I was listening to this interview with Greg Duli: consequenceofsound.net/2018/08/kyle-meredith-the-afghan-whigs/Around Greg mentions that somewhere down the line there will be another Gutter Twins record and possibly a record with his wife.... Per Greg "I think there will be a Gutter Twins record somewhere down the line, but make no mistake, Mark Lanegan is the hardest working man in show business. That guy has a solo record in the can, the amazing Duke Garwood and I know that he is doing a record with his wife too, which I've heard some of that and it's fantastic."

He said on twitter some time ago that he will be working on his new record the whole winter so I'm pretty sure it will be out next spring.

Oh man this is great news, had no idea but was hoping he would make another solo album. The project with the wife is certainly interesting as well

Oh yeah I got it, just didn't think he'd crank one out again so quickly in the midst of all the touring, Garwood album, etc. Listening to that interview, sounds to me like the album is already pretty much done. Just caught me off guard, but good news indeed!

Can't wait! I wonder what sort of direction the new record will move in. I've enjoyed Mark's foray into electronica, Gargoyle is especially beautiful but I believe he could branch out into other genres with ease and finesse. Fingers crossed!

I know he has done more material with Rob Marshall, but how much of that will comprise the new album is anyone's guess.

And let's not forget that Mark said last year that he has an album with Sietse Van Gorkom coming. Some speculated that it is the same album as With Animals but it's clear now that's not the case. I guess this will be the next solo album.

There is a brief interview of Mark and Duke in the last Issue of Rolling Stone Magazine (French edition). From Mark's first answer:
"I will be release a double album next year and I am currently working on a new book. My memoirs!"

Damn, double album? Surprising. His last few albums were around 30 minutes so that is quite the change. I wonder how will it sound, given this comment "I have a double album coming out next year that’ll probably put off the people that enjoyed my last record."

This is getting more interesting by the day. BTW, thanks for posting that great interview. This is pure gold:
"I just try and create music for people who… (pauses) seek healing. I believe the most important thing about music is it has healing qualities. I know that making the music heals me, it’s the strongest medicine I’ve ever found for the various ailments that I always had. The depressions that I’ve had, substance abuse problems that have dogged me my entire life, the heartache of relationships, the many-many relationships that I’ve had that didn’t work out… You know, just the heartache and the natural pain of being human, it’s bound to happen to everybody."
The interview does allude to him lighting a cigarette--I hope he's not back on the cigs!

Per that interview: He’s just finished recording its follow-up, Somebody’s Knocking, due for release in 2019. A double album recorded in 11 days, it sees Lanegan continuing to experiment with the electronic elements that have crept into his brooding, bluesy solo work since 2012’s Blues Funeral.

Something tells me that he did not record this new double album in 11 days. I bet the interviewer got that mixed up with With Animals.

Black Fungi. Another challenging title to ask about in HMV if you still do that kinda thing.
