OK, so here's mine: for years I've been singing "from the one tiny sting/to that vacant flame"... and I've been thinking: "wow, incredible: that's such a great image!" Then, all of a sudden, I discover that the correct lyric seems to be "vacant fame"... so... well... mmmh, fail LOL But I like the way "vacant flame" sounds too much. So I used that as my nickname

i noticed there was references to oceans in a lot of songs, and how many words rhymed with ocean (ie. commotion), so after being ocean, i was commotion for a bit, then i realized if you spoke commotion slowly, it sounded somewhat like "calm ocean" which I am now. I was done being a commotion and ready to be a calm ocean. Dig?

Yes, I liked that. And I like the idea of a calm ocean.

I just took two Lanegan album titles and merged them. Fields at Midnight is actually my second incarnation.
I was first "The Winding Ghost"

New and weirder. Put together One Way Street and my love for the Metal Gear videogames, a fixation I've gone back to recently.

I will always think of you as "Fields" because of our mutual appreciation of MLB.

barriers is just the Screaming Trees song I had in my head when I signed up for the marklanegan.com forum, like, 8 years ago. I was not expecting to still be here or else I would have picked a better name. Though I've grown accustomed to it and use it in other fourms.

Once upon a time, in a far away and very strange land, there lived a crooked-nosed witch, Grumpella, who was known throughout the kingdom as The Bitchy Witch of the Pacific Northwest.
Or at least the story, had it ever been written, would have started something like that. I was going to write it, a coworker who played the cello was going to provide music, and another coworker who could draw and paint was going to illustrate it. Alas, we never got round to it, just like we never got round to producing our own Crack Whore magazine (South Park was still fairly new, that's how long ago this was). It did, however, become a nickname of sorts.

DAVE GROHL, is that you?? ;D ;D ;D I was actually hoping to find out what "grangerlang" means. Absolutely bumsquat. ;D I wanted something neutral. It was literally the product of me looking around my dorm room (LO, these many years ago!), and trying to mash together different things I saw. The result is half Hermione Granger, half Jonny Lang!

Haha! Thanks for explaining. But I now realise I've been pronouncing it wrongly this whole time though....(with a hard g in the middle)....I'll amend that in my head.

PJ Harvey led me to find Mark's fantastic music in the first place (with Bubblegum obviously) so that's why I took my nickname off one her songs. Plus I'm a huge fan of hers too..
