A brand new QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE track, entitled "Era Vulgaris", was reportedly released in a special package sent to fans who won a secret competition on the QOTSA forum. The song, which will not appear on the group's upcoming full-length CD of the same name, features a guest appearance by NINE INCH NAILS frontman Trent Reznor. Listen to the track online at this location. www.myspace.com/thevulgareraQUEENS OF THE STONE AGE have set June 12 as the release date for the band's fifth studio album, "Era Vulgaris". The CD, which was previewed at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas last month, will feature 11 new songs and guest appearances from STROKES singer Julian Casablancas and former QUEENS vocalist Mark Lanegan. Michael Shuman of the Los Angeles act WIRES ON FIRE is reportedly the new QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE bassist. The band has been without a permanent bass player since the dismissal of Nick Oliveri in 2004. "Era Vulgaris" follows up 2005's "Lullabies to Paralyze". "Era Vulgaris" track listing: 01. Turning on the Screw 02. Sick, Sick, Sick 03. I'm Designer 04. Into the Hollow 05. Misfit Love 06. Battery Acid 07. Make It Wit Chu 08. 3's & 7's 09. Suture Up Your Future 10. River in the Road 11. Wow - how similar!
Anyhoos - is that Mark playing acoustic on the "Feelgood..." live thingy? Looks like him on the little pink stool in the photo...

yeah, can start saying this sucks as bad as the last album? Sounds exactly the same. I can only hope that it was left off the album for this very reason...

To appreciate this music, I think you need to feel that Josh is the coolest man alive. The thing is, he's a prick. He should focus less on acting cool and work on writing quality music. Back to basic..
Now I'm off to forget that I heard Trent sing on this song. It didn't even sound like Trent.. (good beginning)

From Rolling Stone (Smoking Section):
...The next night in LA, we hooked up with the Queens, on the night they celebrated the completion of Era Vulgaris. (The cut "Make It Wit Chu" shall be the summer hookup jam.) Their fearless leader, Josh Homme, also enjoys the Hold 'Em - he hosts a home game or plays the Hustler Casino - but that night we hit Hollywood hole La Velvet Margarita Cantina, where he and his lovely wife, Distillers singer Brody Dalle, shot tequila...Ironically, Dave Grohl told us he thought the new Queens sound like "a nice, tall, cold mush-garita" - a margarita with shrooms - and went on to tell the S.S. that the new Foo album is coming along dopely.

I can't stand it when artists re-record good songs to give them a spot on another album. Treble Charger did it with Red, Chris Cornell with Flutter Girl, and now QOTSA with Make it Witchu. I'm sure there's lots of other good examples too. I guess the new Kingdoms of Rain is okay, but it is still a pet peeve of mine when artists do this.
