I need to get on the computer at work to see, which won't happen until next week...I CAN'T WAIT! I just know I'm going to want to see this one over and over again.

It's terrific Lava. Shot in black and white and it looks like someone with a handheld camera follows Mark around. There are lots of good shots of people doing people things in a people way. Man, I'm tired. You'll see for yourself. You'll like it. Trust me.

Oooh sexy. I like it. Thanks jo! I just watched the video again and I don't know why "sexy" was my first impression of it. It's... kind of depressing actually. You know that feeling you're left with after people-watching all afternoon? Like, oh god, there are a lot of sad, weird, mean people out there. Still like the video though. It's fantastic.

Have to say I'm a tad underwhelmed. A few inanimate silhouettes of the band mixed with home video shots of random people in Germany doesn't quite make a great televisual experience (which probably explains why it isn't exactly being given tons of/any airtime over here)... Nice song though

I like the live shots. It kind of reminds me of what I would have seen in Seattle if ... Sorry, I'm still not over it!!

Beggars could have done a little better than that. I was so excited to see the video. What a let down. They might as well not bother doing one if that is all they can come up with.

I agree, looks a little cheap. but I still liked it, even though I watched it with real player and with that already everything looks like shit. but I like it. it's very lanegan I guess.

'Hit the City' and 'Sideways in Reverse' are very Lanegan-esque videos. I think his videos reflect his music perfectly. It would be too weird if he did high-quality music videos with babes everywhere and him all glammed out. His videos are rough around the edges and gritty. I love that feel. It's perfect. Maybe that's why my first reaction to 'Hit the City' was "sexy?"

They could've made it more gritty and a little more imaginative. It just didn't grab me at all. Of course videos aren't really important anymore, for real artists like Mark. Even if it was an awesome video, we here in the States would never see it.

ok im a bit slow with this (hey i have no tv at uni) but i've just seen the video on the nme chart thing...and it wasn't impressive..the live shots are good...they come across with feeling and seem somewhat interactive. but the rest of it's pretty shite...the song is too good for that vid (hey just my opinion) i liked the idea of the fag burning at the end..nice touch..but i'm sure it could've been shot better. prefered the 'Sideways in Reverse' vid. overall i dont think it's very well edited...just seems like a bit of a 'bosh-up' job. dont see no edges to it either..it would be great if it was rough around the edges and a little gritty...it just looks flat.... low budget?i think so.

..........I think it opens with Real Media player, if it's any consolation, I can't see either or the videos because our resident 'technical expert' forgot to include it when he was getting funky with his hardware/software/stuff

UK types with Sky will be happy to note that this vid now has fairly heavy rotation of Skuzz, and MTV2 UK finally realised that they had it this week and have started playing it also - it was their "Hot New One" this monday, only 1 month after it was released and 2 weeks after the tour finished. Finger on the pulse as usual...

The video's a bit of a curate's egg for me... I can see what the makers were trying to do - the single artwork and design was kind of a throwback to The Winding Sheet, so to do something akin to Ugly Sunday's vid seems like an obvious choice. But where US captures the whole "wandering home at 5am in the rain after one of those evenings" feeling quite nicely (or at least it looks like most of teh times when I've wandered home at 5am etc). But where those images worked for the downbeat Ugly Sunday, they don't quite work as well with Hit the City - the tone of the lyrics suggests a debauched night out in order to forget the bad stuff for at least a while. And a quick wander round the streets, a go on the fruity, followed by a swift game of pool and a ciggy before bedtime doesn't quite bring that across
