Being released February 18th in the U.K, the 19th in the U.S. From Pitchfork: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have announced details of their 15th (!) studio album: Push the Sky Away will be released in February (18 in the UK, U.S. date TBA UPDATE: It's out February 19 in the U.S.) That's the artwork above. The first single to be taken from the follow-up to 2008's Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!, "We No Who U R", will be available from December 3. Watch a tense trailer for the album below, featuring footage of the band recording. "This is one of those nasty ballads!" Cave exclaims at one point. Push the Sky Away is, according to a release, the most "subtly beautiful" of all the Bad Seeds' albums. It was produced by Nick Launay and recorded at La Fabrique, a studio ensconsed within a 19th century mansion in south France. "Well, if I were to use that threadbare metaphor of albums being like children, then Push the Sky Away is the ghost-baby in the incubator and Warren's [Ellis] loops are its tiny, trembling heart-beat," wrote Cave. The Bad Seeds are Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey, Thomas Wydler, Jim Sclavunos, and Conway Savage. Check out the album's tracklist below, followed by the trailer. Push the Sky Away1. We No Who U R 2. Wide Lovely Eyes 3. Water's Edge 4. Jubilee Street 5. Mermaids 6. We Real Cool 7. Finishing Jubilee Street 8. Higgs Boson Blues 9. Push The Sky Away pitchfork.com/news/48724-nick-cave-and-the-bad-seeds-announce-new-album-push-the-sky-away/Available for pre-order right now, there's a nice big deluxe box thing for £90, but I went for the limited book-style release. Oh, here's that trailer:

Okay, guys - I finally had time to search here on OW for anything Nick Cave-related and found this thread and of course, here are silence and trench! We do like the same type of music, I see - I had ordered Push the Sky Away based on Obi's recommendation, and when I received it, I played it non-stop (and am still playing it) for several days and have become obsessed now with Cave - I have that one, Boatman's Call, Murder Ballads, and Abattoir Blues, with the outtakes album on order. What next? (I have Push the Sky and Boatman's Call on permanent replay on my player). I'm also loving all the videos on youtube of Nick live - especially that killer "Stagger Lee"!!! It's so wonderful to find someone new (to you) who has so many albums and so much f*ckin' talent!!

The Live Seeds cd from the early 90's has a great demented preacher feel to it and the whole band are great.

There's footage of The Weeping Song up on youtube now. I never thought Lanegan would end up singing that with Cave. It's cool to see. Everytime I see Warren Ellis playing I'm reminded of that Tom Waits quote, “A gentleman is someone who can play the accordion, but doesn't.”

I am one happy person - my B-Sides and Rarities came today - I've only had a chance to listen to maybe 3 or 4 so far, but I'm sure the other motorists were wondering what the hell that crazy woman was laughing at, all alone in her car! I just can't stop smiling - just anticipating what's in store! And this is only the beginning - he has such a catalog I have yet to go through. Happy days indeed!

My copy of this finally arrived yesterday, and fucking wow. I was expecting to be a little disappointed by it, but no. No. I haven't stopped listening to it (I have, I had to sleep). At the moment Higgs Boson Blues and Jubilee Street are totally taking me to the fair, as is the bonus track Needleboy. The rest of the album is pretty incredible too.
Oh, and doomed, don't forget about Grinderman.

Oh, and doomed, don't forget about Grinderman. I won't, trench - but from what I've heard, I much prefer Nick's Bad Seed music - isn't Grinderman's music louder and more rock-music as opposed to his soulful, heart-breaking songs? Tell me if I'm wrong, please!! I really don't know. I only know that I totally love what I have so far, and Push the Sky is absolutely divine.

Maybe not so soulful, but definitely heartfelt and raw. Honestly, check out the Grinderman stuff, it's fucking amazing. They aren't always balls-to-the-wall, face-meltingly abrasive; they have their softer side too. That said, the Bad Seeds have their soft side, but they can be balls-to-the-walls face melting and abrasive.
I'm cherry-picking here, but sure:
I think the nutshell answer is that you can't really go wrong with any Nick Cave release. Just get them all because you will love them.
Oh aye. don't forget The Boys Next Door and The Birthday Party.

That's basically what I've already decided - must have them all. God, I just can't believe how much I love this man's music! I've been listening to the B-Sides & Rarities non-stop for 2 days now - all of the versions of O'Malley's Bar (!) - Sheep May Safely Graze - the ever-powerful Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Riverentum - simply unbelievable. I have such a journey ahead of me and I'm ecstatic! Thanks for your help, guys - one question - why is it that most of the albums on Amazon by The Birthday Party have the caveat "Explicit lyrics" !!!
