whats with this crap? are these people to chickenshit to stick their neck and reputation on the line and actually PERFORM? This really bugs the crap out of me, Jennifer Hudson and Faith Hill both lip synched their songs before the super bowl last sunday. I was still asleep so I missed the start. If you cant pull it off live on the biggest stage in america then DON'T DO IT !!!!!!!!!
Jennifer Hudson lip-synched
Hudson turned in a powerful performance of the national anthem at Super Bowl XLIII. Initial reviews were good. And then reports surfaced that Hudson had lip-synched. Who could blame her? It was, after all, her first public appearance since her mother, brother and nephew were slain. Which raises a question: Why did Faith Hill, who followed Hudson on stage, lip-synch her rendition of "America the Beautiful"?
Before we rush to judge these divas, previous Super Bowl national anthem singers have done the same. Turns out, the NFL requires that the prerecorded tracks be submitted one week prior to the event, to hedge against technical difficulties during the live broadcast.
(It's a policy the San Diego Padres could have used when Roseanne Barr took the mic in 1990. Remember that?)
Some assisted "Star Spangled Banners" have been more successful than others. Take a listen and decide for yourself.

the idea is, you dont want to fuck up the big moment, so you take the easy option.
i dont mind a bit of lip sync'ing, to be honest.... IF it's the sort of song that is as much about the dance routine and physical performance.
i say go for it.
but if you're going for the big vocal - you better fucking go for it.
let's face it, most pop music is not about how good someone is at singing. it's about a decent beat, new/exciting sounds, and a melody that people find is stuck in their head.
apologies for the serial comma before the 'and'. but not really. i like them, and i find they help with my sentence structure (there, i did it again, you see?).

It's annoying when they do it, but the nature of celebrity nowadays is to be seen but not necessarily heard live. It's not that new a concept either, as it's been the norm for UK TV for decades - there was a brief period in the early 1990s that flagship music show Top of the Pops insisted on at least the lead vocals be performed live in the studio, but that soon died on its arse when poular acts refused to appear if they couldn't mime, so ratings took a tumble.
It's probably all about selling ringtones these days anyway so it's no huge surprise when 'performers' (and their handlers) demand that their public sound is just as polished and airbrushed as their images are in the magazines.

Oh it bugs me too and it's a cop out. Be real and genuine. Makes you wonder though if it's all an illusion and that they really never sing live, because they can all sound like they do recorded.
Like Foz said it's all polished and airbrushed as their images in the magazines.
Then people like Mark who sing and put all their emotion into a live performance are never up there.

I believe Britney's latest tour is all lip synched. They leave the mics switched on tho, this was discovered when she announced to the the entire arena (after a rather vigorous dance routine) that her "pussy was hanging out"
