I ordered my copy on the 29th Sunday, someone at Sunyata posted it on Monday and I received at my mailbox earlier today!!
Most likely helps that I'm an in-state recipient, but anyone who's pre-ordered this in the US should definitely keep an eye on their mailboxes this weekend or soon after!

Just listened to the first half and ..
"do I seem dark to you?"
(well)
*laughter*
listening to rest on my next break
**nothing much to report on the second half outside of an OK piano/synth instrumental playing out the song.
Those looking to add this to a Mark playlist could safely create an "edit" with the track ending cold at 3:52 / use a fade out to the 4:00 min mark

Interesting. Thanks for posting that. Quick listen - it sounds like an alt mix or and advance tape; less of a demo. I'll have to give it a detailed listen to see if there are any mix difference. I had another listen today and sounds like a combination of rough mixes and some completely different takes (e.g. Kingdoms of Rain). Would love to see more tapes like this surface in case anyone's hoarding any! Yeah if anyone is interested here are the specifics of this new demo: River Rise (alt lyrics / partial different vocal take) "The River Rise is a mile high Is this world drowned, is this world drowned" I've seen the river rise She's a mile high Kingdoms (alt lyrics / no Krista Auer backing vocals / fully different vocal take) "And every kingdom of rain should be coming down razorblades" Cos I loved you so long / so hard El Sol (fully different vocal take) **misses high note **longer fade out with more backing vocals Wheels* (rough mix) Riding the Nightingale* (No Krista vocals) Carnival No reprise of "girls are all sad in their eyes / hypnotized" verses Scatting of the "up and over the sea" lyric from the 1991 tape's version of the song over the final third Beggar's Blues* (rough mix) Pendulum* (rough mix) Shooting Gallery (alternate lyrics and fully different vocal take) intro: "When you're gone Long gone You have this song All I know" *= Instrumental takes closest to album version, nothing noticably different vocally

Yeah, that tracklist is pretty much what I remember from that eBay auction back then, nice to see it made it out in the world. Do any of the songs differ in vocals as radically as the '91 tape? Is "train song" Beggar's Blues? What is "sister ernestine's wedding" all about? thanks again in advance for any information mad Somehow the only WFTHG demo tape I had a download of was a different one that I can't remember when I acquired but may have been from earlier this year. Here's the info file for the flacs I have:

Yeah, that's me ^^
I didn't make the YT vid in question, but I was responsible for the spread of these demos originally (by sending them outside of my household to Deb)
Also, in the early oughts I remember someone having another set of Whiskey Demos up on eBay that I assumed were these, but the tracklist was different and included River Rise. I'm pretty sure onewhiskey members where vying to win them to then spread them to all fans and in the end the auction was ended by the "copyright holder"

Bad news Rimb (as you may already know):
<<The following products have been updated to status: Refunded
1 x IMAN KAKAI-LAZELL - 'DARK MARK' LANEGAN - CONFESSION OF THE NIGHT PORTER - LIMITED 206PP HARDBACK BOOK
Hey Christopher,
We’re just getting in touch as unfortunately we have some bad news regarding the ‘Dark Mark’ Lanegan book by Iman Kakai-Lazell that you’ve pre-ordered. We have been chasing up the delivery of the book as it was due to arrive at the end of October, and we’ve just heard back from the publisher with an update.
It seems that the book has encountered legal issues that are currently stopping it from being published and as there is no timeline for this being resolved, it looks like the book will not be arriving anytime soon. As we do not have any further information, we thought it was only fair to refund your order for now – if/when the books do arrive, we will be in touch with everyone who pre-ordered first to let you know so that you do not miss out.
We’ve processed a refund for your order, which should be back in your account in the next few days. I’m very sorry for any disappointment here, but I hope that’s okay. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
All the best, Oscar Mailorder Team>>
Ah well, maybe it will get released someday. I wonder which "legal issues" came up, seeing as Mark was involved prior to his death. I know it's available on the moochin' about Bandcamp page with an alternate cover / title, but I think I'll settle for the refund for now

I listened to the concert again. I find Mark Lanegan's voice particularly beautiful on this live. No wonder Johnny Cash was impressed. You have good taste, his voice has a supple, reedy character in the two performances from 1995, by 1998 his voice had changed significantly. Compare undertow (Especially the line “through the air I can’t breathe”) live from 95 to the various live versions from1998.. I shall be compiling a live compilation series of his entire career in the future. In 2020 I made a 1995-1998 live audience compilation from the best sources I have available. I have drafts for live compilations all the way from 1995-2020 but don’t have the time to make them all at the moment (especially the big tours). I may upload the 1995-1998 one if there is interest. raises hand

Daylight is golden, it is coming
I rolled my eyes at the start of the song as usual lyrically but by the end's repeating mantra (above) this one really touched me, in much the same place Resurrection Song & Borracho have before

I beg to differ, Death Drums is an instant classic & Xmas Eve was the first Christmas song told in POV of the serial killer I've come across, ace! Closest thing to a dud would be Christmas Song & Burn the Flames always makes my wife laugh at the cheesiness.

Didn't suck. Tho it sounds like it was recorded as 2 separated vocal takes, so it doesn't have that Gutter Twins organic feel

Just listened to the original song, unlike alot of songs Mark chooses to cover lately this one is very dense lyrically. I'm betting he won't be the lead, but adds backing vocals sorta like on Song for the Deaf but if I'm wrong that would be sweet. Also this is his first collab (other than Pete Krebs opening the 98 NW shows) with a Portland 90's scene musician, the great Sam Coomes of Quasi!! I found a feature on Hanford from last year that name drops this tribute & Lanegan www.kerrang.com/features/how-poison-ideas-steve-hanford-found-his-ultimate-inspiration-in-prison/

Another 1988 outtake upped by Gary today ... "Blackberry" youtu.be/HVZk5Fx9BYAfunny how GLC has all these pre Buzz Factory demos when everyone in the band is on record as saying the double album is "lost" riiiiiiight Wonder if Donna plays on this one, doesn't seem as solid as Van's bass lines [update saw on FB that this is indeed from the lost double album sessions with Donna on bass]

It's being reported today that Steven "Thee Slayer Hippy" Sanford has died. Hanford. heart attack is what i read. RIP Huh, I just read online that Thee Slayer Hippy produced the new Mondo Generator album... RIP indeed p.s. he also produced Heatmiser's first record back in '92, I'm an Elliott Smith fan too

Loads better than Somebody's Knocking, and perhaps his strongest flowing record throughout since Phantom Radio. Love love the Wes Eisold tracks, Dying Rover and for a change is really strong towards the end!
