I mentioned this in random thoughts, but it needs more attention. Word is that former Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot during a show. There's no confirmed word yet on his condition.. but for any of you metalheads out there who are like me.. life without Dime isn't worth living!! I fucking grew up on Pantera and idolized all the videos. If Dime dies, my life will have no meaning!! All my hopes and best wishes go out to Dime tonight, I sincerely hope he makes it through this.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least five people died and two others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus, Ohio, nightclub on Wednesday night, television station WCMH reported.
The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.
Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, WCMH reported. The other band member's name was not released. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.
Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, the TV station reported.
Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.
WCMH reported that of the surviving victims, one person was in critical condition while the other was in fair condition. Several others were treated at the scene, suffering from various injuries.
Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, WCMH reported.
According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.
Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.
....FUck this all, man..

Gunman kills 2 at Ohio nightclub Police shoot suspect to death, witness says Thursday, December 9, 2004 Posted: 1:27 AM EST (0627 GMT)
(CNN) -- A gunman opened fire Wednesday night during a heavy metal concert in Columbus, Ohio, killing at least two people -- including one member of the band -- and wounding at least three others, according to a Columbus Fire Department spokeswoman.
The gunman was shot and killed by police, according to an eyewitness account.
The fire department responded to the shooting around 10:20 p.m. ET at the Alrosa Villa nightclub on the city's north end.
Witnesses told CNN affiliate WSYX the shooting during a performance by Damageplan, a heavy metal group with two former members of Pantera.
Calvin Bota said he saw the shooting from the mosh pit right in front of the stage, shortly after the band began playing.
"Somebody came -- I don't know where they came from, out of the audience or whatnot -- but they come onto (the) stage and ... he shot the guitarist at first, fired a couple of other shots, and then he hid behind the stage a little bit," Bota told WSYX.
"Everybody started scattering, you know, there's mayhem everywhere. And then a police officer came into the building, you know, came in professional with his gun raised, and then he proceeded to shoot the guy."
Dimebag Darrell, 38, plays guitar for Damageplan and Pantera -- a group he formed with his brother Vinnie Paul in the 1980s. Darrell's father is Jerry Abbott, a country and western songwriter and producer.
Gerald Caudill told WSYX he saw the gunman shoot the guitarist several times.
"I was up close to the stage and I just saw some guy run up on the side of the stage and I heard some shots and I saw (drummer) Vinnie Paul and somebody jumped on top of Vinnie and the guy just stayed around the stage and started shooting other people," Caudill said.
"I saw wounded people all over the place, out in the parking lot, inside," he said. "It just didn't sound like gunshots or anything, it didn't occur to me that something like that was happening."

"The man in the jersey climbed onto the stage, started yelling and shot the guitarist five or six times at close range, Couch said. Couch said the gunman also shot a bouncer who pulled him off the musician."

This is fucking unreal, man. Seems pretty insane to for me to get so emotional over someone I've never even met, but.. I just grew up with Pantera.. and especially through the home videos, they made it feel like he was one of your close buddies, you know.
If that isn't bad enough, I have a friend who allegedly slit his wrist after hearing the news. Last I heard from him, he was being taken off in an ambulance.
In any case... R.I.P. Dime.. you were a friend and inspiration to millions, and will be greatly missed by every one of your fans.

It´s late, im tired, my tribute for now.. it´s put all pantera records on shuffle. I don´t have words, he is dead. discussions.elektra.com/wm-damageplan/messages/?msg=6238

Ok, ok, the joke went a little too far. We did all this just to see who our true fans were, and I think we can now say we have some pretty loyal fans, and some pretty scummy people on this earth. Dime Bag isn't dead, no-one got hurt. It was a publicity stunt (which worked fairly well I must add) Please no harsh feelings against the band, or against the fans. Dime bag is going to be on MTV's breaking news at 7:00 this morning letting everyone in on the incident. Please don't panic, but please, keep spreading the rumors and gossip, we need this thing to get so completely huge that everyone out there will hear the name "Damage Plan"

If this last post is true I truly hope that they fucking never get heard by anyone. They are odviously not good enough to make it on talent and if Pantera are anything to go by that doesn't surprise me. If he is dead it is a bad state of affairs.

They were scheduled to perform here in Detroit tonight. I can't say I was much of a fan, but that's really fucked up. I also feel bad for those poor fans who were killed and all they wanted to do was enjoy the gig like everyone else. At least the gunman is dead, bastard.

I mean it was not a knife, it was a god damn gun. That's because he didn't go past security. He jumped a fence and got in through the back of the club, then coming from the back entrance of the stage and heading straight for Dimebag and Vinnie. They said it seemed like he had a grudge against 'em for some reason...The gunman was also holding someone hostage before the cop killed him. As a concert-goer (which I'm sure includes all of us), it's just scary and sad.

I know there has been a tremendous war of words between the Abbott Brothers and Phil Anselmo and good ole Phil was even quoted very recently (like around the 2nd of december as saying Darrell should be severely beaten and that they (Darrell and Vinnie) were the reason the band broke up blah blah blah......I bet Phil wishes he could take that one back.
The scary thing is this could happen to anyone....Mark included and somebody was not doing their job on the security staff, the back door to the stage should not be left open or unlocked so someone can just stroll in and do something like this, and this may be an unpopluar thing to say but fans do not belong on the stage under any circumstances, and I do know many bands encourage people to "break down the barriers" and get up on stage, but people get hurt and die from jumping off the stage and either hitting the floor or landing on some innocent bystander who happens to be in the way and killing or paralyzing them in the process.
Regardless of how or why it happened the music world has lost one of the most incredibly gifted guitarists of our generation and truly a very nice, humble, down to earth mothafucka.
