, and for the other interview too. I really love this forum's multicultural-ness. So many nationalities and countries are here. The "baritone goblin" bit is great.....but I can't see him being described as that here. Mark seems to have really liked Manna's songs. |

You're welcome! Manna has nothing but good things to say about Mark in all the interviews I've seen. I'll just add her description of Mark in one:
"Mark is a shy and gifted gentleman who bows to no one. I felt greatly honoured by his feedback on my music and for his presence on my album."
