i'm guessing the book will available at the first link as well? assuming you're in UK/Europe, that should be cheaper.

i'd love to support these poetry books, but I just can't justify spending $71.01 canadian on this when half of that doesn't even go to Lanegan himself, but just to the shipping company. i wonder if he will ever try for a better north american publishing deal.

To Oz the postage is same cost as book!!! And that was the cheapest option! I bought Plague Poems which also was the same split but I can’t justify it this time. I also doubt it’d be for sale at local outlet here?

got mine yesterday, i don't know how much poetic licence he took with some of these poems but some are brutally honest.

Some are quite honest and featuring the same level of darkness as Sing Backwards and Weep. I found some to a be a little conspiracy-theorist-ish for my taste with raising doubts about the length of time it's taken to develop the Covid vaccine, and is it all a plan to make Big Pharma richer, not something I'm overly keen on, but it's his work and beliefs so he is of course entitled to voice those (it ties in with the flavour of the interview last year where he seemed to hint he was being watched, intruded on by Facebook, so he's obviously got a lot of thoughts in those areas).
Many of the poems are quite absorbing, some disturbing and dark, giving an insight as to why he did leave California (doesn't sound like he's planning on heading back to the States) and the one for Greg at the end is very nicely done, reading more in story-telling form than most of the others.
Overall I found it a very interesting read.

Looks like some paperback editions are available on amazon and book depository now for plague poems and leaving california. still kinda pricey but free worldwide shipping i believe.. *edit. i ordered both and used discount code "CATHAY10" to get 10% off. order total was $69 canadian for both books.

I was wondering when he'd think of writing poetry proper. How many of you would recommend buying the book? I kinda like the three poems presented on that page.

I read the closing poem in Leaving California, "To Greg," last night, and it absolutely gutted me. I emotionally flatlined for about 15 minutes afterward, staring into the distance in tears. Only music could revive me.
What an incredible ode to their friendship and what a beautifully encapsulated view into what they shared as two people who never gave up on each other even when they were sorely tested. I am so grateful that Mark put out these books of poetry and shared of himself so openly in them.
I know it was a divisive/controversial subject here, but I always thought Mark's collaboration with Greg (not just on Saturnalia, but pretty much wherever and however they collaborated) was by far his best and most inspired. The Gutter Twins Bowery Ballroom show in Feb '08 remains one of my top 2 or 3 shows of all time. I saw the Gutter Twins 3 or 4 times in short succession, which is something I've never done with any other band.
I was always struck by what they said about each other and their friendship in interviews. This bond they shared was so powerful, touching, and inspiring to witness. I know I'll be in the minority here, but I far preferred seeing Mark live with Greg than without him. There was just this incredible chemistry and alchemy of two people who clearly not only shared a creative spark but a deep soul bond. It gave the shows a depth and power. And I just love the way their voices sound together.
Reading this poem fills in some of the blanks about what they shared, and the deep feeling that comes from someone being there for you in your darkest hour, and you being there for them in theirs. So powerful. Thanks, Mark. Thanks, Greg. For what you were/are to each other and what you were/are to us.
