I've just bought a ticket for Paris as I'll be in London on thhe 10th , I'm on holiday anyway so may as well carry on to Paris. How do I stop friends and family thinking I'm completely mad, especially as I saw Mark in Glasgow and London this year already.

Glasgow and London for me this time, yay! I really wanted to go to Paris too, but my husband is running out of days he is allowed out of the UK (stupid visa restrictions, grr!) and it would be far too mean to go to Paris without him. Especially as I've been there several times already and he's never been.

I just go this e-mail from someone. I don't know who but they must have got my email from my earlier attempts to visit Dutchland.
Babelfish couldn't make much sense of it but I'm pretty sure it generally says.
Isobel & Mark September 19th de Effenaar. Eindhoven, Dutchworld.
Lungsey your favourite!

It's looks like they are playing the Take Root Festival on September 18th in Groningen, the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It looks like it's a festival of American music with Wilco headlining along with Black Mountain representing Canada. And they are absolutely fantastic by the way. Isobel & Mark aren't confirmed on the festival website. It's not sold out yet and apparently it's at De Oosterpoort. I'm not sure what kind of venue that is.

Anyone know what's up with the Melkweg Oude Zaal membership requirement?

In order to attend a show at the Melkweg you have to purchase a membership for (I think) €3.50, which is valid for a month after purchase (so if you were to go see other shows there within a month, you wouldn't have to purchase another membership, just the tickets). You can either purchase it along with your tickets or get it at the venue when you get there.

Mainly because when smoking was banned in bars in Ontario there was a loophole in the law where 'private clubs' weren't prohibited from allowing smoking so all the dive bars and strip clubs started selling 'memberships' and continued to allow smoking. Our government put the kibosh on that fairly quick but I was curious if that was why the Melkweg required a membership. I should also mention ticketmaster.nl lists Willy Mason as the support for the Melkweg show.

Ah, right, sorry! No I think it's just to make money. There's no circumventing the smoking ban like that. I saw Mark with Soulsavers at the Melkweg last year and you definitely weren't 't allowed to smoke there anymore (although some people did it anyway, including one of the band members).

I finally got a reply from the festival's organizers if anyone else was wondering. The festival has 4 stages. Two of them are standing areas only, one is standing and non-fixed seated. The singer-songwriter stage is completely non fixed-seated. By the way, thanks nnf.
