I am all for peoples rights, but unfortunately I could not agree more, its causing quite a stir around here lately. We have had 10 maulings in the last month or so around here and I am glad the state of oregon for once is doing something right.

And Oregano - although, like the rest of the USA, they have yet to pronounce it correctly.

Pitbulls have been banned over here for quite some time. Not the dogs' fault, as they have been bred specifically to be a bad-tempered solid muscle with teeth, but they are also unfortunate in that they tend to be owned by the sort of people who want to make them even more bad-tempered...

Pitbulls have been banned in Ontario too, but there is a way for people to get them. They usually register them as a Staffordshire Terrior instead of American Pitbull.
I think these dogs are very dangerous, they seem like loving caring pets, but all of a sudden snap and maull people for no reason. I think all the related breeds are dangerous too, Rottwelillers and Mastiffs. My husband had a friend who had a Mastiff and when my son was about 2 years old he was outside and the dog was inside and all he did was walk past the screendoor and the dog attacked him, biting him on the shoulder. That dog bit several people after that on different occasions. My son was lucky, that's what I have to say.

Correction. The law covers all related dogs. I think alot of people were trying to use that loophole, but the provincial government clarified all types. "Under the provincial law, pit bulls are defined as American pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire bull terrier or any dog that looks similar." www.defend-a-bull.com/ontariopitbullban.html
