OFFTOPIC:
I never understood why people wanted that Guitar Hero and my attitude was why not pick up a real guitar...ya know?
Well, a few weeks ago I caved in and bought my son the Wii rockband. I bought it for his b-day which is later in July but, I was convinced that if I didn't try and get it before then they would sell out (which they did) and I wouldn't be able to get it for that day. So here I was at Wal-Mart before midnight when they were to go on sale with a bunch of other people doing the same. They only had 12 and there was about 15 of us and luckily I was 4th.
Well, I really don't get the big deal....Why bother making it the size of a drum machine when it doesn't even sound like a drum. Would it have been too hard to get simulate an actual drum machine which would be alot more fun than beating on something that sounds like a bucket (if that). It's not exactly creative and it shows a lack of inventivness to the people who design this stuff. The hype is ridiculous, you can use the same equipment on an Xbox or Playstation because my son has tried and the only difference is the game disk that gets played on the particular system. So the system is universal but, they make it out to be exclusive to the Wii or whatever.
I'm sure next year there will be an updated version that has a simulated sound but, I will not dole out another $180 for it, my son will have to get a job if he wants it.
The only thing I like is my kids are listenning to bands like Soundgarden, The Ramones, QOTSA, The Police etc etc and are enjoying them and singing along to the music their mother listens to.

As much as I despise those games, they are more addictive than crack. I refuse to buy one though, as I own a couple guitars and a bass, and enjoy picking away at them.

I do like SingStar, tis fun to do at a party with friends. But there aren't a whole lot of cool songs on it, you're able to sing along with much cooler songs if you just put a cd on.

I played it a couple of weekends ago with my nephews and it does introduce them to lots of music they would never find any other way, they think I am a badass cuz I can ace the singing parts on the hardest level, but it frustrates me because I can play the guitar pretty well but can't do the stupid guitar on this game

There is no crossover between the game and reality for the guitar.

Hey, they've been selling out since the day they got popular. As soon as people started playing the games, they went from rock acts like Burning Brides, Hendrix, and Cream to AFI, Disturbed, The Killers, and Tenacious D. Sure there are still good acts on the new games, but I hardly think anyone from AFI, Disturbed, Killers, or Tenacious D is a guitar "hero," or Legends of Rock like the title suggests.

Temple of the Dog's only album was pretty great.
Travelling Wilbury's had an all-star lineup too.

The Murder City Devils.
It's a personal choice. It's rock on a level of purity that I can't describe. Also they are having a concert in September, and I shall be there, to rock.
