I couldn't agree more. It came across as a very generic and bland thriller which was only so warmly received becasue of the talented people involved in making it.
I watched Drive last week and absolutely adored it! Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence is a good bad-movie I watched his week. I'm surprised how much I revelled in it's crapiness especially since I absolutely hated the first movie, more than I hate Nic Cage even. And I really hate Nic Cage.

I still think, that Black Swan is cool. And I hate Nicolas Cage. But I really like 'Wild at Heart". Because I love David Lynch

I really liked Black Swan too - it's very much in the style of Repulsion. But I prefer a psychological thriller to a regular thriller anyday. And mirrors are scary Btw, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is brilliant!

oooo...that is totally a favorite of mine. I fell in love with Glen and Marketa and all of their music! I was lucky enough to see The Swell Season in Buffalo last year. Wish I could see them in Vegas on my birthday... www.theswellseason.com/2010.theframes.ie/

oh wow! thanks again, this really looks awesome. are they a couple in real life now? From the bits and pieces I have seen and read, I believe they were friends who fell in love while making Once. Then the fame and age difference pushed them apart. I could be wrong though. My version of Once came with a bonus making of the soundtrack clip that is fascinating.

The Lorax in 3-D was fun. Hard to believe that book is almost 41 years old. One of my absolute favorites!

Oh and I loved Black Swan. I loved the intensity of it. To me it was not just an entertainment, but something raw and true - an allegory of the consuming passion of the artist.
My younger sister was a tremendously talented ballet dancer and the reality of her experience was echoed in that movie. Ballet seems so delicate but the reality for dancers is brutal - bruised toenails falling off, feet that look chewed up, starvation, insomnia, soreness and exhaustion, this demand to practice difficult techniques over and over (have you ever tried to gracefully raise your leg above your head, with proper turnout?), and on top of it all to express this total passion...
It's all real... But the movie transcends dance, or even artforms in general, and it becomes about Art... Forget the title character's madness and that aspect of the movie, and you have a vivid poetic image of what it takes to break through and beyond convention and facade and to burn completely... To let the darkness, the Beast, be unleashed... To realize the transcendence that can only occur when Dark and Light become one... Something great art and the creative process can do.
