well, im not one to moan... but i'll tell it like it was...
last night's show was just not very good. in MY opinion.
the band came on stage at 10.25pm... which is VERY late for a headline act in this country. 9 - 9.30 is the norm... by this time the crowd were unhappy at having waited around for at least an hour more than they were expecting. bad vibes. bad vibes from mark and the crowd.
the sound was best described as mushy. not enough groove or dynamic, and a big fat wall of noisy rhythm guitar. which was just noise. unless it stops once in awhile it has no impact.
someone shouted for hanging tree. a guy shouting for 'Ivy' was met with a sarcastic (and disgusted) 'that's some other band' ... lighting = close to total darkness. just backlit.
strange crowd. quite a few 'kids' and quite a few old people... bizarre.
setlist -
when your number
hit the city
wedding dress
creeping coastline
no easy action
miracle
one hundred days
sideways in reverse
one way street
come to me
resurrection song - horrible. mark badly struggling with the vocal. maybe the monitors were bad, but he was all over the place on this song.
driving death valley
i'll take care - excellent vocal. sounded good.
little willie john - band = bad, mark = good.
skeletal hist - best song of the night.
meth blues
encore:
sleep with me - good.
pendulum - unexpected and good.
fix - pretty good, mark disappeared and left the band to finish it...
i tried to pick up a setlist from the stage, but someone (presumably stage manager) told the roadie not to give any of them out (one had already been given to someone though). basically, just a bad vibe all the way through the evening. that's my opinion on the whole thing. mark looked like he didnt really wanna be there. the 300ish people there who'd paid about £10 each probably DID want to be there.
raeni has mentioned constructive criticism is the only viable criticism for this forum... so my comment would be - Mark and the band should video one of these shows, with the sound like it was, and then be forced to watch and listen to the whole thing (in the same way sportsmen/women look back on their performances).
bring on The Gutter Twins. preferably with a band comprising most of the current twilight singers live band.
