MTV.com is reporting that John Garcia, singer of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE frontman Josh Homme's previous troupe KYUSS, joined QOTSA on stage for three songs from their influential hard-rock band's catalog as part of an encore that capped an already surprise-filled night on Tuesday (Dec. 21) at the Wiltern LG in Los Angeles. "Now I want to play you something really old," Homme announced after returning to the stage following the main-set closer, "A Song for the Dead". With guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, bassist Alain Johannes, keyboardist Natasha Shneider and drummer Joey Castillo doing their best to keep up, Homme and Garcia ripped into "Thumb", off their 1992 desert-rock masterpiece "Blues for the Red Sun"; "Hurricane", from their '95 swan song "And the Circus Leaves Town"; and the slow-jam fan favorite "Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop". Homme was all smiles as he dug into the forgotten low-end riffs — most of which he wrote in his teens — and the acerbic Garcia was on his best behavior, turning his back to the crowd at junctures where he'd usually give them the finger. just find me in the corner crying

Red Hot Chili Peppers confirm final album details 'Stadium Arcadium' is out on May 8 Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced the final details surrounding the release of their new double album. 'Stadium Arcadium' will hit the shops on May 8 as the successor to 2002's 'By The Way'. Originally conceived as a 38-song trilogy, 'Stadium Arcadium' will be a 24-track double LP with titles including the first single 'Dani California', which will precede the album. Other songs set to feature are 'Snow', 'Animal Bar', 'Wet Sand', 'Charlie', 'Desecration Smile' and 'Hard To Concentrate'. Speaking to NME.COM about the title of the release, singer Anthony Kiedis said: "'Stadium Arcadium', in the end it has a very dreamlike feeling of we on Earth reflecting the cosmos on the heavens, and we on Earth reflecting it because that's where our inspiration comes from. It's more romance of sound or whatever retarded passions exist in your soul. It's kind of a romantic affair." The LP also marks the first time the band have managed three consecutive records with the same line-up, following the return of guitarist John Frusciante to the fold for 1999's 'Californication'. However, Kiedis refuted the suggestion that this means the band had fully conquered their demons. "It feels great, and I hope it stays that way, but I wouldn't say our troubles are all over. In some ways it's good to hold on to a few of your demons... I don't think our troubles are completely over. We're a bit bent in the head and I think that serves us well." Red Hot Chili Peppers entered the studio last March with producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, System Of A Down) to start work on 'Stadium Arcadium' and having played three shows at London's Hyde Park eighteen months ago to a total of 300,000 people, the band plan to return to the UK for a tour later this year.

ARMY OF ANYONE, the new band featuring FILTER's Richard Patrick (vocals), former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS members Dean (guitar) and his brother Robert DeLeo (bass), and ex-DAVID LEE ROTH drummer Ray Luzier, are currently mixing their debut album with Andy Wallace (NIRVANA, WHITE ZOMBIE, SLAYER, KORN, DISTURBED, LIMP BIZKIT) for a late spring release via Columbia Records. The as-yet-untitled CD was produced by Bob Ezrin, the mastermind behind PINK FLOYD's "The Wall" and ALICE COOPER's early hits.
Patrick had previously stated about the new group: "I hope that fans of both FILTER and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will be as ecstatic about the music as I am. Although it is not the album you were expecting from me, I’m confident that you’ll be very pleased with the result. FILTER will always be close to my heart, but ARMY OF ANYONE is my priority right now."

VOIVOD frontman Denis "Snake" Belanger has started laying down tracks for the group's much-anticipated new album with producer Glen Robinson (VOIVOD's "Nothingface", TEA PARTY, GWAR) at Multisons studio in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The singer has posted his sixth entry on the band's blog about the studio work that includes studio updates, tidbits and photos:
"This is it... it's done. Now I just have to listen to the whole thing. I might add a few things here and there. I spent my time doing it, not having time to listen to it with clear head, clean ears, with an objective point of view. Yeah I'm glad it's done. It's a relief. I’ve been holding it for so long. As I was packing my stuff tonight I couldn't believe that we were already entering in another process. ...Mixing.
"Thanks to Glen.... Amazing job!
"Thanks to Piggy...You're GOD!"
The follow-up to 2003's "Voivod" is the first album in the band's 20-plus-year career that will not feature founding guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour working alongside his bandmembers in the studio. D'Amour died August 26, 2005 in a Montreal hospital from complications of advanced colon cancer.
In order to record the album, Michael "Away" Langevin, Belanger and bassist Jason "Jasonic" Newsted are utilizing all of the guitar parts that Piggy had recorded for the record on his laptop with ProTools before his death.
VOIVOD's as-yet-untitled new album should surface sometime later this year on The End Records in North America.

Built to Spill Return With New Album in April Matt Amis reports: The five-year void since their last album, Ancient Melodies of the Future, has left Doug Martsch and Built to Spill retooled, refreshed, and, uh, rebuilt. Check out their excellent new song, "Goin' Against Your Mind", currently streaming on the BTS MySpace page, and raise your eyeglasses in jubilation. Fellow nerds, Built to Spill is back.
After an excruciatingly long wait, details have finally emerged regarding the band's new album, You in Reverse. Due April 11 on Warner Bros. (can't believe they haven't been dropped!), the record was self-produced by the band, and made without the input of longtime producer Phil Ek.
In an interview with Billboard last year, Martsch said, "We just wanted to try something new to spark us to do something different." The result, evidently, is the most collaborative expression in the band's fourteen-year history.
Says the band's MySpace page, "To a large extent, each musician wrote his own parts. Half of the finished material incorporates segments the band wrote together during jam sessions...Rather than Doug's former reliance on extensive overdubs, the group tried to capture loose and live moments, letting each individual musician's talents be more accurately represented. Instead of a broad, atmospheric sweep, this record sounds natural. It resonates with relationships, the way the band as a whole responds to music and to each other."
On You in Reverse (which, now that we think of it, is "ouY"), BTS return with the core lineup of Martsch, bassist Brett Nelson, and drummer Scott Plouf augmented by touring guitarist Jim Roth, formerly of the Delusions, and frequent contributor Brett Netson (not to be confused with Brett Nelson). Quasi's Sam Coomes also puts in some keyboard work on the album.
Perfect from now on:
01 Goin' Against Your Mind 02 Traces 03 Liar 04 Saturday 05 Wherever You Go 06 Conventional Wisdom 07 Gone 08 Mess With Time 09 Just a Habit 10 The Wait
As of right now, the only shows Built to Spill have scheduled are a pair of dates at Chicago's Metro on April 14 and 15. But we assume an album-supporting tour will be announced soon.

REBEL MEETS REBEL, the project featuring three of the founding members of PANTERA (Vinnie Paul, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and bassist Rex Brown) together with legendary country singer/outlaw David Allan Coe, have launched their official web site at www.rebelmeetsrebel.com. Described as a unique crossover of country, metal and rock, REBEL MEETS REBEL's self-titled CD was recorded and mixed over a four-year period (1999-2003) at Chasin Jason studios in Dalworthington Gardens, Texas and is set to contain a total of 12 tracks, including "Nothin' To Lose", "No Compromise", "Rebel Meets Rebel", "Cowboys", "Panfilo", "Heartworn Highway", "One Night Stand", "Arizona Rivers", "A Man With Nothin' Ain't Got Nothin' to Lose", "New York City Streets" and "Get Outta My Life". Audio samples of five songs are currently available on the site. "Rebel Meets Rebel" will be the first release through Vinnie Paul's Big Vin Records, which has secured a distribution deal via Fontana. An April 4 release is expected. Commented Vinnie Paul: "Dime loved this record!!! David, Rex and I are fulfilling his dreams and adding to his incredible legacy by bringing the music we made together to you. It's not metal and it's not country. It's just a get-together of country metal minds!!! Pure hell-raisin', boozin', jammin' fun!!!!" Added Rex: "Strange enough, this classic work was made out of Dime's love of everything from a country legend to what we did best — tear-ya-face-off metal!!! Sit back, enjoy and listen to two rebels meetin' up face to face in one great shootout!!! Dime forever!!!" David Allan Coe stated: "REBEL MEETS REBEL is and was the first collaboration of the fusion of different musical genres of such extreme measures. It's a shame it took so long to be released and in the meantime other people get credit for doing what we did first! But we know! GARTH BROOKS and METALLICA gets credit for it. But we are the 'REAL DEAL' as they say. We are 'The Outlaws From Hell'. That's for real....In memory of Dimebag — I LOVE YOU." According to Vinnie, a possibility exists that a touring version of REBEL MEETS REBEL will hit the road this summer. Fans are invited to cast a vote on the site to make the tour a reality. As previously reported, the second project to be released via Big Vin will be a DVD, "Dimevision", as a tribute to Dimebag, one of metal's all-time guitar greats who is credited by some for creating the original concept which eventually became the MTV hit series "Jackass". "Dimevision" features Dime's stellar guitar playing and offbeat brand of humor, and is sure to be a title every serious PANTERA fan will have to own.

Greg Prato of Billboard.com is reporting that the MELVINS have been expanded to a quartet after having been joined by Hydra Head recording artists BIG BUSINESS.
"Now we're going to be a four-piece," drummer Dale Crover tells Billboard.com. "Two drums — just like the ALLMAN BROTHERS and the GRATEFUL DEAD! We've known [the BIG BUSINESS] guys for a long time. It's not like they're going to quit BIG BUSINESS or anything like that. When we tour, we're hoping that they'll open."
Crover sees no problem sharing the time-keeping with drummer Coady Willis. "It's great," he says. "He's left handed, so we want to do this 'mirror image' type of thing. We've kind of fused our two drum sets together, and we're going to try and do some crazy thing with it. We're sharing these big toms in between us."
The new lineup plans to tour at some point later this year and eventually hit the studio. But the next MELVINS release will be a live CD comprised of a recent performance of the 1993 album "Houdini".
