In the context of global events and being locked down I got reminiscing while browsing around on the forum and thinking about the old official lanegan forum, how I migrated over here once that shut down, the laughs and conversations I read and had here over the years, the people I used to see daily here then weekly and then not at all and the onewhiskey site itself slowing down (those pictures of the back of my head in Dublin 2003 were something I was dumbly proud of) I just thought I'd start a thread to check in and see how everyone's doing. So far with me I'm a front line worker but in a really specific area of mental health so while I see people and inpatients everyday in work we've been lucky to keep the virus out so far and my colleagues are religious about not coming in with even a hint of a symptom. Im living with someone whose immunosuppressed so I'm careful (and stressed) as fuck. I'm lucky that very few of my friends and family have been let go (lots of us in the public service) but I will say that I'm slowly losing my mind being locked away. Like everyone not having direct contact with my family and friends is chipping away slowly at my mind and spending too much time with one person is nerve wrecking. My best mate is pregnant, my parents are hitting their 80s, another bestie is a front line whose tested postive with her whole family and I can't help and I'm stuck within 2kms of my ratty house except for work and the city is a ghost town. Driving past the places that I loved now closed and realising that they'll probably never open again is heartbreaking. So basically fuck everything. I need a pint in the gravediggers (best Guinness in Dublin) a bag of cheese and onion tayto (best snack in the world) and a meaningless conversation with some old grumpy bastard standing at the bar about how shite the weather is for this time of year. How's everyone else???

Nice to see an oldtimer checking in here ...lockdown is going fine here in Canada...I basically live self isolated from people for 2 years anyway (long story, dont ask) so no big deal, now just have the kids and wife home with me all the time instead of just the dogs. bluetooth earbuds and spotify have been a go to. listen to music around the house, rediscovering lots of music left behind in the 90s. reading books. currently reading the raw shark texts, not a genre i usually read, so its meh. if i could recommend a book to read right now it would be reincarnation blues by michael poore. i read it a few years ago, i may re-read it. halfway through one of the witcher books, i cant remember which one, its just an e book on my phone. haven't looked at it in a while. kids have been playing a lot of fortnite on the ps4, so have i. lol. cheers everyone!

Yeah my world is a bit of a shiter at the moment, frontline worker, small group of staff. I worked 56hrs last week and week before was 60+hrs! In Feb I had 1 day off in 3 weeks!!! Me and Mrs Jesus live in a cul de sac and its very very strange as I think we're the only ones due to lockdown who are going to work(we work together 24 years+),its just so quiet as I drive away to/from work I'm sure them fuckers are having some kind of street party while we're not at home and quickly all run back in their homes once they see us coming down the road ha ha! Can't see my parents because their high risk but it is what it is! At least my bank balance is fuckin unbelievable.. It might seem like a moan but it isn't, if everyone follows the same rules/guidance and no ones tries to be a clevershit we will get through this quicker. So everyone stay safe, look after yourself and your families/loved ones and maybe we'll see each other at one of them lovely rescheduled lanegan gigs

Greetings from #1 in the coronavirus world, NY NY!
Coronavirus has made a number of my dreams come true, I get to work in my pajamas. Bed to desk (kitchen table) in under 15 minutes. No alarm clock & still waking up before starting time.... That is I'm mostly working from home, a first. Most of my job functions are done on computer so just as easily done at home. Not being able to go outdoors freely, though, frustrating. And having to wear a mask every time entering a store, likewise, a frustrating necessity at the mo'. I feel for those who have to be out there; I feel fortunate that I'm able to work from home.
Siner have you done zoom or fb messenger chats? They're amazing! I went from 0 to plenty in the last 4 weeks. A great way to connect. And who knew adults would be so amused by the filters. The fam will be getting together for Easter by fb messenger later today

Siner have you done zoom or fb messenger chats I'm avoiding zoom cos of all the scary shit I've been reading about its security and I'm off Facebook for ages now. I'm been using Skype. I need to get more motivated to see people. My motivation had taken a serious hit sitting on my arse making my way through 7 seasons of community on my days off has taken priority for some reason. New York seems like its crazy at the moment from all the stuff I've been seeing. Our taoiseach (prime minister) is an ex doctor and although I don't support him at all it's been reassuring to have someone with medical experience in charge of all this. On Saturday night Ireland had this "shine your light" display they asked people to put lights in their windows and outside their homes it made the drive home from work a little beautiful.

New York now seems to be on the other side, and there's a light at the end of the tunnel (for this wave). New York State hospitalizations never reached the moderate projection numbers (100k) and maxed at about 18k (a fifth of moderate projections). Showing just how effective the social distancing- and shutting down businesses and 6 foot distance campaign- was at stemming the virus. More- many more- people in US have lost their jobs than gotten sick. Hopefully the infection rate will continue to fall in NYS- 14 consecutive days health experts say, before they can start to slowly re-open things. It'll be a long time before there's big stadiums filled with thousands of people (a year or two?) but seems small groups may be allowed to gather -resume work, business - in a few weeks, a couple of months?...whatever the statistics on infection rate indicate.... assuming there's enough tests available to monitor such things-- All people wearing masks when near each other, of course. NYS Governor Cuomo has done a tremendous job of providing information (factual, truth, statistics, reality) and updates and giving straight forward direction (stay at home, appreciate the front line workers etc) in just about daily news press briefings that are aired daily in real time on network tv. He's definitely risen to the occassion, in contrast to the idiot in the white house who's said 'it's all going to go away, like a miracle' and has touted snake oil unsubstantiated treatments like hydroxyclhoroquine, which since his baseless claim, there's been a study that's shown an INCREASE in deaths in using that. Such a strange individual.... They've been doing a 7pm cheer here in NYC, 2-5 minutes of people banging pots & pans, ringing cowbell, singing, fireworks have gone off... it'll be a slow return to a new normal and a long time frame, I think. Wouldn't be surprised to see upstate New York start to re-open in the next few weeks. Not sure about NYC

Im so impressed with how new York has dealt with the virus, everyone seemed for the most part to band together and the freedom of information I think made people feel somewhat empowered. I forget sometimes how big the US is and how different people are but it's baffling to see people protesting the lock downs. We had something similar here, a conspiracy theorist and a right wing long haired bearded Catholic dope out protesting with about 100 people outside a court house saying the lock down was unconstitutional, two people incapable of an original thought and absolute con artists.
