A brand new track from from the upcoming self-titled STONE TEMPLE PILOTS album, "Hickory Dichotomy", is being streamed on Amazon.com. Each week leading up to the CD's release, a new single will be available for your listening pleasure. A deluxe version of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' new self-titled album with expanded artwork and two bonus tracks will be available on the May 25 street date. Target will be given a CD/DVD version of the set with exclusive interview content, and Walmart will air an exclusive STP performance in stores and on its Soundcheck web site. The group's self-titled sixth album is its first all-new effort since 2001's "Shangri-La-Dee-Da". The self-titled effort features the following track listing: 01. Between The Lines 02. Take A Load Off 03. Huckleberry Crumble 04. Hickory Dichotomy 05. Dare If You Dare 06. Cinnamon 07. Hazy Daze 08. Bagman 09. Peacoat 10. Fast As I Can 11. First Kiss On Mars 12. Maver The disc will be issued through Atlantic Records, although Weiland told The Pulse of Radio at the time of the band's 2008 reunion tour that he was interested in exploring other options outside the traditional music industry. "When we first talked about putting STP back together, it was do this tour and then see about doing a creative deal with another company, like an all-in deal," he said. "And, you know, if you look at even like RADIOHEAD and a handful of other bands, they make more money doing things in an unconventional fashion as opposed to doing it, you know, with the major labels." STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunited in 2008 after a six-year layoff. The band's last album, "Shangri-La-Dee-Da", came out in 2001. STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will be featured on VH1's "Friday Night Alright" concert series on Friday, May 21 at 11:00 p.m. The performance footage was filmed on March 27, 2010 at Chicago's Riviera Theatre. "Friday Night Alright" is described as a music fan's passport to first-class rock and pop music concerts in HD from around the world. "'Friday Night Alright' [is] the premiere destination for concerts on television — a different show featuring an A-list artist every week, driven by the excitement of arm-waving, foot-stomping audiences," said Ben Zurier, Executive Vice President, Program Strategy for VH1. "The series literally covers the globe to present the best artists, and the best-produced concerts." According to Billboard.com, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS has several TV appearances lined up around its new album's release — including NBC-TV's "Late Show With David Letterman" (May 19) and ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (May 25) — and it's scheduled for Howard Stern's Sirius Satellite Radio show May 18. www.amazon.com/Stone-Temple-Pilots/e/B000ARC4TI

I'm going to see STP and AIC at the DC101 Chili Cookoff on May 22nd. Should be a good show if Weiland doesn't show up loaded. I have full faith in the AIC boys though--they always put on a killer show.

At first, I thought you said... 'I feel his kids.' Which would be slightly more concerning.

Hmmm, i am a long time Pilots fan but this CD is not grabbing me yet... As for the sober/not sober part, i don't really care much about that. People have troubles, people deal with them their own way, when kids are involved it can be a very sad deal but either way, when you're no more than an average person listening to the music, you really don't know what's going on and most stuff you make your mind up about is from hearsay only.
I'll spin that cd a few more times before deciding if i like it or not.

I got no problem with fucked up or sober, but when I pay money to see a show, you better fucking deliver, whedn you are sober and you cant do it.....well you prolly suck, when you are fucked up and you can't deliver, thats when I have a serious problem I have to agree with this. While I do not pass judgment on those with substance abuse problems (having known people with issues), if you're charging someone to see you perform, then yes you should try your hardest to deliver despite those issues. If you're aware that your issues will significantly damper the quality of your performance, then you should probably not be performing at all. STP is a good example. I'm not ashamed to admit on this board that I've enjoyed STP for years. Saw them during the summer of 2009, Weiland was sober and they all played phenomenally....no exaggeration, they really blew me away and I was pretty surprised. Then I went to see them again at the DC Chili Cookoff a few weeks ago. Weiland was drunk off his ass, fucking up/forgetting lyrics on just about every song, and you could tell it impacted the rest of the bands rhythm and flow. Needless to saw I was quite disappointed in them, namely Weiland, after spending way too much money on tickets and travel and standing out in the rain around a bunch of completely drunken redneck pricks. On the plus side AIC kicked serious ass that day (played before STP)...they had the crowd super pumped, much moreso than STP did, even with their new material. That was pretty damn cool.

I went to see STP and AIC in New Jersey a couple weeks ago and they were both amazing. It was great seeing these guys up close, I even caught a pic thrown by William Duvall. The highlight of the night was Scott inviting Jerry Cantrell on stage to play Sex Type Thing. Scott seemed completely sober there.

I'm glad you got to see Weiland on an "on" night - the man can still put on quite a show when he's sober, just as he did last year when I saw him. I bet seeing Cantrell play Sex Type Thing with the STP boys was a blast. Has anyone heard the new STP album? Thoughts? I have mixed feelings about the production, but overall I think it's a relatively solid effort after 9 years since SLDD. There seems to be a pretty mixed bag of opinions from fans...

I just got it and have only listened to it maybe 4-5 times, but I gotta say I like it. Some of the lyrics are weak. But all in all, it is better than I expected. And I think Scott sounds really good. I got the deluxe version, and live Vasoline in Chicago sounds sweet.

Thanks, Frankie! That took forever, but it was worth it. ;D Maybe they should have had Jerry on backing vocals--just a thought.
I have listened to the new one a few more times. Some of the songs that I didn't like at first are more listenable to me now. I skip Between the Lines. It sounds too nirvana-esque. I love First Kiss on Mars. And Scott sounds so good on Hazy Daze and Samba Nova. Now I am thinking I fucked up by not getting Pittsburgh tickets. I might have to support a scalper.
