www.americansongwriter.com/2009/03/breeders-channel-bob-marley-on-new-ep/On April 14th, the Breeders will return with a new four-song EP, the follow-up to last year’s Mountain Battles. Dubbed Fate to Fatal, the EP features ex-Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan, who appears on the track “Last Time.” It also finds the Deal Sisters tackling Bob Marley’s chill-out masterpiece “Chances Are.” Kim Deal explained the songs’ appeal to Rolling Stone: “This was in the ’60s, when all the guys in Jamaica wanted to get laid they would do doo-wop,” she says. “It’s not reggae, I’m not doing a reggae song.” The Breeders are curating this year’s All Tommorow’s Parties festival in England in mid-May, where they’ve booked Gang of Four, Deerhunter, X, and Teenage Fanclub.

Not the EP that's out now (although that's absolutely no reason not to own it), but on the upcoming album which I think is due to be squeezed out on June 9. Joseph Arthur's on it too.

more detail from Rolling Stone: "As for the Lanegan cameo on “The Last Time,” Deal says it came together after a conversation in her basement with the guy she brought in to run her Pro Tools setup. “He was telling me that the Lanegan solo record Bubblegum was really good. And I said, that’s a weird name for a Lanegan record. That conversation resonated in my brain, because I thought it’d be great to have a male vocal on this.”

Mark is busy as always which is good, I'm hoping he's able to start working on his solo stuff soon though with all that he has going on. Either way, it's great that he's involved in so many projects for 09, and we're only 3 months into the new year.

Offical site (?) If they are only pressing 1,000 copies I think it's likely that it won't make it to stores, they'll probably only do direct sales. OT: Anyone else hear Kim Deal on NPR the other day?

21st. 1000 12" vinyl copies only as part of Record Store Day, or download. Anyone in Cincinatti on the 18th however can pop into the (so everyone tells me) wonderful Shake It Records store where it will not only be on sale early, but the band will also be there to sign them for you. Note on the EP artwork: Art is by Chris Glass, who sells Kelley Deal's scarves on his site, and the covers are hand-screened by the sisters.

"Pitchfork: You also have a song on which Mark Lanegan sings lead. Kelley: I know. It's a controversial decision. One of our friends says, "Why is this guy on a Breeders song?" We have a version of it with Kim singing it. And when Kim said she was going to get Mark Lanegan, I was thinking he'd do a verse and she'd do a verse, thinking it might be a two-person thing, but she just got him to sing the whole thing. She's saying it didn't really lend itself to that he'll take a verse, she'll take a verse, they'll sing the chorus together thing. It's too goth. Doesn't he sound like a serial killer? Honestly, it makes you think. I'm not getting near the man's trunk of his car." from Pitchfork interview

Not sure if anyone else has been struggling to find a copy of this, but it seems like it's hard work. I've tried local indies in San Francisco, neither if which have it listed on their system for Monday - one of them said they may have it, but I don't feel like taking the risk. The good folk at Shake It do mail order, so I have just ordered over the phone. $10.99+postage). Thought I'd share, in case.... www.shakeitrecords.com/Shakeit-store.html
