Easily in my top 3. Some sound problems at the beginning causing Mark to ask the sound guys to rise his voice level during the GRavedigger's song if I remember correctly. We were under the impression that Mark had some vocal issues. Strangely not when he was singing, but when he thanked the audience after some tracks or introduced the band members. I have never hear him talk with this voice and really hope that there won't be any problems with the end of the tour. I really liked the Gravedigger's Song, Quiver Syndrome and Harvest Home sequence when they rocked the show. I only regret that he left some Phantom Radio song that I would have liked to hear live as Waltzing in Blue or Seventh Day. First Phantom Radio song appear only after 10 songs! Place was full, thanks to Jeff Fielder to get us into it, you're the man! We could not stay for the signing as there were to much people in the line. I was a bit surprised by the audience's age! First time that I see so many people having 40 if not 50 in the public. Is it the same in the other countries or am I just getting old too?

The show I went in Brussels, end of January, his voice also sounded so 'raw'. I thought he had a cold or something like that. Also the audience was 'mature' and I like that

Hello everyone, sorry I don't come very often these days, but I thought you might like to read my English review of the Paris show. For the French one, it will be posted soon on this siteSeventh gig of Mark tonight for me, the fourth with the full band. Strangely, for the first time I don’t run to the Alhambra. I like Phantom Radio, but it’s still too slow for me, a notch below Bubblegum and Blues Funeral. It’s not my fault if I’m more of a rock person, QOTSA fan turned Mark fan thereafter. As I loved the previous visit of Mark at the Alhambra (for the Imitations tour) though, I still think I would enjoy that gig tonight, but even if I didn’t know why, I was thinking it was going to be less enjoyable that, for example, the Rock en Seine 2012. I was totally wrong. I arrived at the venue at the time of door opening, there was already a huge queue (the gig is sold out), but nonetheless, I reached without problems the second row in the “pit”. People seemed eager to go upstairs at the seating places. As usual, we got Lyenn and Duke Garwood as opening “bands”. Lyenn’s joke about him being our aperitif was a bit hackneyed for me, as he already said that in this same Alhambra in November 2013, but I enjoyed the set, even without the surprise of all the cries he lets out at the end. He was on the far left of the stage and me on the far right, so not ideally placed, but I still could see him more or less correctly. He made me laugh when he said that he was sorry to drain our morale, but that he will continue anyway Duke was accompanied by a drummer this time, a discreet drummer for sure, but nevertheless, I thought it added deepness to the songs, and I liked him more that time (I saw him twice previously and also liked him, but obviously it’s still too calm for me to really be a fan). It was difficult to stay concentrated on the music though, even if most of the people were really polite and applauded copiously between every song, because nearly two hours and a half flowed by between the opening of the doors and the arrival of Mark on stage. A bit too much… Finally, Jeff Fielder entered the stage, immediately followed by Mark, a bit of a shock for me, I was thinking he would arrive after the full band. The reason was simple: Jeff and him were alone for the first two tracks, When Your Number Isn’t Up (what an opening this song is!) and Low. The sound was really perfect, and will still be the same with the full band. Mark was limping badly and when he thanked us (between nearly every song!) his voice was more of a cawing, but when he was singing, was marvelous as usual. Even after the entry of Aldo, Frédéric and Jean-Philippe, the setlist still went on slowly, but Morning Glory Wine was so wonderful with Aldo’s keyboards (they sounded like an organ) that I didn’t care anyway. However, I was even more excited when The Gravedigger’s Song began. Curiously, Mark skipped the verse in French (shyness? ;-)). All my fears of before the gig were gone, the setlist was absolutely perfect, the new songs played were among my favorites on the album, and sounded even better live. And there was still enough Blues Funeral to please me. Mark seemed in a really good mood (well, you know that all is relative with him, but between all his “thank you very much” and the presentation of the band, during which he described Aldo as “one and unique”, I think I can say that). I nearly cried during One Way Street, which is I think the first solo song of Mark I heard in my life. And yet, God knows they often play it. I must say again that the setlist was exceptional, really varied, even including Deepest Shade from Imitations. The closing of the first part of the show on Death Trip to Tulsa was gigantic (nothing to do with this review, but I immediately have a song in my head when writing this word, don’t you?). The electronic part of the song is beautiful. During the encore, Mark said to us “It means a lot”, hand on the heart. I was really touched by that. Duke went to play the last three songs of the night with the rest of the band. As always, Methamphetamine Blues was really appreciated by the crowd, but I was also very impressed by I Am The Wolf. On CD, I was just “well, OK, it’s cool” but live, the text really comes into its own. “I am the wolf without a pack, banished so long ago”. They could have ended the gig on that one, it is so representative of Mark. But The Killing Season was good too. I clearly lack of words to say how awesome this gig was, even in French. Jeff took a photo of us like last time (I hope I can find it this time, but I don’t think I can really be seen on that one, I’m too small ;-)), and then, he said Mark would be at the merch. So I was obviously there too! I didn’t buy the poster with the wolf and the whale that was eyeing me up (35€ for a poster, I can’t afford that, as I have something like thirty favorite bands!) but I bought a beanie and gave my ticket to Mark for a signing. I said to him how beautiful the gig was and that I will see him at Rock en Seine, but I don’t think he heard me, people were talking a lot and I have such a small voice, especially when I’m intimidated (and I was, even if it was my third time meeting Mark). It was such a wonderful night, I’m ashamed that I had doubts about the setlist before the show. Thank you so much Mark, Jeff, Aldo, Frédéric, Jean-Philippe, Duke and Paul for this *** gig (fill the blank with any extremely positive word you feel is appropriate) and see you at Rock en Seine guys!

I'll get around to writing something properly about the Lisbon show, but in short- it was amazing. Easily the best of the three gigs I had seen on this tour (San Fran, London, Lisbon).

Hey if anyone wants to know about the Moscow gig, I'll just copy my message from facebook (I'm still so excited about it that I can't stop talking about it everywhere): just wanted to say a couple of words about tonight's gig in moscow: it was mindblowing! i'm in awe, the guys were so great and Mark's singing is incredible. he actually smiled and even danced a little. Jeff took pictures of the crowd in the end and said we were crazy. Which is true, we were singing, screaming, dancing, jumping etc. They did 21 songs I think. There were 2 more on the setlist but they didn't play them for some reason. Mark had the lyrics for the Killing Season on a paper, but that song wasn't played. I wish the concert could just keep going! I don't wanna leave this heaven so soon... by the way, they did arrange the autograph session and I managed to give Mark a little present. At first I gave it to him and explained what it was - I painted Phantom Radio cover on a pebble from the beach that I usually go to - he looked a bit surprised, took the pebble, looked it over etc thanked me. For some reason some manager girl told me we can't take a picture, he will only sign something, so I left. I waited a bit for people to leave and got back in line. I bought a poster and went to Mark again. I think he recoqnized me and and smiled at me. I said, "it's me again" he signed the poster and we took pictures. He was so nice! shook his hand and told him how happy i am, thanked, cant wait to see you again etc. he was very sweet about everything. just as im about to leave, my mom (she was there, too), she started pointing at my handmade blues funeral sweatshirt. everyone recognized it and pointed at it, too, saying something like "our picture! our picture!" I barely remember that moment because smiling Mark turned me into a pile of goo. well, tl;dr it was great and i am so happy, post-concert depression kicks in 3...2...1... Edited to add: I was teeny tiny bit sad that they didn't play Revival and robbed us of two songs but oh well. I'm just really happy about seeing them at all. I also managed to say hi to Jeff and chat to Aldo a little bit, told him I loved Night of the Hunter. He was very nice about it. Oh and Aldo and Fred played as the Faye Dunaways before the show which I enjoyed a lot. Now I really want to and can't wait to go to Rock en Seine. I wonder if there's any chance that Mark will also perfom at some club in Paris around the time of the festival? That would be awesome.

I know people here love mark. That's why we're all here sharing our experiences but please there are photos from this tour I'm seeing on Facebook groups that are getting creepy. Pics of mark on his phone taking a (maybe) personal call is strange. It's nice that you are excited to see him and all (not sarcastic I've never had the courage to talk to mark in the twelve years I've been going to see him, never even did a merch table signing) but it's a bit strange to take photos of him from a distance talking on the phone I don't know what it can contribute. It's stuff about personal boundaries that got his offical forum shut years ago. Really trying not to be dramatic just let's be considerate and respectful

Absolutely well said. I met him in the signing queue during the Blues Funeral Tour and he seemed genuinely nice, humble, polite and appreciative. However, he's only human and deserves privacy and courtesy. Yes, we put money his way but that doesn't make him our property. Be thankful that he's as accessible as he is (iamgine having to do selective "meet and greet" events instead....).
I once saw him and his bandmates getting dinner, before a show in Leeds UK with Isobel in 2007. I could have easily gone over and bothered him, but I thought, "how would I like it if I was eating my dinner and someone started pestering me for a photo?". So I didn't bother - no big deal.
People who claim "such & such a star/celeb was rude" were probably guilty of being far ruder at the time......

Sorry to barge in in the middle of these great reviews, but...
If you are or you know of someone who is trying to join this forum, PLEASE tell them to follow the directions! I am approving people to join almost every day, but I'm getting 2 - 3 requests a day that do not follow directions so I don't approve them for fear that they are spammers.
If you want to join, either use the message function that is available as you sign up to let me know you're a real person who wants to join, or, if that doesn't work or you don't like it, send me an email to onewhiskey at aol.com (formatted correctly) with the same message. I feel bad for all the people who miss this, but after the furniture thing it has to be this way or we'll get tons of junk on here.
Thanks, please go back to your normal programming...

Nice review Dveri ! I don't think Mark will play a club show at the time of Rock en Seine, but we never know... I agree with you siner, sometimes people are so impolite, but that's a pity you never went to a signing, I'm like the shyest person in the world, but that was worth it the 3 times I did it. Oh I miss the kitchen posts too

You prefer that one Dveri finally ? It has a pretty cool line-up, I like the Jesus and Mary Chain and am a big fan of Kaiser Chiefs (well, except their last album). It would probably cost you a lot less than coming to Paris.

I still hope MLB will announce a date nearby so I could go to both concert and justify such a trip By the way I asked Aldo on facebook if there will be more concerts this summer apart from Indiependence, Lokerse Feesten and Rock en Seine, and he said, "don't know yet...there will be more !". Sigh, time will tell...
