Sad to see the announcement on the main site, but totally understandable. Very many thanks from me. I hope this forum can continue even so and hopefully we’ll see you here. I also hope the forum can survive as I don't think the reasons given about Social Media and the official site are fair. -The official site seems to have been abandoned and still doesn't have new tour dates. - Facebook is slow to get posts. A lot of people like me don't use Twitter as it is full of arseholes.

Thanks indeed! Unfortunately a fansite is kind of outdated these days but i loved using it in the past, and am grateful that it existed when it did.
I too hope that the forum remains, as it’s a great way to stay in touch with other Lanegan fans from all over the world.

It's sad to read this and slightly puzzling given, IMO, Facebook seems to be on the decline (I've never used it but it definitely seems to be less popular among people I know). Plus, as mentioned, the official site is quite poor with its updates.
Regardless of that, thanks Raeni for all the work on the site over the years. I have always found it my first-stop for new information on albums and tours.

Thank you so much Raeni for onewhiskey.com. It is very sad news, but I wonder how long you thought the site would last when you started, 20+ years is no easy feat, it served its purpose. Well done!

That is indeed sad. 22 years, gosh, that is a long time. Thank you for the dedication to keep this place running. I haven't used the main site a lot recently, but used the awesome tour-database to transfer everything over to setlist.fm, so that the gathered knowledge is preserved over there. Guess the idea wasn't so bad after all. I hope that the forum will stay, as it still is my ML source #1

Thanks guys, just to clarify, the forum isn't changing. It's free, and all it requires is for me to check in once a day to approve any pending members. So don't worry about that. The main site will stay where it is, as is it. Since no one really goes there anymore, I'm simply not going to update it. Life has been kicking me hard the past little while, and I just can't manage to stay updated in the amount of free time I have. Maybe someday it will be different.

Met up with a forumee just over a week ago in Vienna and we worked out we’d actually connected at least around 2005/6 on this forum 😊👍 I also see that the forum will continue so that’s great

The main site is onewhiskey.com - it's been there since the 90s, and at the time this forum got added many years later it was inconceivable to me that anyone would even know about this forum unless they were site visitors. Again, this is how much things have changed through the years. Websites were the places people went for solid information and to see what was really going on - forums like this were just additional places and fun to connect with other fans. But over the years we have lost the idea of a 'home' page or central area of focus. It used to be that everyone would contribute to a single source, so there would always be one place everyone could go for everything, and everything contributed would be properly credited as to where it came from and who brought it to the site. All that has been replaced as people now want to post their own information in places where it appears as though they are the originators of the information. It makes me sort of sad, really, as information is fragmented out in so many different places and it just takes more time to have to go all over the place not to 'miss anything'. Or alternatively, you now have to make the same post in many different places if you really have a desire to share with as many people as possible. And so many things, like articles, photos, etc, get posted with no credits whatsoever. It's almost as if by being the one to post it, you become the 'creator' of it all by yourself. The same way that people will get on a page and say "This has probably been posted somewhere but I can't be bothered to try to go back through all the posts and find it - does anyone know who played guitar on the 2001 tour?" That's why I always kept up the website - because you don't have to scroll through years of conversation to figure that out. It's all gathered in a very organized fashion, right where you need it. But that's no longer how the world works. I am not the only one who's sad about that, but this is how it is. It seems pointless to continue to update a site people don't even know exists anymore.

Raeni, I've been a fringe member of this and the Saplings for so long that I barely remember where it all started. I was at the EMP opening cookout and truly enjoyed meeting so many people who had a musical obsession that matched mine.
Thank you for all the hard work and effort you put in over the years. We all owe you a little bit of something (not sure what) for all of that creativity and care.
When I first joined up, life had been kicking me around a bit, too. In fact, I was a solid mess for a number of years. Too much drinking, too much pain-- just a lot of bad decisions. Point is this: I don't know what's happening in your life right now, but if there is anything I can do to help, please reach out. Some of what carried me through those years-- especially with the Saplings for a few years there -- was the community that grew around that group and your site. If I can help, I will.

Raeni!!!!! Debbi Sullivan!!!!! Thank you so much for this site!!!! I don't even remember when I stumbled upon it??? I've been a fan of M Lanegan since March 2005, when I accidentally happened to hear him sing with Queens of the Stone Age at a music store record release (Virgin Music at Union Square, which is, sadly, no longer there ) for release of Lullabies to Paralyze. Burn the Witch anyone!?! ?!!!! (good song) I was hooked on Lanegan since hearing him sing live that day. Didn't get to see him again for 2 years b/c although he had come through town- with Twilight Singers I think- I didn't know about it because he himself did not promote his own shows on his website or anywhere. Then by 2007 I stumbled on this website- one whiskey, words from that great song, One Whiskey for every ghost, it burns and it bleeds.... from that great album.... From this website I learned he would be in town performing with Soulsavers. I got to see them play on 23rd St at Blender Theatre... it had a different name then or now... I've gotten so much M Lanegan related info from this site & this forum. It's the best! You forumites are the best! Thanks for all you've done, Raeni, and for all your contributions forumites. Let's keep this forum going! (I'm not too keen myself on the fb fanpage, I prefer the more club like/ friendly feel of here, tbh)

Sad to see this news, I've only just seen it as I usually come straight to the forums, but I want to check something in the discography section. Have some great memoires of this site especially of when Mark first started doing the Live CD's and we were helping each other pick them up from gigs.
Have you considered doing a One Whiskey Facebook group to keep the community going?

Post by raeni on Mar 26, 2020 14:42:39 GMT -5
Well the forum is still going. But there are so many FB groups now, that was part of the problem. I was trying to keep the site updated on a very limited time budget, but no one was going there to look at it. Instead you have to go to one of the many FB groups, and the same notice has to be posted to all the groups, and the same people belong to most of the groups and make the same posts over and over - it just seemed a lot of wasted effort. I definitely don't want to add another FB group. Also, Mark's management has changed and the new one hasn't supplied me with any information, so I can't get news any sooner than anyone else. And now if people want to know something, they go on Twitter and ask Mark themselves, so again, no real need for the site.
