Dear lord - The Patronaat Houserules, well some of them... - you are at all times obliged to follow the instructions of Patronaat staff - have valid identification on you, when in doubt about your age access will be denied - you can be searched, work with us and follow instructions - once you leave the premises, return entry will only be allowed if you buy a new ticket - food, drink, glasses or plastic cups will not be allowed in, or out - no drinking (non)alcohol on the steps of the building - no loitering around the building I had no idea i was about to enter a POW-facility This had better be fucking good.

and if greg tells you to stop talking Y00 BETTER STOP TALKING THERE BUBBLES !! i will be afraid to fuckin BREATHE How are these rules different form any other gig you go to? I hardly ever go to gigs and i only really know the Paradiso and Milkyway in Amsterdam and Tivoli in Utrecht. I have been going to these venues since the early 80's when regulations weren't nearly as strict as they are now. I checked the Patronaat for possible rules on weed-smoking and was amazed to read how harsh they are. Seriously, step outside and you can't get back in unless you buy a NEW ticket? What if all i want to do is fill up the parking metre or answer a call on my mobile? Fookin hell

Ah and the rest of yous have fun too and Shoney see you there I thought we had a pact of secretly glancing at random people and wondering if we just recognised eachother. (Dutch people, and especially social workers, aren't social. hihi) I don't know if this is also a seated venue, I guess so. Just wondering. Edit: Vlaardingen?! Wow.. you should've left home yesterday.

i had a feeling you were standing next to me at one time.. funny shit! You saw me? The concert was unbelievable and it's been a joy to look at those guys perform. They really did their best and there's nothing bad to say about what they did. Mark looked very comfortable on stage and it was so funny to see him trying not to smile too much. He had to work hard on that cus Greg did his best to make him laugh. It wasn't a seated show btw! I hope the rest of the shows are for your sake, cus it got a bit noisy with all the people going to the bar and I noticed that there was quite some noize coming from the balconies or the back of the venue. Maybe they thought they couldn't be heared up front.

Okie so back to the Patronaat gig. 1. Haarlem is a beautiful city - or so they say. I couldn't tell what with the absolute shite weather, it was pissing down so hard i didn't dare look up at buildings and stuff. Instead of shopping mr. Lungs and i decided to go to a proper restaurant for a proper meal instead. The Popuwhatsit mexican restaurant is good. Coffeeshops in abundance but we didn't go in and i ended up at the venue sober as a judge. 2. Venue itself - i wasn't impressed. It lacked atmosphere and it was impossible to chill somewhere in a corner. No seating here, and quite literally no chairs, benches, anything to sit on except the floor and steps. Not very comfortable at all. I like to lay my head down every now and again and lose myself in the music but that was a no-no. Drinks were okay, bars were easily accessed etc, toilets clean blah blah, not bad. 3. There were numerous posters mentioning photography. From what i saw they said something about the artists requesting no photography, i couldn't tell if it was just flashlights that were forbidden. I didn't get close enough to properly read the posters, or perhaps i couldn't care enough. Before the gig some trendy bastard came on and specifically requested no flash photography and said that the artists will leave the stage when flash photography gets to be too much. I noticed 2 flashes going off, not bad and apparently Dulli agreed. 4. Setlist i guess was much like the Hassalt one? I didnĀ“t keep a tracklist, i wasn't sure pens and paper were allowed in at the Patronaat 5. Now musically - i don't mean to bitch. Really i don't. I am not a Dulli person, but i try to be fair. I felt his voice was too loud and he sort of lost it tune-wise on several songs. Perhaps i just don't like his voice and that is why i notice the little flaws and what not. But it has to be said: Lanegan didn't mess up one single line and Dulli did. Okay Lanegan almost lost one tiny bit but he quickly recovered from it and i doubt many people noticed. His voice was amazing, really fuckin amazing. Loved every minute of it. 6. A sold-out venue with a good crowd. I agree with Shoney, people did talk quite a bit on the balcony anyway. There were 2 guys standing not far away from where i was and they did annoy me at times. But i was more pissed off with the couple trying to squeeze into a 1 foot space next to me, pushing me and slowly trying to conquer what was my little area. As you all know, i am a friendly person and violence is beneath me. I did not deck the guy and throw the girl off the balcony. In hindsight, i should have. 7. Shoney's hair looked really cool and she was wearing those brutal sneakers she posted about a while back ;D 8. I was on the balcony and never stood next to Shoney. However i did pass her on the stairs afterwards. 9. Who was the guy underneath the balcony who waved at me and tried to have a conversation with me by mimicking words i never got? 10. The end.

Holy shit, that wasn't you?! There was this lady standing next to me and she kept grinning at me. And at one point she shielded her eyes with her hand in a 'I'm not looking'-kinda way. Which seemed very normal if you'd read my post about glancing but not approaching before going to the gig. But.. that wasn't you. She must've been stoned, so she must've been you hahahah. Nice shoes ey?! Too bad I looked like shit.

(i should point out that the library is pub, not a library) You didn't. However, me & Thalia did see you walking up towards the Chapel with someone who I presume wasn't Mrs Mokkly, but you turned round and went to the boozer before I could get my feet to work (it was a bit cold out there and we'd been stodd there for a while already). We also think that we might have possibly seen Maryh (if indeed that was her pretty much right near the front of the queue), although much of the time outside was spent trying to point Breakerfall in the direction of "the big shiny clock in the sky". And we also said howdy to Flyingv We should do this again sometime. But sort of organised. It's a miracle any of us get to meet anyone else ;D

im not good at 'organised'.
yeah, i was with a friend. we took one look at the queue, at about 6.10ish(??), and turned around. just wanted to make sure we knew where it was, really. we still managed to get on the 4th or 5th row, on the Dulli (stage right) side. not bad seeing as we didn't return until 7.15 or so, having had a couple of drinks and met the others. i wish id jumped in on the Reserved rows.. but thought i might've looked a bit stupid if 'the reserved people' turned up... and id have ended up at the back.
as for people... well... i saw nobody. and nothing. that's my story, and im sticking with it.
foz got to see my winter coat and new scarf. what a treat.

It was indeed. And as we were also sat on the pew (fucking love saying that about the gig. And mentioning the mugs of tea. Most civilised night out ever) right in front of the Reserved one*, you were right near us again - although we were almost smack in the middle towards the right. We're like two solids that pass in the night...
*Reserved presumably for journalists who didn't fecking show up, which is a bit twatty considering that a bunch of people couldn't get tickets

ah, we were in the block of pews on stage right, not the centre ones..
'Reserved'. maybe it was for people who feel reserved. perhaps it was a psychological social experiment to see if reserved people would dare to sit in those pews.
maybe not.
quite frankly, we'll never know. unless we ask. in which case, we will. possibly.

Oooh - and I also saw someone I recognised from LastFM, although it was a friend of a friend and so if I had said "hello, you're that woman off the internet, arent't you?", that would have been a bit weird. Although I have been known to do this sort of thing before.
