Why not open up an opinions/ rants subforum, sort of a "say whatever you want" area that will hopefully clean up all the needless ire in other subforums? I would hate to see this forum go, as I've been kicking around looking at it for years now and it is a valuable resource in many ways. People should be able to express themselves freely, but it seems like there has been a lot of namecalling and non-constructive criticism in inappropriate channels lately. This may be a way to remedy the current situation without doing away with the forum forever.
May I also suggest that some sort of web form be set up for submissions to the onewhiskey.com website itself? This would simplify the submission process a little bit but would also make approving and actually putting them on the website much, much easier.

I love the Lebowski quote by the way. I say that all the time... despite the fact that I'm rarely calmer than anyone. Thanks. It is one of my favorites.

How very constructive. We are trying to sort this thing out. The less namecalling the better. That is one of the things we are fed up with.
You mentioned your own board on page one. It is easier for people to see if it could be of any interest to them if you at least say something about it rather than just posting the link. I for one would never just join a board without knowing what it is.

Well, I thought I was upset today when I went on the internet and I couldn't cash my vinyl downloads coupon for Soulsavers because 'this promotion isn't available in Canada' which is bullshit but now the only forum I've ever belonged to (aside from the short-lived official one) is being imploded? Oh well, I sure as fuck wouldn't have put up with the shit (and work) that raeni, Foz, gr0undzer0 & Lungsey have put up with soo, thanks for putting up with us! Thanks to everyone else I've encountered over the years, you're all awesome, even the one's I'm not particularly fond of.
I hope this becomes (or one pops up) a sufficient graveyard of the forums past where we can still do some lurking. Where else am I going to hear about all the Lanegan related stuff constantly coming up? Like I would have ever heard of Creature with the Atom Brain without this place. And all the cool and stupid and completely random shit posted that's tickled my fancy over the years! And all the mix cd's with all the gems I've received from members of this board! I'll tell you, theres been some fine gems. Hell, I would have never started listening to (worshiping) Nick Cave if it wasn't for his name being posted over and over again here.
It's been fun people, I'll lurk around here as long as I can and if anyone wants to try and get one last mix-cd trade in, in case this board becomes dissolved, shoot me a pm. I enjoy sending and receiving every time. Also, twenty of you probably still owe me cd's anyway.
I hate to agree with Stephanie, just kidding, seriously (I found the Praying Ground cover a bit uninspired myself, probably not the best place to mention it), but I also love the fact that for the most part we're all "crazy motherfuckers" and I love the fact I found somewhere on the interwebs to come back to time and time again to see not only what's going on in the busy world of Lanegan but all the crazy motherfucking shit you cray motherfuckers have been up to! Oh, and be a crazy motherfucker myself! We are an odd bunch, we should try and stick to the same tubes if we can. An 'Opinion/Rant' section might not be a bad idea, easily avoidable for anyone wanting to avoid drama. A reviews section might be useful too. Attach a disclaimer saying that any reviews posted in that section are fair game to be archived at onewhiskey. Also, a "No boobies" disclaimer may come in handy one day.
Keep in mind people, Mark's going to die one day. And I'm going to cry and cry and cry like I've never cried before and I think it would be a damn shame if I wasn't part of a basket of nuts to grieve with. Can't we all just get along?

Seriously now, I have had nothing to do for the last 24 hours ;D... I guess we're not going to find out the results of the onewhiskey turns 5 polls lol
Like alot have mentioned, this site and forum are on my daily website rotation, I probably visited 5x a day. Been a Lanegan devotee since 93 and appreciated any and all info I got from here.
anyway, for all who care, I found this on Last.fm and copied it from Foz about the Manchester Soulsavers gig:
"I had the setlist on my phone, and deleted it instead of sending it. I was rather drunk. Plenty from Broken (Unbalanced Pieces, Death Bells, You Will Miss Me, Some Misunderstanding, Rolling Sky, *I think* By My Side, Shadows Fall), some from It's... (Paper Money, Ghosts of You & Me, Kingdoms of Rain), 1 cover (ZZ Top's Jesus Just Left Chicago), Revival as encore. "

Hello all- Don't fret! You can still get all your bits and pieces type news, links to Youtube and photos and downloads (soon, I promise) without registration at www.marklanegan.net/blog . Under construction visually but I'm trying to get the content rolling, as there is stuff going on worth posting about. Ta!

lanegan.proboards.com/i set this up just as a test, i was bored at work. i really don't have a lot of time to mod it or probably even contribute much (i've been lurking around here for quite some time without posting). if anyone wants to use it as a temporary or permanent home feel free, and we can expand it or modify the board if there is a demand for it. i know the community here is pretty small (1300 registered users but, realistically there were no more than 40 responders to ANY of foz's 5th anniversary polls), so it would be nice if the community was kept intact as much as possible...so if there is another board that most people are going to, please, just go there and ignore the link i have posted.

Marc, I read all of your post and sympathize with much of it. Well said. Though I'm not the type who would bend over backwards trying to prove how normal I was even if I was normal ;D And barriers, great post! LOL!! Thanks for that ;D As for new places for folks to check out, I HIGHLY recommend Scott Ford's forum. The discussion there is fucking excellent and already very Lanegan-centric as many Dulli and Lanegan fans already congregate there. There's an awesome bootleg trading section (no official releases) featuring metric shittons of Dulli and Lanegan recordings as well as everything else from Pink Floyd to the Black Crowes. Scott also features a lot of exclusive Lanegan and Dulli info and tracks on his station; he recently had an all-Lanegan day and also had a listening party for Broken. He also posts live Tweets from Twilight Singers recording sessions. I hesitated joining his forum at first because I didn't want to join a person's forum if I wasn't that familiar with the person but I can tell you Scott is an absolutely fascinating and lovely person in his own right who is very welcoming of Mark and Greg fans into his virtual arena. Scott is currently going through some heavy shit but I hope he returns to doing his radio shows before too long because they're hilarious and illuminating. I definitely feel like my connection with that place isn't just because of the Lanegan/Dulli connection but also because I've become a fan of Scott as a blogger, writer, radio personality and person in general. And the atmosphere there is open and friendly, people talk pretty freely and amiably sharing positive and negative opinions alike. There's enough moderation to maintain basic etiquette about not posting official recordings or engaging in slanderous gossip, etc. but not so much it lends itself to paranoia. Come join us, someone needs to post there besides just me and Renee ;D Scott Ford's blog: fordradio.blogspot.com/Scott Ford's forum: fordradio.proboards99.com/Scott Ford's Twitter: twitter.com/fordradio

Althought i think you've mentioned your board enough now, i agree with the main part of what you're saying. So here is my 2 cents:
First off someone mentioned separating this forum from OneWhiskey.com - i think this could solve some problems for Raeni. This suggestion, as well as others are being looked into. For regulars and newbies that are feeling this forum is now slipping away from them: don't be too quick to leave. We need your input. Give us time to sort things out.
If i had my wish on the future of this board i would have this board looking more or less the same lay-out wise, with the same moderators and the same mix of regulars and new visitors, lurkers and one time-posters after new releases etc spark off short lived memberships. I would love to see there is place for debate and discussion and yes i would like to see different opinions on stuff Mark Lanegan's done but i would like it to be respectful enough to not get to the schoolyard-level of namecalling. I have before and will again say that i too was disrespectful of Isobel Campbell, but when i noticed it was getting the administrator of this board into some trouble, i had learned my lesson.
What i would not want to see back on this board is the attention seeking drama queens that in all honesty i believe we have a few of. People that have personal problems should either restrain from posting if they know (or can guess) it will turn them into nasty personalities during the time of their relapse. Take a time-out or cut your losses. Be respectful to this board as it is a place others find friendship and enjoyment in, even if you don't. Personal bickering? Take it to PM. I have done so in the past and, as a moderator, will PM members to ask them to refrain from hurtfull posts or needless negativity thrown about the place. Also i have PMed several people to tell them to back off when attacking other members. Things like these get done, they just don't get done out in the open. You don't seriously think members like charles webster baer keep disappearing just like that, do you?
I would have loved to be able to have a download section, as it is wonderful that this place gives people stuff they have been looking for and i think foz has done an extremely good job at cleaning it up and keeping it acceptable. But i also feel that if the download section carries on to be some sort of accident waiting to happen because people cannot refrain from posting links to official stuff, then it should be over and done with. Anyone is welcome to start their own download board. There's not an awful lot of people that know this, but these past weeks before the release of Broken, we have been watching this place like fucking hawks to try and prevent links being put up. Deleting posts and banning members is no fun and does not put a twinkle in our mod-eyes.
I realise my post might trigger people to get defensive. There's people i have had enough PMing with and we are all done talking. Then there's people that might feel hurt or misunderstood etc, i strongly suggest you PM me instead of replying on this thread. This is my idea about the future of this board, it is not an attempt to get mud flinging.

At this point, I think Mr Lanegan, regarding his whole solo carreer, past work with the Screaming Trees and the Seattle era shit, and all his successfully collabs that have led to an increase of his fan base (like it or not), deserves his OWN board. I'm a member of SFR too but I don't think this is the right place if I'd like to talk about the lyrics of Whiskey For the Holy Ghost, beg for a Skeleteal History tab, even bitching about what gunfighting music is. The right and only place has to be onewhiskey.proboards.com. For the reasons we all now know and I understand, it can't be anymore. And I totally agree with Lungsey and some others that we just have to split it from the main site, change its name (twowhiskey) and move the archive we have here to the new place (if it's technically possible). No way we can sit like that on 5 years of discussion here

This revamp sparked some really interesting conversations which have never been discussed before: the onewhiskey forum. It's been great to read what it's meant to people who've been here from the start or who joined in later. I agree that this place is a wonderful community of nutjobs, yes even you Mokkers, some very creative, funny and cool nutjobs who make this place worth visiting everyday. I'll gladly admit that I'm mostly an All The Rest visiting member. My English isn't good enough to describe how much Mark's music means to me, and it's such a huge part of who I am that I probably wouldn't be able to do it in Dutch either. I'm not a poet, I leave the profound wisdom to Mark's lyrics and music. I also agree with the fact that since the board's other threads were locked, I've been bored as hell! I love this place. And as Mokkly stated earlier, to me it's a cool place to hang out when bored. I'm not a reviewer for a music magazine, I just like to find out what everyone's been up to and learn about cool stuff (albeit music, movies, art or funny links) that preoccupies the other members here. The past 5 years were great, (and if you remember the old forum, that was just insanely funny shit..) and I'm glad to read that other people agree.

I've been a bit off raday lately so I'm not entirely sure whats going on. Just wanted to state how gutted I'd be if we lost this place, the positives on here far outweigh any negatives. I don't get what's wrong with some people? Anyways, hopefully this can all be resolved in some way? I gotta shoot cause i'm at work and not supposed to be on here I'll try and make more sentences later

this might not be the right place for this, but there is nowhere else to post it. forgive me if im wrong, and i may well be.. but can someone just confirm this sequence of events-
1. katey uses a not-particularly-controversial-or-inflammatory thread to repeatedly harass a very hardworking mod (again. she has a history of berating the admin staff on this forum, and has made her displeasure at the running of this forum very clear on numerous occasions). meanwhile, she is using a far less prominent thread to sneer at the new soulsavers album and the contribution made by certain participants on the album.
2. katey suggests that she will start a new web resource for Mark Lanegan fans because of all this, err, fuss.
3. onewhiskey forum disappears due, seemingly wholly, to the thread where katey (and possibly one or two other people out of about 1000) kicked up the aforementioned fuss.
4. katey creates a new website in very quick time and advertises it here with a great big smile.
so, err... who benefits from all of this..?
(i am quite happy for this post to be removed if it is thought to be inappropriate for this thread. i have already made a fairly substantial post on page 2 or 3. as ive said before, i think any serious drama about an internet forum is very silly).
