There are concerns over Rijkaard's health, and after his falling-out with Henk Ten Cate, Barca's form dipped alarmingly. That Henk is now at Chelsea is another stumbling-block. Guus Hiddink remains favourite, but I can't see that bringing any success - he's made average (and below) sides into not bad teams, but it's a whole different job at Chelsea. Then again, he may not be in much of a position to bargain if he's offered the job, as his wages as Russia's head coach are mostly paid for by Abramovich himself. Turn one job down, and he could lose the other. Mancini's another choice - he's successful, and his own job is under fire. He took Inter to 3 successive league victories (albeit one of them by default) and it still looks as though he's going to get sacked. Downside to his appointment is that domestic Italian Football is currently so bad that it's unlikely that he can bring the quality and flair that would be demanded of him. Of the other main contenders, Hughes is comfortable where he is (and probably waiting for Ferguson to retire) and Sven has seemingly already had enough with working for interfering (and, in the case of Shinawatra, literal) despots. Any manager who goes there is always going to be third in the decision-making pecking order, and that's if he's lucky. Abramovich and Peter Kenyon interfere far too much in the player-buying (and, if rumours are true, team selection) process, and with Ten Cate there basically as a tactician, a manager at Chelsea is basically just someone who takes the rap when it goes wrong. Speaking of Kenyon, has anyone given a valid reason as to why he was up with the team last week collecting a medal, when he's neither playing nor coaching staff? On the Chelsea toy thing, Abramovich bought them because Arsenal turned him down and Ken Bates let him have it for a song after he'd run it into the ground

well.. you've got one of the best goalkeepers in the English Premier League.. he used to play for Man United, and he has Tourette's Syndrome, which is obviously ideal in a sportsman! that alone makes him brilliant in my book.
erm... Landon Donovan? plays for LA Galaxy...
Carlos Bocanegra plays/played for Fulham, who just missed out on relegation this year..
erm... there are a couple of others.

bear in mind that England failed to qualify for the European Championships this year... we're in disarray at the moment, but rebuilding with a new coach (who cant speak English).

well, in real terms, on paper... we SHOULD beat you.. but that is underestimating the ability of English players to fuck up pretty much anything.. and with it being a 'friendly', im sure we'll be trying out a few new players. basically, i wouldnt be surprised if it was a disappointing 1-1 draw. that guy in your pic is Alexi Lalas.. he's currently the President and General Manager of LA Galaxy.. he looks rather more sensible these days... may i suggest something like this for your haircut..?

We call it Lacrosse. It is really popular on the East Coast. Not so much anywhere else. I went to a Major League Lacrosse playoff game that was incredibly boring.

Well, they're doing the national anthems at the mo for England vs the US. Why do lady singers insist on adding thousands of additional notes when they sing the US anthem at sporting occasions? Sounds like she's going over speedbumps.
We can't talk though - Commonwealth Games aside, all English sporting doohickeys are accompanied by the wrong anthem.

Sounds like she's going over speedbumps. Because every singer has to make our national anthem "their own" nevermind the 200 years the song has been around. It's not good enough. They need to have some Johnny Come-Lately Flavor of the Month come and crap all over it.

This remains the best football intro ever (1994 World Cup Finals). She was introduced as "Miss Diana Ross", which she seems to have taken as an instruction. Still, at least it didn't cost her the European Cup or get her manager sacked or anything ;D

England 2, USA 0
we probably could've got a few more.
shit game, but England are never worth watching in friendly games.
commentators, re: the USA team- "completely outclassed" and "ordinary at best."
still, im sure the US citizens among you can content yourselves with the fact that this means nothing to you.
