I can't wait for this, say what you will but people need to let Layne go and let the band move on.

I'll definitely be checking this out but it's on the icky side, I'm sorry but it's just not Alice in Chains to me. I'm not saying the band should write off it's back catalogue just because one member did something really stupid but Layne was a defining point. This is NOT the same band

Cantrell already did a lot of the writing and singing, so no complaints from me.

this still feels just..not...good. the songwriting will be decent, sure, but layne was way too crucial a part of AIC for me to really put much faith in this.

i will download it ;D and if its good I will buy it, I listened to long gone day with lanegan and I got all sentimental about staley, but yes its a new album give it a chance

I don't think its too big of a deal with them keeping their old name...AC/DC comes to mind immediately...a rose by any other name is still a rose...has anyone 20 years old or younger ever even HEARD of alice in chains?...If Soundgarden reformed without Chris Cornell, you would not hear me complain one bit!

we had this discussion many moons ago, and my opinion is unchanged.......let Duvall be himself and it may turn out quite good, should guns and roses change its name since axl is the only one left? what if Layne had been fired from the band? would it be ok for them to press on as AIC then?

I wonder if Mokkly likes Alice In Chains i like alice in chains on Dirt, and the acoustic EPs of that sort of era. and unplugged. AIC dont exist anymore. we've had this discussion a month or 2 ago. be serious. it's cabaret without Layne.

not the greatest band ever, just the most important and influential. everyone else is standing on the shoulders of giants. (oh, and my post about AIC is on the previous page..)

SAP and Jar of Flies have a quality that their first two regular albums (while I love and still listen to them both) do not have.
If Jerry was just trying to cash in on the name he would not have waited years to put out another full length LP. I think that at this point if it is good it will sell and not just because of the name.

If Jerry was just trying to cash in on the name he would not have waited years to put out another full length LP... i disagree. he didnt just wait years. of course it's a cash-in. he tried a solo career which seemingly subsided into total public disinterest, and then he decided to reform AIC because a) he couldnt maintain a solo career and b) he knows he has no hope of launching a new project that would garner half as much publicity or interest as his old band. fair enough. so, for commercial purposes, and to gain a record contract and exposure, he chose to use the name which worked many years ago and has a fanbase sitting there waiting. a fanbase who are now in their 30s/40s and looking for some 1990s 'grunge' nostalgia because they cant cope with new music and changing fashions/styles. a huge part of grunge was about young 'generation x' types getting rid of the old guard of boring shitty rock and commercial pap and injecting punk spirit into popular music. now these guys are the old guard, living on former glories, playing the hits and doing the kind of horrible reunions and crass 'dead friend replaced with new guy' moneymaking comebacks that they were such a fantastic reaction against all those years ago.simple fact- 'Jerry Cantrell' doesnt sell as well as 'Alice In Chains'. 'Jerry Cantrell' doesnt generate as much interest, profit, ticket sales, conversation and nostalgia as 'Alice In Chains'. there is no relevance in this project. it adds a sad, distasteful footnote to a once-great band. move on. for some reason, this whole thing sickens me to the very core of my being. it's like The fucking Doors doing shows with whatever current knobhead sounds/looks a bit like Jim Morrison. RAAAAAAAAARGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!

I think mark should be the new singer, because then it would be somebody n it would be a legit band and not some silly cash grab I say give it a chance, if it sucks it sucks, if it does not, most of you will not even admit that

Yes, it wasnt that good, but the sound was awful, at least the clip I heard. But the same can be said about Layne singing Screaming Trees stuff, its just not the same as when Mark did it.
