I didn't go to this show, but one of my friends did so I'll be the first to put something up.... damn americans are lazy as shit ... even the most hardcore Borracho should have woken up by now to report back props to the Euros for timely posting of show information. Here is what she said about last night, it's brief: Now for last night...The long anticipated Gutter Twins show...It was sold out, but of course I bought my ticket as soon as they went on sale. <<Did someone die?!!?!?! They couldn't have looked more apathetic! I have to say Greg did try to get the band going, but to no avail. The only time they perked up for a bit was when a video camera was in their faces. For real, like inches away when Greg was tickling the ivories. And a HUGE thanks to you...you never let me down when it comes to getting tracks. I didn't realize the reason I could not find Saturnalia anywhere was because it wasn't released yet. So you could only imagine how VIP I felt when I started talking about it to some hardcore fans there and they were very impressed that I had it! tee hee. Thanks, always keepin' me cool. Maybe that's why they were so boring last night. No one knows the songs, so they are not getting a high level of energy from the crowd to play off of. I knew the songs, though >> Anyone have a setlist? from what she wrote I'm assuming it's still main set of entire album, followed by oldies in encore Christopher p.s. is anyone taping Seattle? and anyone send me a pm if you're going to Showbox, god knows, I need to meet more folks

Not lazy. I just drove back to LA from SF this afternoon. Now I have a ton of shit to do before tomorrow.
Short version: I don't agree with your friend, I thought it was great. The band was really tight, Mark's voice was in fine form. A caveat is that we were pretty far back, so I wasn't expecting to feel the same energy from the crowd as you might up front. And, we were sharing our table with a guy who's been a rabid Lanegan fan for 20 years, so he & I were having a great time.
Setlist was similar to previous shows. All of the album as far as I can remember, plus Live With Me & Down The Line. Encore was 3 Lanegan songs & 3 TS songs.

I don't know...I have mixed feelings. I was really looking forward to the show (obviously), and while I didn't leave disappointed, I wasn't blown away. I never expect much 'energy', so it wasn't and issue. And whilst not knowing most of the material didn't help, even the TS and Lanegan songs didn't really blow stand out like they have done in the past - I think the bulk of the problem was the sound...the mix, to be exact. I was right at the front, so perhaps things were clearer the further back you went, but it was difficult to hear the vocals. After first couple of songs, Greg kept asking for the guitars to be turned up and the vocals just ended up getting lost in the mix. Criminal. On the quieter songs (i.e., with keys), it worked better, but at no point did Lanegan's voice do what it always does to me. The good news though, is that he seems to have a new shirt for this tour - the trousers seem to be exactly the same ones for all of the Soulsavers and Isobel Campbell shows I saw last year. As for the set list: And, as usual, brilliant posters for sale (series of 100, signed by the artist). The photo doesn't do it justice, but

The sound was good where we were - center back, table in front of the terrace, right next to the stairs. Lanegan's vocals came through really well, except maybe on one or two songs. Only other problem was occasional mic feedback. (Caveat - this is filtered through my earplugs, but they are good Etymotics, so they generally don't distort the sound.) I have good intentions of writing a longer review tonight after I get stuff done...we'll see...

And, as usual, brilliant posters for sale (series of 100, signed by the artist). The photo doesn't do it justice, but cool. no posters at the UK show, and i have no idea why not.. there are plenty of poster artists over here, and it'd be a good way of making a bit of money on merch over here.. i dont want a shitty tshirt, i want a poster. who's the artist, do they have a website?

My wife's niece was in LA and was an extra for the filming of the big finale of this movie. Mark must have gotten a perm after the pictures for the album were shot.

I don't know. Looked pretty professional. The Beggar's site has a link for Shirts under the MLB tab, but no products and I have never seen it anywhere else.

who's the artist, do they have a website? The ones at the show sold out, but it's well worth trying again. The detail on the poster is as follows: "Poster Design & Printing...2008 LIL-TUFFY.COM", but then that usefully tells you it's under construction and re-directs to: www.gigposters.com/designer/6970_Lil_Tuffy.htmlAnyway, as you might have guessed, the artist's name is Tuffy. As for the t-shirts, I thought they were pretty poor, both in terms of design and also quality. There were quite a few options in terms of colour and style, but all a bit naff.

I have good intentions of writing a longer review tonight after I get stuff done...we'll see... OK, those good intentions are completely gone now. Why would I want to write more about the show, when I can be sitting in front of the good stereo in the living room listening to Saturnalia at high volume? I thought that it would be anti-climactic getting the CD after having listened to all the songs on the online stream multiple times before the show. But the real thing is just so beautiful that I am practically speechless. (Only other thing possibly of interest to add about the show is that Dave Catching was there, hanging out with the guys before the show, and then saw him inside during the GN & GT sets). (Oh, and I was bummed that they only had the women's version of the red bulls shirt in small and medium sizes, no large. Come on guys, what about we women who have boobs?? The nice merch lady let me take a medium to try on in the restroom, but no luck. So I had to settle for the men's version).

And for an unbiased review of the show...consider my husband, aka "the guy I dragged to the show", who hadn't heard any of the songs (except whatever was coming out of my office) and isn't really a fan, except for liking the Trees.
He thought it was a good show, thought the band played really well together, especially given that it was only the 5th show. And he really liked All Misery/Flowers, which I wouldn't necessarily have expected.
And I don't think he was just humoring me, because we were staying at the motel right next door, and I had given him complete permission to leave early if he didn't like it.

the show was solid all around.
kind of a tough one to write a review for as it seems like you could substitute the same remarks from any of the previous four shows and they would fit. the sit list was exactly what you would expect...which doesn't mean it was a bad show by any means, rather it was one of the most memorable i have been to.
i guess in other words, "you had to be there."

Apparently, the show has been recorded. I hope they are planning to release a live dvd.... It was recorded, but I don't think there is much cause for excitement...sadly. I think all of the Noise Pop shows are being recorded (or at least the 4 I have been to all were), so I think that's driven by the festival, rather than the band - if anything is released, it's unlikely to be the full set (as we'd all like). I think there's only been one camera each night, so it's not exactly a highly-quality affair.

the entire show was definitely recorded.
i stood next to one of the guys filming the entire set from the front row on the right hand side. in the front of the left hand side there was another camera going the entire show. should think there was at least from the center and further back as well.
all the sets that night were recorded by at least 3-4 camera if not more. in fact, it was almost frustrating at times. luckily the guy filming next to me was pretty chill, at the end of the set, he reached up and peeled the set-list next to dulli's keyboard for me.
the camera keys were very noticeable during the monotonix set...what a strange fucking half hour that was. if i did't know they were a real band, i would swear it was an elaborate (or not so elaborate) prank being pulled on the audience. still, somehow engaging nonetheless...
of course, i mention that because it didn't seem to be same few photographers filming during each set. i know there was a different guy filming right next to me for Great Northern and the Gutter Twins set too.
gah, rambling. morning. ugh.
