I'd like it very much if he branched out into other genres, maybe mixing unconventional instruments with his past acoustic fare. That would be really cool IMO. I'm thinking Dead Can Dance, for example. Holy shit that would be incredible. I believe he could pull that off quite comfortably. He's got enough strenght in both voice and lyrics. I guess we can dream

I'm a Dead Can Dance fan so I'd welcome that with open arms and I agree that he could pull it off quite comfortably.
Tinariwen play something similar don't they? Perhaps that's a sign of things to come?

I'm more tired of the musical direction the band has been going in. Would rather hear something heavier, or acoustic... This... That being said, it's obviously the direction Mark wants and being a die-hard Lanefan, I'll continue to buy and listen to every bit of vinyl he puts out. Just don't get as excited as I used to...lower expectations I guess.

I'm more tired of the musical direction the band has been going in. Would rather hear something heavier, or acoustic... Look we all have our favourite era's but he wants to continue to challenge himself and us and I can only wonder what his answer would be to the ones who don't want him to change. There are a few songs I've not been that enamoured with but I always look forward to hearing new stuff and am liking the new offerings so far 🙂

I'm enjoying Nocturne, it sounds great both musically and vocally. I'm looking forward to hearing that live.
Beehive is taking a bit longer to grow on me. Will be interesting to see how they both fit into the flow of the album.

Some of you have an absolutely hilarious definition of electronica.

Some of you have an absolutely hilarious definition of electronica. Indeed. I laugh at that almost as much as the length some people will go, to force themselves to continue to be the superfan to their idols who have obviously fallen off. See John Frusciante.

Uncut gives it 8/10 and a fairly prominent billing, so that's a bit more encouraging.
I'm with inthefade here, I don't think it's the style of music as such, but it has all got a bit MLB by numbers and I'd rather hear something that sounds like there's been more work on the arrangements. I'd say that the fact that there's divided opinion here (and we're all fans) tells you that the recent output has been more prolific than interesting. I'd almost rather go back to the interminable waits between albums. I'm more encouraged by the fact that there's new contributors to this album.

Review from Uncut imgur.com/a/wnAfcSo Jeff Fielder wasn't involved on Gargoyle. Do you remember an interview with him from the end of 2015, he told that they are going to studio in January...So maybe there will be another album?

So Jeff Fielder wasn't involved on Gargoyle. Do you remember an interview with him from the end of 2015, he told that they are going to studio in January...So maybe there will be another album? Weird. I also remember one interview where he said the new album will be more of a band record. It's surprising that he wasn't involved. Anyway, great reviews so far. If anyone has that Mojo review, please post it here.
