This song consists of a rhythm guitar part (played by Chris Goss on the studio recording) and one badass lead guitar part (courtesy of Dave Catching) with a Westerny feel to it. I'm tabbing this out on an acoustic guitar, listening to a version from one of Mark Lanegan and Greg Dulli's acoustic sets so these lead guitar licks represent that more than the studio. There are many little fills played on the lead guitar throughout this song. I've provided a few of these little riffs but, in my opinion, it's a lot more fun to just improvise along with the rhythm. I've left a scale down below that seems to workout alright to do this.
Standard Tuning
These below are the only two chords in the song and they are repeated over and over and over again.
I like to start out playing the song with the chords above and then jump into this below. A good time to do this is when "one day a ship comes in" is sang for the second time, almost a minute into the song.
The numbers at the top of the diagram are the fret numbers starting with "0", which is open-string. The "o" markings are the playable notes for this scale.
And finally...
