Sad news, but thankful to Mark for his artistic gifts - and also thankful to all in this forum who admired those gifts and generously shared their thoughts, passions, and various live shows. Of my few friends, only my wife and one other person know that I am a Mark Lanegan fan. My friend John, who told me about Mark's death, also painted the painting in my avatar. I brought it to the show my wife and I went to at Maurer Hall, Old Town School of Folk Music, Chicago, IL, USA Oct 10 2013. When I finally got up to Mark to have him sign it after the show, he pulled it away and said, Thank you very much and made like he was going to keep it and put it behind him. I was kind of stunned and didn't know what to say....he starts laughing as I am kind of stammering and finally signs it and gives it back to me. He really enjoyed that. Him and my wife had a great laugh.I was speechless. I just remember thinking how pale and thin he was. Haha, classic. I remember when I had some records for him to sign, lining up pretty excited...then when the moment came I all but froze. Handed the records over and stammered something about "Go Clippers!" (NBA team who he supported). He was so gracious. A very affecting presence.

Got my book in the mail and will probably read it tonight. Tis a short read. However, since it's just an extension of his last book and fills in the gaps for songs that came after the last book, I noticed a few things in the back. 1) Murder in Fugue (new song): Looks like Mark has another collaboration with a producer / musician names Alessio Natalizia, know as Not Waving. It mentions that he recorded six songs...buy the book to read the rest. 2)Seven Gates (new song) - Just the name of a song for the 2020 release of Black Phoebe...buy the book to read the rest. So am I reading that correctly - that the featured songs are just from the past few years, rather than covering work from across his entire career?

Thanks for the info! Still no indication on pressing numbers though, other than to state it's limited and the "first" pressing only. Possibly they're going to take a stab at pressing enough on blue to cater for initial demand plus a few more, then a standard black repressing later?

Before reading this thread, the only track that ever occurred to me as being too long was Tiny Grain of Truth. But had never heard it mentioned elsewhere - indeed, I get the impression that most love it. It's one of my least-preferred tracks on the album, and think Deep Black Vanishing Train would have been a much better closer.
Thinking about the question posed by the OP and the rest of the album, I think only Bleeding Muddy Water qualifies for me - and it doesn't really bother me too much. Ode to Sad Disco is also a longer piece, but that seems to work. So yeah, Tiny Grain of Truth - much too long haha!

Great that it's available in the US...but any news on where folks outside both the US/UK could order from would be super.

No idea what happened to One Way Conversation but it's well worthy of inclusion.
Personally I prefer the alternate version of Anita Grey also, though both versions are great. I found my way to Lanegan/Screaming Trees through being a fan of QOTSA/Josh Homme, so I admit the 'released' version is truer to the Trees overall sound.
This is fantastic news though, any further updates greatly appreciated!

Really sorry to hear of everyone's delays in receiving their packages; one yellow copy arrived safe & sound in New Zealand yesterday. If it's any consolation, those yet to feast their eyes will be well pleased when the packages finally find their new homes! In re: the nice little surprise on the last page of the booklet that others have referred to, this seems like as good a place as any to say thanks to raeni and everyone else here for making this forum and the main site such a great resource. Agreed! i really hope Bubblegum with get a proper reissue at some point. it obviously needs to be a 2XLP. and Field Songs needs to be issue period. Agreed, particularly concerning Field Songs. The presence of the Field Songs tracks on this box set are what made it a must-purchase for me.

Well it's nice that there are cheaper shipping options available, but a shame for the people that already ordered and paid $58 for priority international shipping... Indeed, that's why I said I was hoping they could ship mine First Class now. Which, happily, they can. I just sent them an email explaining the situation & if they could please ship mine First Class and refund me the difference on the price already paid for Priority. I can only assume they'll do the same for others if requested, they seem a really decent outfit.

It looks like they now offer cheaper worldwide First Class and Priority Mail options. Well done to them for doing the reasonable thing. It's fantastic they are even putting this out - I'm really looking forward to it - but it was a small shame the thread understandably features heavy discussion on shipping, rather than the release itself. I was still willing to pay the international price listed - although now I'm hoping they can ship mine First Class instead!

And yeah Marks "vocals" on this one make the ones on River in the Road sound like Song for the Dead ... did I make the right analogy? Totally get that analogy. It's a good album, and it's great if Homme can draw inspiration from these 'collaborations'. The way the names of various contributors were dropped in every press release seems a little misleading, however, compared to the prominent role they (well, Lanegan) have played on certain past albums. To say ...Like Clockwork features Lanegan, Elton & Reznor is a bit like hyping Rated R for featuring Rob Halford. Yes, they're in there, but they're buried deep.

I also would be dead keen to pick this up on vinyl. Have emailed both Sub Pop and MOV in the past, only received a response from MOV similar to what others have posted above..."Don't know when & if this is gonna happen"...maybe they just pull prospective release names out of a hat.

It's a very nice effort, and would be a great Lanegan song to have, but I prefer the original...it's the way the vocals intertwine & lie together that make it such a magic song. Mark & Martina are better singers than either of The XX duo, but that's just why it doesn't work as well - their (M&M) voices are too singular; it's plainly obvious that it's two very different voices singing the same tune.
Cloud be clouded in my opinion a little as I'm not really a Topley-Bird fan; people rave about her work on Maxinquaye, but the songs she features on are among my least-favourite on that album!

Cool show in Auckland last night, magical to hear the new songs live. Really enjoyed Pendulum, Creeping Coastline & One Way Street too. And they definitely crank the volume up for Methamphetamine Blues for the big finish! I thought I'd be cool with saying hello, but when I gave him my stuff to sign I found I was a bit nervous, mumbled something about how the LA Clippers were going well & made an exit! He seemed really cool though. Attachments:

Thanks for the headsup...damn this thing is expensive. I assume it's just because there aren't many of them around, but I wonder why they would press so few?

I definitely prefer Lonely Light over this, but it's not THAT bad. I would take this over that song he did with Slash... Agreed - after reading the thread I was expecting a lot worse. Yes, it's 'poppy' & formulaic & I'm surprised if it's going to be anyone's new fave for very long. But there's only one voice in the world that could possibly save it...and it kinda did imo.

Still...I like it and I'm glad that I bought a copy. Life's short and it made me happy for a moment...however, most of these board members are grouches that like to be negative towards the things i like. Opinions are nice to have. I also like drugs, porn, foul language and all around bad behavior. Just saying... Haha, I also appreciate your collection obsession (what's up with the price of the Soulsavers' LP btw - the print run must have been very low?), but I think the "grouches" have expressed their logic against paying for boots pretty reasonably. making a profit behind artists back is different from doing no profit & being a fan, not a leech. This is the crux of the argument, and the reason why an artist, and anyone (label, promoter etc.) who helps make their music available to others, could be "grouches". why would you pay for bootlegs and threaten the very tapers who record these shows for fellow FANS benefit? A true fan does not support bootleggers who use other fans recordings and artwork for their own financial gain and in doing so risk a clamp down on tapers who simply enjoy listening to live recordings of their favorite artists. And this is the reason why the rest of the board members could be "grouches"! The sharing of boots for no profit is one of the great things about this board - we're all here for the music. As I say, I get the collection thing, but on balance in this case it is not worth risking the great free-share bootleg environment going on here. Especially if it only brings you happiness "for a moment"! Yes, I realise that one individual buying an overpriced vinyl boot (hopefully) won't result in a ban or sanction on taped material here, but it is about supply & demand - those who appreciate freely-shared digital boots shouldn't make up part of the demand of for-profit vinyl boots.
