Just started thinking about this... I know there is no official Lanegan policy although I'm pretty sure he is listed on the Bands That Allow Taping website, and I know Gutter Twins did NOT allow taping offically for whatever reason but were not completely anti. What about soulsavers?
Who would be the best to contact before the gig? If taping is allowed I'd prefer to bring my full rig, mic stand ect. If they don't allow taping Lanegan is the one person I can just sit back and enjoy and not feel bad about not having a recording of it.
thanks

I haven't heard an official policy- check with your venue.

I haven't heard an official policy- check with your venue. The venue will say no every time just to be safe, won't they?

I haven't heard an official policy- check with your venue. The venue will say no every time just to be safe, won't they? Not always but most of the time in Canada. They won't know soulsavers policy until the day of the show though. It's not like bands fax out their taping policies when they announce tours. Probably 90-98% of the time it's a hassle with the venue. However if there is a taping policy or if at least I can get an okay from the band or someone who can speak for them in writing it's usually okay. I taped eagles of death metal at the mod club last year and I seem to remember there being no problems walking in with a mic stand and full rig. That being said I wouldn't try anything without an official yes. My days of sneaking in gear to record concerts are basically over. I am however really excited to finally see soulsavers and would be pretty disappointed not to be able to relisten to the show again and archive it. I would just like to get an official yes, or an official no as soon as possible. I'd be greatful for any help. If taping is allowed I will of course post a torrent of the show shortly after like I do with most of my recordings.

I got a reply on their myspace that they don't allow taping. A real bummer. It really saddens me when I can't relisten to great shows.

It's probably labels reply so why bother? Perhaps my point of view would change if I would be a taper too but I can't understand it now... people do stealth all the time, fans appreciate it, bands don't fight with it, everyone is happy.

Nobody allows taping, that's why they called bootlegs.

It's probably labels reply so why bother? If the answer came from the soulsavers' myspace, I doubt that it's the label's reply.

Nobody allows taping, that's why they called bootlegs. Lots of bands do. I'm pretty sure Lanegan solo shows are open taping, never been so lucky to see him solo though. It's sad the only time I could tape him was when he was Queens of The Stone Age who are very accomidating to tapers. I used to stealth tape from time to time but it makes me nervous and I honestly do not like to go against a bands wishes, however I would like them to at least hear the tapers side of the argument. Other then selling which almost never happens in this day and age with bit torrent and shows being available free sometimes hours after they happen. I don't see how it can hurt a band. I don't want to sneak tiny micorphones in and have to have them taped to my body when I have a perfectly good mic stand and better equipment sitting at home. I own the albums. I'll buy a shirt, poster and the official live album at the show, I just want to be able to listen to the show again whenever I feel like it since I have a feeling it will be a night I'd never want to forget. I'd also like to share it freely with anyone else who either was there or would simply like to experience the live sound.

I last tried to tape Mark back in '98 at a Portland show. I had permission from a member of his band so I got my DAT plugged into the soundboard. Everything was going great till the encore. His manager came back to the board and asked the soundguy, "what was this DAT doing here!?" The soundguy pointed him over to me and I got an earful about how "No ONE EVER tapes Lanegan!!" and then he unplugged me right during his last song. I got to keep the DAT (its great by the way) but have never tried to tape him again.

If it was a good show I want the memory to last forever. Sure some things you never forget, but lots you do very quickly. I am also big on archiving events.

No ONE EVER tapes Lanegan! That's a good one : ) Anyway, after seeing them live I think Soulsavers are really serious about no taping. I saw security pulling quite a few people for recording with some cameras. Anyway, we fortunately got much recordings from other collaborations, so that's bad only for Soulsavers themselves, because such policy won't give them more fans for sure.
