You don't think it would have been more conducive and interesting if we asked more interesting and pertinenent questions post-Blues Funeral, as opposed to being asked to supply questions about an album two weeks before it was releasead? Sure, but what's the point in whining? And who cares how "we look" that it came out after the release - there's a lot of people who would have liked the opportunity to ask - there's a lot who did ask things that didn't get answered. If this came out before the release, would it still be wasted? It would have been way cooler if we'd been allowed to listen to the album before anyone else, then asked the questions in person so we could be on the video too, right? Sorry, I just don't get why everything has to be turned into a wah-wah fest. We did as we were asked, it was fun and it was nice that it got done. I like that people feel free to express their opinions on here, but keep in mind that absolutely NOTHING had to be done. So if people go out of their way to do something nice, why dump on it that it wasn't as nice as you wished it had been?

Gift horse and all that. What a pity you can't just be happy this was done. Yeah it would have been cool to know more about the album when submitting questions or to have had the interview pre release, but this was still a great little extra most fans do not get. I think it was fun to do, nice anticipation and a lovely surprise. Plus the man looks like he enjoyed doing this, so i say it's a win-win situation. I couldn't agree more, Lungsey. Just think back to 2004.. and be cool, y'all.

"I got a skateboard for Christmas. But I wanted a bike...Wah Wah Boo Hoo."
Well done Raeni. The entire thing was an incredible gift by Mark to his fans. And as I've said before, I'm sure he read each and every question and got quite a laugh out of many of them.

I'm glad to see that the q&a was released. I was really hoping to hear barriers question answered as it would seem less creepy via video, than asking Mark in person [which also goes to the nature of the question]
It was adorable seeing them try to keep a straight face. Mark is very kind to his fans.
I wish he didnt dislike his 80's releases.

It was adorable seeing them try to keep a straight face. Mark is very kind to his fans. It is impossible to watch and not smile. ;D I am so thankful for this!! I have been thinking about my own 80s radio memories. Gonna work out to Ode to Sad Disco soon. ;D

Calm down kids. I'm not whining. I said it was fun. I enjoyed watching it. All I said was that it could have been a lot more interesting if we'd had he chance to listen to the album beforehand.

I just find it a bit frustrating to see you say it was a "completely wasted opportunity". There's a lot of effort that went into this thing.

this is great! i didn't hear any of my questions, that still leads me to believe he doesn't realize canada exists! I love the way that the interviewer asked username2500's question and mark's responses to all the questions were great. The prostate exam comparison, the ridiculously long hair from the eighties...And i love how he ends it with "thanks to the guys who will be fighting to stay awake while watching this."

He didn't answer my questions, but it was cool to watch this video anyway. Looks like he had some fun too. Thanks to all those who were involved!

Kudos and much love to everyone involved!
I'm very happy we got this opportunity and this gift, nevermind the timing, etc. We don't live in a perfect world, I've gotten over that. We do however have a really awesome person who took time out of his day to do something just for his crazy, rabid fans (us), which is super cool in my book.

I really enjoyed it. I don't remotely see how this was a missed opportunity and if I were him I'm not sure if I could be bothered about dealing with a lot of post event in depth analysis. He is completely wrong about the 80s hair. Best hair is Fuji 2002 Walking on Sidewalks but 80s long hair a damn close second.

Thank you to everyone involved in this. I really enjoyed listening to Mark's responses - what a lovely guy he is to take the time to put this video together! Have to disagree with him about the 80s hair though - I loved it ...

It's a fact of life that hair styles, fashions, etc. always look somewhat cringe worthy in retrospect. Trust me, 25 years from now, people will be looking back at today's hair styles, tattoos, etc. and they'll be going "What the fuck were we thinking?"

Trust me, 25 years from now, people will be looking back at today's hair styles, tattoos, etc. and they'll be going "What the fuck were we thinking?" Believe me, I'm old enough to know the truth in that statement. That said, however, I'd like to say that prior to my total obsession with Mark Lanegan, I was against any and all tattoos and shuddered at the very idea that a loved one would have his/her skin violated in that manner. When I first saw Mark's tattoos, I thought, oooooh, what the hell?! Now - I look at my waitress's tattoos with a different outlook - I ask what they are and what they mean to her - I no longer abhor the sight of colored skin and take pleasure in the beauty of artfully applied tattoos. As for the hair - I'm a child of the 60s, so I love long hair on both men and women. Mark is perfect as he is. Long hair, short hair, tattoos, no tattoos. As long as that voice is there . . . . . .

I find guys with long hair VERY amusing. There are the kind who never wash it- they shower but never use shampoo- and then there are some that buy fancier shampoo than I do. Either way, guys seem blessed with 'better' hair than women? We chicks are always fighting with our hair, trying to make it something it's not (straighter or curlier? body, or defrizz?), I guess guys with long hair just have had the 'hey I have awesome hair, lets roll with this" revelation and that's that. That being said, Mark, dude, do not be negative about your 80s hair, you were really cute and totally shaggable. Not that you're not still....

The guy reading the questions cracked me up and so did some of Mark's deadpan answers. His trying to figure out if listening to his album could be traumatizing was funny to me, even though the question to which he was responding was not humorous. And I'll try not to read too much into his afterthought about a prostate exam having some partially enjoyable element to it... ;D
I am a bit disappointed, but not that surprised, that they picked 'softball' questions over the ones I would have found more interesting to see answered. It seems that most of the press coverage of musicians I like these days is vanity press, or "fluff," rather than journalism of any sort of investigative or revelatory nature. Of course any attempt I've seen by interviewers in the past to forge into less comfortable territory with Mark has not gone well...

awesome! thanks to everyone behind onewhiskey to make this possible. thanks to 4ad. thanks to mark for the time and the cool answers! I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking that it was Mark himself who set this all up. His manager contacted me and asked if the forum members would be interested in doing it. I don't think he'd have asked us if Mark didn't want it - so I believe that this was Mark's way of thanking the forum members. All I did was send in the questions.
