Desert Song is such a beautiful closer.

Just listened to this for the first time, straight through on vinyl and the experience was absolutely overwhelming. Can't think of a single thing to criticize. Dark Mark is back!

Has anyone been able to download the MP3s from Heavenly (per the instructions given on the vinyl copies)? Unless it's user error on my part, they don't seem to be available yet.

Listening to it on Spotify right now. I'm only thirty or so seconds in on Feast to Famine and I'm already loving the vibe. The cover art looks stunning as well. Hope they'll include a lyric sheet in the CD edition, I'm definitely planning on buying this.

Feast to Famine, Desert Song, Upon Doing Something Wrong, With Animals, One Way Glass, Save Me, and Spaceman are all standouts to me. The album as a whole is growing on me. I still prefer his solo work, feels like there's something lacking musically with Garwood, but the album is solid nonetheless. Loving how Mark defers to his lighter vocal tone on roughly half the songs here.

I really can't wait to hear this. I preordered months ago from Heavenly, but guess I'm penalized for living in the US since my copy hasn't arrived yet. I was hoping it was more supportive to get it directly from the label, but the sad truth is, if I'd just used Amazon I'd have had it Friday like everyone else! Resisting the urge to just listen in on youtube or something else - just waiting for the real thing.

Yes I am in the same boat. I have not even received my notice of dispatch yet Super frustrating - but I am still holding out for the real thing too. I got Gargoyle a whole week after it released - I hope this will be quicker but I am not counting on it.

Resisting the urge to just listen in on youtube or something else - just waiting for the real thing. My compromise is to go with a domestic indie retailer. I ordered mine from Bullmoose, and received it on Wednesday. They're pretty reliable at getting pre-orders to my door a day or two early, never late. Amoeba also usually gets stuff to be right on time. I can't say that I have been impressed by Heavenly - they screwed up a previous order and were less than helpful in resolving it. This time around, the digital downloads for vinyl buyers still aren't available on their site, which says: "Mp3 downloads coming soon. Your mp3s are not available for downloading at present. Please check again at a later date." Their website has no email address, so one has to rely on social media for a response. Let's see how long it takes them to reply via that avenue.

It's 11.45pm, at work, tucked up in bed and having the first listen. I was just gonna list the stand outs but as the old sayin goes "all killer no filler". Exceptional soundscapes produced here to back up Mr Lanegan's vocal. I think his vocals on some tracks are reminiscent of early 90s stuff, along with hearing familier melodies/ chord structures throughout. Personally I thought BP was pretty good on 1st listen, this album tops that. Good night!

Well wellwater, ironically I'm a senior in a home for people with learning disabilities. 24hr shifts with a "sleep" inbetween. I'd had a bit of a shitty day and don't tend to listen to many tunes, but had it on Spotify and reading the comments from you crazy kids.... Relaxed yeah relaxed, eyes closed, pitch black room, just put me in the zone(and in a much better mood)

I think the new album is brilliant. I love that the songs are short, that the recording equipment was 60s era (but sounds fresh) and I think Mark's lyrics are brilliant when you remove the typical verse / chorus / verse aspect. Duke is a genuine musician, but in this case, the minimalist approach to Duke's usually incredibly hard to play guitar parts really makes this record shine. Granted, I'm a fan of Black Pudding and I think it's a standout record in the Lanegan catalog, but this is surprising and refreshing. Can't way to see them play both Black Pudding and With Animals live. I also hope they do a "concert only" release of both records at some point.
I think this collaboration is just getting started...

I also like the sound they got...that vintage Tascam worked wonders. Digital as opposed to analog synths have always bothered me. Thin, harsh, strident. Not here. The analog conversion results in a very rich, warm sound, if anything maybe a little too warm and hazy. But I'll take that every day over the alternative. Have listened to the vinyl five times now and still can't find a single cut that I would categorize as weak. That being said, if I were pressed, my favorite would be My Shadow Life and least favorite would be Scarlett. Not ready to say this is as good as Black Pudding but it's close. Hope to see a third album sometime.

No lyrics joined to the cd. Too bad... Too bad indeed. I'd hoped they'd include them. How's the artwork?

I’ve listened to it a few times but for me I like BP better. There’s a couple of songs that really grabbed me but I’ve not had the urge to keep listening. But then I have lots to do before I fly out for the UK on Sunday and I’m very much looking forward to their gig in London

There's no booklet joined to the cd, only a cover image. It looks like a trunk seen up close.

Great mood on this album, and definitely enjoy the more subtle use of electronics compared to Mark's more recent solo (MLB) work.

It's growing on me. Seems understated in a good way - I agree with the comment above - great mood. I'll be interested in how this comes over live - this Friday!
If anyone needs cds picking up, let me know and I'll try.

PM sent Ken.
I prefer black pudding but this is still a great album. Love Duke's last two albums as well they make a great listening session when alternated with the Lanegan/Garwood releases.

Listened to both today, setlist for Monday seems to suggest a straight run through of each album. I much prefer With Animals. Hopefully, there’s a band (at least a drummer). Be interested in the views of anyone who’s seen the concerts earlier this week.
