It seems like on The Winding Sheet he had more involvement but I could be way off. Can anyone help me out on this one?

you're just confused because there are less musicians on The Winding Sheet than there are on Bubblegum.

I think Johnson was more or less responsible for the music on most of those......wasn't he ?

ok lets see, based on interviews and album credits:
The Winding Sheet is "words by Mark Lanegan music by Mark Lanegan and Mike Johnson"
Whiskey For The Holy Ghost has lots of people and lots of producers but less direct Johnson involvement, because he bailed out of the project for a while in the middle (though he does play on every song)
Scraps At Midnight was Mike's IDEA and was done fairly quickly with his thumb in the pudding the whole while.
now, Field Songs was apparently 'more Ben Shepard than Mike Johnson'
and all the albums are "produced by Mark Lanegan and so -and-so", right?

d00ds, he plays guitar on Bombed!
He plays on some songs on The Winding Sheet and WFTHG, but I don't think he does on Scraps or Field Songs. He also played guitar on the last Screaming Trees album.
And he played violin on the first Screaming Trees album....

Mark plays guitar better than he'll ever admit. Everything he writes is usually on acoustic first then handed off to whoever he's working with at the time for improvements, fills, and solos. a classic example, go to 'Whiskey' and play Shooting Gallery. Mark's playing is actually on guitar track #1 and then overlayed with additional guitar tracks (e.g. the killer, stripped down blues-scale fills courtesy of Mr Johnson.....)
and why all the fuckin' obsession with my real identity. who cares man. i'm just prowlin' 'round and makin' sure you're all being good little kids.

I guess what I was trying to ask was whether or not he wrote the music as well as the lyrics. That's all I'm asking, my friends.

Well, then, he does write music. He starts the songs. Then lets musicians he has good faith in elaborate upon them.

you don't know about Wiki? edit it, man! I've edited the Lanegan page before. Some funny person just edited the Screaming Trees page to include a comparison to the Allman Brothers (um, yuck?). I'm contemplating deleting that.

edit it before it becomes a fucking joke (an it will, in a few years when wankers discover they can just trash shit)
also, make sure you mention the influence of satan, cause he doesn't get enough props, yo.
