I've heard all of "Baby, "One More Time", "Oops, I Did IT Again", and her remix CD. ive made it quite clear that the only complete piece of work of britney's that i have said i rate is the new album. which is, a lovely, futurist pop album.

I've heard all of "Baby, "One More Time", "Oops, I Did IT Again", and her remix CD. that's like judging Mark Lanegan's recent work on Clairvoyance and Sleep With Me (Version).

Mokkly, where is your sense of humour... gone ? ah, there's little point in this thread because no one can open their mind enough to think differently about anything, even for a moment.

I personally do not think cobain is this godlike figure alot of folks make him out to be......discuss well, i think he hit a nerve with a lot of people. i think the staying power of his appeal speaks volumes. the unplugged 'where did you sleep last night?' absolutely kills the Lanegan version, in my opinion. that look, and that intake of breath before he finishes it,.. it still gives me chills every single time i hear it or see it. he had such artistic sincerity, and such resonance with people. again, his power and appeal is partly (as i mentioned earlier) based on his success and his story. but i cant think of a single artist before or since that had that sort of power and so much emotional resonance. artistically, i dont know where he could've gone next- he was clearly bored with Nirvana's quiet verse / loud chorus sound... but In Utero is an incredibly powerful piece of work, and the undisputed (surely??) brilliance Nirvana's Unplugged session (the best of all the unpluggeds by a country mile) might have been a glimpse into an interesting future that could've followed a bit of a Neil Young blueprint (stepping between acoustic/quiet and rock/loud for whole albums/tours).. the work with William Burroughs, the talk of collaborating with the likes of Stipe, Lanegan, Arm, Mascis etc... suggests that he was considering moves in the direction Lanegan has taken. Cobain was very much interested in changing and moving forward too.. who knows. i feel sad that he is a martyr/hero for a bunch of people he probably would fucking hate, and doesnt get to tell people who don't really get it to 'fuck off and listen to someone else', which he was quite happy to do when alive.

in summary- the 'godlike' stuff is hard to swallow.
but he's truly important, he was very good, and the most passionate performer i can think of. i think that Neil Young quote a page or 2 back is pretty good- about him holding absolutely nothing back, and how that openness is part of what made him unable to deal with where he was and what he was doing. the guy put himself totally out there.

What bother's me is that radio DJs and others praise his "unrehearsed" solo version of Pennyroyal Tea. It is a terrible version of that song.

It is a terrible version of that song. oh. i actually love it. i think it is a million times better than the album version. i love the broken vocal.. i love when he goes ' mmm... i'm on warm milk..' because he forgets the lyrics for half a second. im really surprised you dont like that. it's one of my favourites from the unplugged, and it is so much better than the quiet/loud version on the album (Cobain himself was never happy with the album version, apparently). anyway, ive never heard it on any radio station ever. and ive not really heard anyone praise it, other than friends.

I've heard local DJs discuss it. I don't mind it, but I'd like it a lot better if he played it right, and got the lyrics right. Even Dave Grohl made fun of hmi after that.
Dave: "That sounded good" Kurdt: "Shutup!"
My favorite version is the acoustic version on the Box Set.

"show me a more 'punk rock' moment in popular culture in the last decade..."
Is it really punk when you shave your head so they can't take DNA samples to prove you are on drugs to take your kids away?
