Couldnt help but notice Mark wasnt moving so well last night. Had real trouble getting down the stairs at the back of the stage. Was this from slipping on the snow in Oslo or some injury from before?

The thing with the lights is normal. Since the beginning he has always asked for the lights to be turned low, no bright stage lights, no spotlights, and absolutely no flash photography in his face. I think most people/places know this, but once in a while someone doesn't. A similar thing happened in San Francisco this year - he got through more than half the set, then suddenly they put a spot on him and he did the same thing with shaking his head no. At least the guy there got it right away and turned it down before he had to say anything.
And yes, he started this tour with an injury.

Is the back injury related to the problem he had a few tours ago, when he seemed to be having issues moving, and ended the encores actually sitting down?

Hello everyone, someone's coming to the Paris gig ? Do you want to do something special for Mark's birthday or is it better not doing anything ? I'm not sure he appreciates this sort of thing...

Went to Trix Antwerp yesterday. It was my fifth time hearing ML live. I heard great versions of Hit the city, come to me and Methamphetamine Blues. The presence of Shelley upgraded most of the songs. She kissed Mark after Deepest Shade. I didn't see that one coming, the audience loved it Bleeding Muddy Water was surprisingly good. Very intense. BUT If I could choose Mark's set, it wouldn't contain many songs from yesterday's set or any other set from the last 5 years. I dig the 90's Lanegan. I'm craving for Ugly Sunday, Borracho, carnival, carry home, waiting on a train etc etc. But that's not going to happen, that I realise... Not so good imo yesterday: Everything from Gargoyle and Phantom Radio. And i'm getting tired of hearing the Blues Funeral songs. But no regrets here seeing him. And sadly, it looks like he could use a wheelchair.

So sorry you didn't like the set list, but glad you shared the part about Shelley - that was very sweet Very glad she is touring with him this time. SO sorry to hear he is not doing well, I had hoped he was getting better. It must be so miserable to be performing every night while hurting like that Breaks my heart

Last night in Paris was all about the stage lights...
No doubt that everyone here will see Mark on YouTube, inviting the lighting guy to a fight after the show...
Setlist was shorter than the other nights. Sound was bad, voice and guitar were too low in the mix. Great rendition of Death Trip To Tulsa. Nice (almost)acoustic encore with Shelley.
I got my Down in the Dark 7" finally signed and got to talk to Jeff a little bit. What a nice person he is.

I agree that Jeff is awesome!
You know, I don't get it with the lights. I'm sure that before every show, things like sound and lights are discussed at soundcheck - why do they change them during the show, and expect it to be fine? Anyone who's heard of Mark would know he doesn't do bright flashy stage lights, but if you somehow missed that, you'd learn at soundcheck wouldn't you? I've never done that type of job, so I don't know for sure, but it seems logical to me. Do what the person on stage wants, so they can perform their best without distraction.

My review of the gig (I agree Raeni !) My 10th time seeing Mark today, at the Café de la Danse in Paris where I saw him with Isobel more than seven years ago. I love the venue, which is small, and my boyfriend comes with me (it was only his second gig of Mark) so perfect conditions for this evening. Jeff was at the entry at the venue, and I didn’t dare asking for an autograph, what an idiot. We found a place at the first row, on the right, near Aldo’s keyboards. Lyenn opened the gig as usual, I’m a bit tired of seeing him opening for Mark, but I like him, always waiting for the screams at the end. Then there was Joe Cardamone, a guy who is into the NIN / Manson style. He seems like a wanker, begins his performance with a very special movie, and has no backing band with him, only pre-recorded tracks. Despite all of that, I loved his voice and the images behind him, that were playing on oppositions to shock (like, videos of Alep followed by Giorgio Armani and Yves Saint-Laurent). Apparently, a lot of people hated the whole thing (my boyfriend included ) and someone shouted “Finally it’s finished” at the end. I don’t like this disrespectful behaviour, but Cardamone is obviously too different from Lanegan, he would probably obtain better reception opening for “industrial” bands. And also if there was a full band on the stage... And then it was time for the one and only Mark Lanegan Band. People were definitely aware of Mark’s birthday, they began to sing, but the band played Death’s Head Tattoo without saying something about it. But I’m pretty sure Mark definitely heard it, and he wasn’t angry about that, which is nice. However, for the lights everything went wrong. At the beginning it was just the usual signs with the arms by Mark and his roadie (the poor guy had a terrible evening...), but during Beehive there was a big flash, I was disturbed too, and Mark yelled at the lights guy to switch them off. I had never seen him so angry before. I was worried the incident would ruin the rest of the gig, but strangely I had the feeling Mark’s anger was fitting very well with the following song, Bleeding Muddy Water. He seemed to relax pretty quickly after all that, luckily for us. Enough talking about lights, there was music on the stage, and what music! Where we were, we heard too many keyboards (don’t misunderstand me, Aldo is amazing, but Mark’s voice and Jeff’s guitar are important!). But I think that was the price to pay being where we were, and it was not horrible, just annoying on certain songs (no problem of course when Aldo takes the guitar, or on songs where the keyboards are a big part, like during Ode to Sad Disco, Floor of the Ocean or the wonderful Death Trip to Tulsa). Apart from that, I personally found the sound was correct, nothing to compare with the Trabendo in 2012, where I hardly heard Mark at all. I was a bit disappointed not hearing Shelley very well on Hit the City, I had waiting for such a long time to have a girl’s voice live on that song, but Come to Me and Bombed definitely compensate that. That feminine presence was a good addition to the band... and we had a kiss ;-) (Mark and Shelley of course, I wasn’t involved ). One of my personal highlights was Emperor (what an excellent and danceable song, and a new one, which is always good when you’re a regular like me ). Even if Mark seems to have big difficulties to walk these days, he was sort of dancing too, in his own way. Another one was One Way Street, which is the first solo song I heard, back in 2006 (very late, I know...). The whole encore with only Jeff and Shelley was very beautiful, even if we would have loved to see the whole band back, for, I don’t know, maybe Methamphetamine Blues? Never mind, this was a beautiful end for a beautiful show. After the gig it was Christmas before Christmas for me, I’m very shy and I was looking at Aldo’s setlist with envy and hope in my eyes, but Aldo was occupied unplug everything, I didn’t dare to ask, and then suddenly he just gave it to me, I was so happy Mark was doing the signing afterwards, so I made him sign it and wished him happy birthday just before leaving, in case it will not please him, but he smiled. What an excellent night! When’s the 11th one?

Thank you for this review. I was worried that the entire evening had been ruined by the light issues. Nice that despite that and his injury it seems like it was a very good birthday show for him and you all as well:) Knowing his personality, when the incident happens that's really what I was thinking, that it was the end of it. It looks like he was in a good mood, fortunately for us.
