jho can you do a breakdown of albums? how many songs from each and such. (too lazy/busy/etc to do it myself).
early songs have longer back stories. some recent songs barely anything at all. is that impression accurate?
bombed, yeah I noticed no explanation just the lyrics. the lyrics stand for themselves? the backstory has been written elsewhere before?
no song from the 1st solo album, was surprised about that

So am I reading that correctly - that the featured songs are just from the past few years, rather than covering work from across his entire career? No, there's roughly 30 songs covered over the span of his solo career (from Winding Sheet to future projects). There's even a few blurbs/songs from side projects so it's not just limited to his solo albums. AS someone noted before, it's a great extension to his first book on that 'great extension of the 1st book theme' Houston (just had it on a bit ago) is not mentioned in sleevenotes but there is some 'splaining in the 1st book including on that hypnotic, repeatable/ 'play it again, Sam' Way to Tomorrow I didn't realize Mirrored was a song written by Lanegan-- I stumbled upon it on YouTube years ago, before it was released on the anthology -- I thought it was a cover. I don't get the explanation/ 'telling insight' of it in sleevenotes. As it's described is not what my ears have heard

Definitely. I always knew it had a sad/emotional undertone, but after I read the summary the perspective change hits you like a ton of bricks Indeed, did not see that coming at all. wow, you guys have me really intrigued now. that song is a sentimental favorite as it is one that drew me to Mark Lanegan when I first heard it so long ago on the Hype! Soundtrack....oh 1996, where did you go...? Hope my book gets here soon!

Yeah...I love that F’n song and it was the most honest and sad part of the book. I’ll feel much differently listening to it for the rest of my life, but I am glad Mark shared the meaning. Imagine singing that in front of an audience for twenty years and nobody really understood the context and pain. F’n brutal

Got my book in a few days ago..... The insight is great and I highly recommend picking it up. Love the fan artwork as well! Remember when mark was on twitter about 8 months ago asking who drew this of him / painted that? At the time I figured it was for the new album, but now it all makes sense. He hand selected fan art, contacted the owners, and used them for this book. Very cool!
Can't wait for his autobiography!!

Mine came in the mail today. Has been very moving so far. I've had to put it down too many times as I couldn't continue reading due to the tears forming....
I know these are mark's songs, mark's stories.....but reading about them sure brings you back to the time and place when you first heard them, sometimes back 20 years, and you are momentarily again 20 years younger.

Contacted Lucy at Pomoma Books and unfortunately she hasn't come across any copies of "Sleevenotes" in a awhile. It's the only thing missing right now from my Lanegan collection so I'm eager to a least get a glimpse of it somehow. I'm assuming it's a slim volume of limited pages so I'm wondering what it would take to convince some lucky owner of this rare tome to scan it and post a pdf somewhere. I've already checked some of the bibliographic archive sites to see if copies are available for on-line viewing and/or downloading but so far no luck.

I think they realised even at the last few shows on the MLB tour of 2019 that it was going out of print and the merch stall was selling it at £25 at the Roundhouse in London, when it usually went for it's RRP of 7.99. I remember seeing a few people buying it and then complaining when they saw the RRP on the back. Possibly still looking like a good purchase now though, as it's so hard to get.
