when you look at the election map it is just simply amazing to me how geographically polarized our country is. west and east coasts are liberal democrats, and the whole fucking middle are conservative ibeciles.
you could fit every liberal living in the middle of the country into the fucking corn palace and still have ample room for a barn dance.
what a bunch of shit. but this talk of leaving the US is ridiculous. keep in mind that all these conservative baby boomers are getting older and WILL die. the republicans only have another 10-15 years before liberals can take over. so have patience, and just temporarily move to the east or west coasts until all this happens.
and the saddest thing about all this is that the most important issue to republicans was NOT W's ill-conceived war on errorism, it was "moral" and "family values" issues.
i guess the new morality is discrimination and loss of freedom.

The trouble is, the whole terrorism thing will probably never affect the "heartland" of the US, as there's bugger all worth attacking. So, without any real threat hanging over them, the only real issues they had to vote for are the ones that the 2 main parties decide to involve them in. And the promise of no tax raises and the "threat" of having their religious traditions altered in any shape or form was sadly all that was important to a lot of people in these states. A sweeping generalisation I know, but this time round, Liberalism had absolutely nothing to offer to these communities and it was an incredibly clever/insidious (depending on viewpoint) move by the Republicans to bring up the Gay Marriage/Civil Union referendum on the day of the General Election

The trouble is, the whole terrorism thing will probably never affect the "heartland" of the US I've been saying this for a while now. It's funny how everyone's all concerned about security in the sticks, while New Yorkers are voting for change.

It's probably because New Yorkers not only had to deal with the attack in the first place (showing incredible and admirable humanity and community in doing so, it has to be said), but also the aftereffects in the overtightening of their security and the erosion of their civil liberties, all done in "their" name. A lot of people in the upper eschelons of Government would have done well to look at the people's response to 9/11 and used that to unite people and communities. Instead, they've created a climate of division and suspicion. One sad lesson that governments the World over never seem to learn (we have it in the UK with education and the NHS) - not everything has to be done for financial benefit. Sometimes things should just be done for the benefit and by the will of the people - and not every action should be met with a greater reaction...

*sigh* As much as I would like to move away from here, I don't really see that happening. Stuck with Bush for four more years. *shiver* Think I'll just stay in Seattle where it's cold and expensive. Seattle is quite lovely. Even if Kerry had won presidency, I'd still be trying to leave Detroit. Doesn't make a difference.

that's confused me somewhat; why did alaska go for Bush? i would have thought the Canadian influence might have swung the vote the other way there.

Found this on t'internet: Wouldn't that be so perfect for everyone involved? You KNOW if it weren't for the shitty weather, everyone from the non-Jesusland states would move to Canada.

why did alaska go for Bush? Dunno - maybe he promised to pay its heating bills for a year or something... Or there's plenty of "statistical" conspiracies abounding, like this one

I've been a lot of places, but never Detroit. Funny cause it's like only 3-4 hrs from here.
Seattle rocks. The people are kinda weird though.
