That was from a Louvin Brothers double set from last year - disc 1 was the Satan Is Real album, the other is a "best of" (Handpicked Songs 1955-1962), with tracks selected by various contemporary artists ("various" seems to be the word to describe it too! Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton, Zooey Deschanel, Jim James, some blokey out of the Black Angels etc) with a booklet of quotes about why each track was picked. Mark's reasoning, unsurprisingly, is the shortest thing in there.

This is all pretty exciting shit, on top of the fact that Imitations is less than a month out...

Yes, the sub extends to vinyl colour (although any left over will be available to early preorders) and any other freebies yet to be announced. Do we know this for sure? I don't think I've seen a source other than speculation on this board.

To answer the question from indiewindy, Mark chose 2 songs from the Cook County sessions, Halcyon Daze, and Grey Goes Black for the anthology. The future of the other songs from those sessions ( 18 in all although not all on the Cook County sound track ) will be decided by Mark. But I can tell you from experience, they are special. RJ, please forgive me for speaking plainly. You are in fact in sole posession of the legal publishing rights to these songs? In light of the present incident with the rouge Screaming Trees boxset guy, it is absolutely wonderful that you are so respectful of the artists wishes when you technically can legally release whatever you want from these sessions whenever and however you choose. A thousand cheers for taking the high road, and I look forward to hearing whatever from these sessions comes to be released- if it takes 10 years for it all to come out, so be it.

Gc, there's this nifty trick where you can click on someone's username and select a link to see their recent posts (in this case, all of Randall's posts), which would then tell you that he started off posting this - "Hi My name is Randall Jamail and I was the producer of the recording sessions that included the songs from the movie Cook County. There we 15 songs recorded during those sessions. Also, if you are interested, I produced mark's contribution to The West Memphis 3 compilation." You could do that. Or you could be polite and ask Randall how he seems to know so much. Or, you could take the troll route and be offensive, and incidentally, make yourself look ignorant. I highly recommend either of the first two options, gc, and most certainly DON'T recommend the last. As a long-time-ish member of this board, I really appreciate people like Randall coming here and sharing their first-hand knowledge and experiences, and want them, and him, to continue to feel welcome. I also want you to feel welcome, gc, to discourse freely, to share your opinions, get into lively arguments discussions (as sometimes happns around here), and enjoy this community of fans. Cheers.

Weird - as I read grumpycat's post as a pleasant thankyou to Randall for being respectful to the artist by having stuff to hand and not flinging it out without permission/consultation as opposed to the douchery of the ex-friend selling stuff behind the artist's back. Nothing trollish or offensive there, unless I'm missing something.

randall - thanks so much for the reply and insight! very much appreciated. couple quick questions in response if you don't mind. so the two tracks from the cook county sessions featured on the anthology - halcyon daze & grey goes black - were not featured in the film, correct? from what i found watching the movie and checking youtube, the only tracks from these sessions in the film's soundtrack are: suite for dying love, no long goodbye, i'll go where you send me, checkout, and what sounds like a killer alt version of methamphetamine blues. so the two anthology tracks are unique from these? and can we assume grey goes black is an early alt version of the track on blues funeral?
can't wait to hear them of course but must admit i'm slightly disappointed! from the limited amount we can hear, the songs from the cook county sessions sound incredible - up there potentially with some mark's very best stuff. absolutely dying to hear full versions of them. oh well, hopefully someday...

I agree with the assessment that Grumpycat is being complimentary for having respect to the artist(s) and not trying to cash in somehow. These songs will be fun to hear at some point in complete form and formal release.

There is really no other way to understand grumpycat's message as anything other than praise and admiration for Randall. Maybe there's some glitch in the board that makes completely different words appear on Grumpella's screen.

Hello everyone, Wow, I feel old. I am trying to understand the disagreement and I must admit, I better at spotting sarcasm in lyrics than in threads but I chose to accept grumpycat's message as a compliment. As to brewing question. No neither Halcyon Daze nor Grey Goes Black we on the Cook County soundtrack and yes, Grey is an early version of the song on Blues funeral. Mark is my friend and I have been lucky enough to have worked with him off and on since 1995. I respect him immensely. I believe an essential element to creating music with artists is trust and that is not a part time affair. I have to be trusted in and out of the studio if an artists is going to be willing to explore new territory. Only the artist knows if what they create represents their vision. I am not the artists, just a canvas stretcher...of sorts. Mark is very intelligent and know what pieces of his art should be shown. The rest of us are simply entitled to have an opinion and of course to enjoy. Best to all of you Randall
