request for forum help 28 August 2009
« Thread Started on Aug 28, 2009, 4:56pm »

General call to forum members: the onewhiskey forum is recruiting for the following positions:

Live Review Crawler
Description: member will troll through the forum looking for live fan reviews, past and present, to be emailed to the main site for inclusion.
Requires: enough time and patience to do it, and ability to check the main site to determine if said review has already been posted. Must communicate with other crawlers to divide up work and be effective.
Time Investment: will take some time at first to gather old missed reviews, but should become more tolerable when there are only new ones to find (and as posters start to remember to just email them themselves).
Number of positions: 1, though they may choose to find assistants if they like. They will be the point of contact for the site, assistants will report to them.

Article Crawler
Description: member will troll through the forum looking for articles and interviews from magazines or online sources that have been posted to the forum, to be emailed to the main site for inclusion.
Requires: enough time and patience to do it, and ability to check the main site to determine if said article has already been posted. Ability to find source of article and provide a link, so we don't get sued.
Time Investment: will take some time at first to gather old missed articles, but should become more tolerable when there are only new ones to find (and as posters start to remember to just email them themselves).
Number of positions: 1, though they may choose to find assistants if they like. They will be the point of contact for the site, assistants will report to them.

Photo Crawler, Optimizer, & Researcher
Description: member will troll through the forum looking for photos that have been posted, past and present, to be emailed to the main site for inclusion.
Requires: enough time and patience to do it, and ability to check the main site to determine if said photo has already been posted.
*Ability to work with photo program to optimize photos into reasonable file sizes, and sizes compatible with those already being used on main site.
*Must research source of photo to determine correct credit, and find link to include on site. If it has come from a photographer's site that clearly states the photo is not to be reposted without permission, photo crawler will alert main site as to the photo, and the website of the photographer, so permission can be obtained.
Time Investment: will take some time at first to gather old missed photos, but should become more tolerable when there are only new ones to find (and as posters start to remember to just email them themselves). This position has a higher time investment because of the optimizing. You have to like to do this sort of thing, as it gets quite tedious.
Number of positions: 1, though this person may choose to ask others who are capable to assist them. They will be the coordinator and contact person to the main site for any assistants they choose to add.

The purpose of these positions is to restore the main site to being a comprehensive fan resource. The pay is a warm feeling in your heart that you have helped, as well as special credit on the main site for your contribution.

The duration of these positions is for as long as you are able to help out. There is no time limit; older items can be gathered as you have the free time to work on it.

How to Apply: post your interest as a reply to this thread, in your post include your 1st and 2nd choice (if you have one) of position. Please only apply if you seriously want to spend the time - I can tell you, even with a subject you enjoy, this kind of information gathering is very very tedious! After a week or so, I will check to see if anyone wants to help out, and contact you from there. Please don't be offended if you are not 'hired' - the person who is will most likely be contacting you to help anyhow, but it is easiest to have only one person be the main site contact.

Thank you for your interest in onewhiskey.com forums.

I can do either Live Review or Article, with a slight preference for Article.

Only caveat is that sometimes I am off the grid for a week or two, but usually only once or twice a year.

Thanks to you three for volunteering, you should now have access to the new section where we can meet and work on this stuff (it's all the way at the bottom). If others are interested at any time, please PM me!

The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place,
but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

Working as a secretary for a decade I became a high-qualified maker of "mate" which is a sort of tea we drink.
I'll make you some it'll probably taste horrible for you at first so I'll get to do the tea thing and the horrible thing all at once

Is that yerba mate? It packs quite a caffeine wallop.

My forte is desserts, so I'll bring the cookies. Brownies? Gingersnaps? Oatmeal-buttersctoch-chip?

I would be tempted by the photo crawling, I can use photo programs.
I would just need some time to get familiar with the main site photo library
