Alcoholism and drug addictions aren't illnesses. Some people believe they are. Some people use their alcoholism and drug addiction as an excuse for what they do and sometimes people will do things that lack control because they're drunk or on drugs. I think for the most part it becomes their sickness, because the lack of control over it. I don't think a person who has been sexually abused becomes the abuser because of the circumstances, I think they do those acts because they want to.

Psychologically, drug addiction is a MASSIVE barrier to overcome. It can be viewed as an illness of sort. But yes, people do use it to their advantage I think. Have a few drinks, run someone over, it's vehicular manslaughter. You could have done it on purpose and you could still get out of murder 1 for vehicular manslaughter. It can still be a harsh sentence, but you'd still get off easy. And no, being abused doesn't make you want to go out and abuse people. That's bull. Being abused makes you see the horror and experience it. If you can know what it's like and go out and do it, then there's something wrong with you. If a woman is raped, does she go out and sexually assault others? I've never heard of such a thing. There aren't any huge differences in our brains, there are no excuses.

If a woman is raped, does she go out and sexually assault others? I've never heard of such a thing. I have. Plenty of times. I could tell you about a 17 year old girl sentenced to 1,5 years of treatment in juvenile detention. She was raped by her father from the age of 2 onwards. She was sentenced for raping her 8 year old brother. I could tell you about a 20 year old woman, raped when she was 14, sentenced to 1 year after she was seen raping her little baby brother. I could tell you about a 17 year old girl. She was found guilty of rape two years ago. She spent the past 2 years in juvenile detention and is now here for treatment. She has a history of abuse, by both her father and her uncle. She is trying very hard to deal with her anger and is doing well in therapy. You don't have to agree with me on my thoughts. I just think there is no easy black or white answer to this subject. I never said offenders have the right to hurt other people, i never said all offenders are sorry for what they did and i never said offenders are sound of mind. That is what makes this a tricky discussion.

i know that's my point really. I worked at a juvenile detention centre/treatment facility for 6 years, and at my current job (psychiatry) i also work with victims, offenders and victim/offenders. So i do see the other side to the main stories. I take it we both know a bit more about this than we would have wanted. That sucks (y0)

quite honestly I could give a flying fuck what the "reason" or the "motivation" for commiting such a horrible crime is, it sounds more like bullshit excuses to me. You rape and kill a 10 year old girl or an 80 year old woman......your DEAD, I guess it is pretty black and white to me, I dont wanna understand, I dont wanna hear excuses, I wanna see someone be accountable for the things they do, I wanna see people hold others accountable for what they do, I am so sick and tired of people getting off due to insanity, I am sick and tired of 5 years "rehabilitation" and the fuckers start doing it all over again, it seems these fuckers have more rights than the average citizen these days, they have become another "minority" that needs to be "protected" You are right in that yes of course some people have had terrible up bringings, some people are not blessed to have had a normal childhood, but when you cross that line thats when YOUR accountability starts.......
