Aaron, Is that a chinchila you are holding? They are adorable, I want one how are they to take care of and what do I need to keep one?
p.s. You're adorable too!

Chinchila's are like, high-maintaince rabbits.
I think you'd be better off with a rat, but.... I guess you're free to do whatever you want.

hmmm
Let me balance the idea of a rat vs chinchilla.
Chinchilla wins.

They aren't that bad for maintenance, really. Basically, you're best off to litter train them, which was easy for me since it refused to go otherwise (How thoughtful). So, just clean the litter every couple of days or so and that's the biggest chore. They aren't for people with allergies though. You give them dust baths. I use a fishbowl, so I just put the dust in and let him roll around in there until he's satisfied. Do that every couple of days too, and otherwise there is little else to do. They love raisins and running around, mine loves to bounce off the walls, and can be really great pets.

I think my kids will love one. I've heard that they like the dust bowls. So do they use a litter box or do they go in their cage/aquarium?
They are good with kids, right?

Well, they need a fair-sized cage. Mine's litter pan fits in the cage, so I just keep it there, works pretty well. They should be okay with kids. Mine doesn't bite or anything and it is pretty friendly, so I can't see why it wouldn't be. Though I'm sure some are and some aren't. They don't have claws, so they can't really hurt you
