A double thanks to you, silence! It arrived today! Anyone any advice on how to not let this album take over my entire waking life? Also, was 33 definitely 2006? If Jeff is 36 this coming November, and 33 was released on his 33rd birthday (which is what I've read), then that would point to a 2009 release. Unless my maths is truly abominable (which it can be, on occasion), or the internet is lying to me about everything.
I'll have to maybe put all of these posts into one giant discography post, including the Sweet Chariot EP and Under Asphalt, should you come by the tracklisting at some stage. I have no idea what I will do with that list, I guess I just have to see this thing out now that I've started it.

Oops, 2009 (just checked his myspace post from when it was released). Ah well, right number, just the wrong way up

Thanks for that video, silence!! And Trench - "Preachers" has taken over not only my entire waking life, but also nighttime too, thanks to my earbuds - it has a way of hypnotizing you, doesn't it?! And I'm totally loving the early Jeff Klein stuff I'm finding, thanks to you guys! doomed

If only the entire gig somehow became available, it would be awesome. Four songs is good enough, though: More here: www.youtube.com/user/TheGoodMusicClubAnd I just had to post this, because it's lovely:

And, in fact, the album is so amazing that I actually sat down and wrote a (ta-da!) review of it for Amazon - my first ever, so forgive me if you read it - but I had to get it out of my system - the album deserves praise, and there was only one review prior to mine. I'm quite sure there will be more. doomed

He's great, isn't he? It's a big regret of mine that I only caught the tail-end of one of his support shows. At the time I'd heard of him and had checked out a few songs, but they didn't really do anything for me. But just seeing him work and hearing him live made me think, "What the fuck? This is that guy I didn't really like? Fuck that!" The rest is history. I just wish I'd paid more attention beyond his 'regular' output. I hate missing out on stuff, haha. Here's a couple more videos. I've seen this live version of Under Your Skin on Youtube, but I've never seen the second song; a cover version of It's A Wonderful Lie by Paul Westerberg, until now: onderinvloed.com/home/2010/07/jay-nash-joey-ryan-jeff-klein/

The album is fantastic.

Isn't it? I've been going back over the earlier versions of some of the songs Jeff did, and it's so great to hear the evolution of the songs to what they are now - just can't get enough of this album!

I'm in the U.S. - I'll see if I can get them later - meanwhile, here's a great review: www.spacecityrock.com/2012/10/25/my-jerusalem-preachers/Here's the beginning - hell, here's the whole thing: More than anything else, it was singer/guitarist Jeff Klein’s voice that first sucked me into Preachers, the new full-length from Austin band My Jerusalem. The guy rumbles and moans like he’s stolen and swallowed up all the best parts of those deep-voiced singers I like so damn much — he’s equal parts Eric Bachmann, Johnny Cash, and Nick Cave, and yet inside him somehow it all comes out different, unique. Klein’s vocals are dark and murky and soulful, at times tinged with a country-boy twang (“Death Valley”) and at others sounding like a disaffected folksinger more than anything else (“Chameleon”), and yeah, they’re pretty great. Of course, few bands can get by on the strength of vocals alone, and My Jerusalem’s no exception; great as he is here, Klein alone couldn’t pull this off. Which is fine, because his multi-instrumentalist bandmates Jon Merz (guitars/keys/horns), Michael St. Clair (violin/keys/horns), Grant Van Amburgh (drums), and Geena Spigarelli (bass) ably step in to add flesh to the bones. They weave together a fabric of Out West-sounding rock that’s both desperate and downtrodden, like some film-noir story set out in the desert somewhere neat the California/Arizona border. There’s a similarity to Murder By Death, to my ears, as well as a Decemberists-ish “ensemble” thing that makes it all come off a bit like a radio play or stage performance (which isn’t a bad thing, at least not to me). At first the Nick Cave comparisons seem the most apt, with the piano and darkly-imagined boogie sound of “Preachers,” but My Jerusalem quickly morph into something resembling the Afghan Whigs with “Shatter Together,” all low-slung, droning guitars and sinister vibe. More out-and-out rock (albeit with an oddly ’50s-ish tinge to it), “Born In The Belly” is snarling and scraping, with moments that make me think of Dax Riggs, but then there’s “Mono,” gentle and pretty, which I think is a heartfelt ode to rolling a bedridden loved one over so they, um, don’t get bed sores. (Again, I think.) Then there’s the jaunty, old-school country ramble of “This Time,” which channels the aforementioned Man In Black and Hank Williams, Sr., and the tense, bleak terror of “Death Valley,” which roars above to become one of the best tracks on here. A little further on, “Oh Little Sister” gives us a bit of a breather, with a sweet, bouncy pop anthem worthy of The Strokes, but the band quickly steps back into character with the quiet solemnity of “Chameleon” before ending with “I Left My Conscience In You,” which drifts through Ryan Adams territory ’til the end, when it explodes into gloriously messy, sprawling noise. Taken all together, Preachers is a dark-yet-vibrant ride through the twilight, headed on down the highway to somewhere you can’t quite see but which could very well be a grim, bitter end. So why not sit back and enjoy the drive, right?

Okay - do we know if there's a web-site for Jeff Klein fans? I've searched the web and can't find anything - I want somewhere that can list his songs chronologically and thoroughly - ?

Has anyone found a video for "I'm Holding In The World" I can't find one. That has got to be the saddest song ever written. Also looking for the lyrics to "Kiss and Tell" - love that one!(well, actually, I love all of his songs) I can figure out most of the lyrics, but not all -

There is no site for Klein fans unfortunately. That's the reason I started to collect as much information about his releases as possible and post them here. Luckily silence is quite the fan too, because I hadn't found anything online about the releases he mentioned, until he contributed them. I've been meaning to combine all those posts in chronological order, just haven't gotten around to it, and really don't know where I'd put it anyway. There is a Jeff Klein tumblr, and an abandoned site that I linked to on the previous page.
I've never seen a video for 'Holding In The World', not sure there is one, silence would probably know more. And as for lyrics, I suck at decyphering them. For the most part, at least.

I got as far as the chorus of Kiss & Tell and then gave up As for Holding... couldn't find anything either. It's my favourite song of his, and it's incredibly heartbreaking (it's about his mum, who was still alive at the time but who was lost to Alzheimer's). Hopefully he'll find the time to solo tour again and squeeze this one in for the benefit of someone with a camera. No idea of any sites as such, there's a My Jerusalem Fans Facebook page but weirdly it's died since Preachers was announced...

I had assumed that it was about a loved one - first I thought possibly a girlfriend, but then, the more I listened to it, I KNEW it was about his mother - thanks for confirming. It is possibly my favorite Jeff Klein song. I am still obsessively listening only to Jeff and My Jerusalem - just can't seem to get him/them out of my head - and still can't understand why he's not more widely appreciated. Trench - that would be great if you could make up a chronological list of his songs - I keep going to every website I can find on him, and most end around 2008 - except of course, the My Jerusalem site, which I check daily - and their facebook pages - there just aren't enough videos out there, either - I've seen every one several times - we need some from their current tour! Good to hear from you both - doomed

This is my best attempt at Kiss and Tell. I think it's about 95% correct, but any corrections, or guesses at the parts contained [in these things], are more than welcome:
Well it's about time I introduced you to the person I really am, I aint no saint, I aint no sinner, I aint no Son of Sam, Well I'm just the person who's gonna show you [after screwin' us?] all about, So open your eyes, relax your lips and just let me in your mouth
It feels too good to be so bad but in the end it stings like hell, [Blood in good times babe it subsides me?], come out of your shell [more? or just a random Jeff noise?]
It's a common reaction, like all the other angels who fell, So let's get back to the action, and play a little kiss and tell
Kiss and tell...
I know that your real, and it feels so real and if you feel the way that I feel, Take off that dress, lay on my chest and find another soul to steal, You lose control and now your goal is go and slaughter another lamb, [When it's time?] she strikes, just like a fox, just like the animal that I am
It's a common reaction, like all the other angels who fell, So let's get back to the action, and play a little kiss and tell
Kiss and tell...

Good job, trench! You got more than I had managed so far - especially the part I bolded above - that sounds about right to me - I do love this song - the promo one I got on e-bay is so down and dirty - like the old southern blues songs that you dared not play when your parents were around! doomed

I'm still (very slowly it has to be said) compiling the "complete" chronological list. I put "complete" in quotation marks because I don't think it can ever really be complete, what with some releases containing different songs, some releases not giving up their tracklistings at all, and all the sly, one-off uploads that Jeff seemed to be happy at. I mean take this for example, which I happened upon whilst doing more research:
Experiments in Sound and Space (17.07.2006)
Jeff Klein performs a secret last minute show while on vacation in London. The club is the size of a hotel room, but they sweat through it to have a fun chaotic night.
19th Hole Nearly Motionless Jeff Klein - Pity Ironside Red Lantern Cobalt Hue Put You To Sleep Suzanne Stripped
When I have this done, I might start a new thread dedicated to Jeff Klein/My Jerusalem, and post the "complete" list in it. Maybe we'll get more people interested and possibly glean more information. Also, it would be nice to have it just to post news in, and maybe gig reviews and the like.

There's a defunct Nick Drake site that mentions that Jeff played Pink Moon in its entirety in Austin in November 2000. Would have loved to have heard that one.
