Dudes and dudettes, seriously? Ya'll haven't located even one voice-over yet ? I thought we had some super sleuths up in heyah?

I don't think he actually did those voice overs? I read it as him simply explaining what collaboration offer he's received, not necessarily accepted.

Just reading through the accompanying booklet to the CD, what a lovely surprise on the last page thanks for letting me know there is still a reason to buy a physical copy even though I bought the mp3's this weekend ... not that with hand written lyrics and packaging made with love wasn't going to be reason enough anyone else a bit underwhelmed with the unreleased material? I mean my favorite 2 songs are Big White Cloud and Following the Rain and I mean, I had those 2 songs forever before this comp. My favorite of the wholly unreleased songs would have to be Blues for D vocal version, the rest of the songs all have a "samey" quality to them vocally, and musically I can hear bits and pieces of the songs that eventually found release on Bubblegum. And it's too bad they didn't have the masters for Following the Rain or Big White Cloud, so they could receive some beefier production. For example of what I mean, listen to Wheels or Day and Night from the WFTHG demos vs the finished product and imagine Following the Rain getting that treatment. Christopher

Given that much of the unreleased stuff has info dating it as "either x year or the one after", it's a miracle that anyone knew where it was, let alone actually having the masters to hand Only given it one proper playthrough so far, but the unreleased stuff has knocked me sideways - Following The Rain has always done that anyway, but No Contestar in particular absolutely flattens me, bot in terms of its impact and its brevity. Stuff like this is always interesting to me as some of it is genuinely beautiful but when there's a choice to be made it's usually hidden from us just how close some things get - Blues For D with/without vocals for example, or No Contestar/One Hundred Days. I guess because they're offcuts that they're a bit more scattergun in nature than the main Anthology (which is pitched, and timed, perfectly), but there's nothing in there that I don't at least find absolutely fascinating... EDIT: weirdly, and now most of the alcohol has evaporated, I see that No Contestar is the most recent song on here (2011), way after OHD.

Granted I haven't listened to the songs in their entirety yet, but judging from the LITA and Amazon clips, I'm really looking forward to hearing To Valencia Courthouse, A Song While Waiting, and the vocal version of Blues For D. The fact that he included Wheels in this anthology was reason enough for me to buy

got the mp3 and waiting on vinyl & cd to show up. have listened to the unreleased stuff about 50 times now and am completely blown away. leaving new river blues is insane. same goes for halcyon daze, grey goes black, and to valencia courthouse. having 9 previously unheard lanegan tracks is an incredible gift, but that they're all of such high caliber makes this hands down the release of the year for me.

Retail (non-sub, non-promo) sets I guess will start shipping internationally soon (official shipping date is the 8th for a 13th street date), as I'm thinking they'll want to be aiming to get stuff arriving as close to the 18th as possible

Christopher Have to agree sadly thus far all rather underwhelming. The unreleased tracks sound like interesting but unfinished 'sketches' to me rather than finished tracks in their own right. The 9 new tracks are similar in feel to each other but very different in both style, lyrical content and musical accompaniment to anything in Lanegan's career to date. oldie 'Following the rain' actually sounds worse than some of my bootleg copies of the whiskey demo's and 'blues run the game' from the lola's bootleg was a frankly pointless addition from a musical standpoint. Wish all of the cook county soundtrack was included as well. Overall it feels a little bit like a missed opportunity but still worth having of course .

I'm overwhelmed by the unreleased material. I've been listening over and over on headphones. I don't know which song is which as it's all just so lovely I haven't even looked at the titles. I've only got my version but will buy CO when my local record shop gets a copy.

Review on www.theguardian.comwww.theguardian.com/music/2014/jan/02/mark-lanegan-has-god-seen-my-shadow-anthology-1989-2011-reviewThis beautifully packaged anthology traces the former Screaming Trees frontman's journey toward becoming gothic Americana's own Man in Black. It's a role he's clearly grown into, navigating the dark waters between blackness, self-parody and beautiful songwriting with increasing aplomb. The two CDs are full of trademark ruminations on death, religion and drunkenness (of the kind that sees him drinking "so much sour whiskey that I can't see"). However, there's love and even prettiness in Mirrored and Low, a lovely distant relative of the Velvet Underground's Pale Blue Eyes. Along the way, he stretches his musical palette into flamenco and Celtic guitar and throws in the blackest of humour – lines such as "Don't mind being stoned, they say Jesus was" sound better delivered by his graveyard, deadpan vocal. Of the 32 tracks – 12 unreleased – not one ups the pace beyond the funereal. Still, when cheers ring out for the closing, comically restarted live cover of Jackson C Frank's Blues Run the Game, he sounds perilously close to enjoying himself.

Quick UK priceguide for anyone ordering locally (well, locally if you're in the UK)... Piccadilly Records: £12.99 CD, £33.99 LP Rough Trade: £14.99 CD, £37.99(!) LP Amazon: £9.99 CD, £12.99 Download (No LP for sale - and Amazon don't add VAT until you pay, so add another 20% for that). Moon Unit Records: £27.99 (a vinyl-only shop, based in a pub! No CD then, but possibly crisps) Norman Records: LP £32.99, CD £15.69 Recordstore: £30.99 LP, £15.99 CDSpin CDs: £32.99 LP, £12.99 CDiTunes UK not selling it (so far) Not included postage/packing prices as they'll be subject to weight, but Norman has it pegged at £5.80 for the 3LP and £1.50 for the 2CD, I'd expect the rest to be around that figure. Amazon UK now have the LP for £24.99 with a free delivery option. Not sure if this includes VAT though, so could push it up to £32 if they haven't (tried it - VAT is included). Will probably still be cheapest overall when delivery is taken into account and you're not near enough to a shop to just pop in and buy one.
