Ooooh, I like it. If he already has songs written and mastered, think we might see an EP or something soon?

I've only had chance to have a very brief and quiet listen at work... sounds lovely.
No promotion, no advance news on it, no mention anywhere on marklanegan.com, nothing announced to onewhiskey, etc... just a song (that isn't commercially available) randomly appears one day on a random trailer for a random video game.
The usual Lanegan promotional style then. :-)

I like it. I mean, goddamn, I'm a game addict...they shouldn't combine two of my obsessions. That can't be healthy. Also they mentioned Lanegan on the game's website. So it's a tiny bit of promotion.

Personally im not keen on this, i like my Lanegan stripped down and acoustic, his voice is far too great for noise.

i don't know anything about games, so how does this work? If it is unrealeased did he write it specially for the game and if so can he release it elsewhere? Is this something he's going to make loads of money out of?. I really like what you can hear of it.

id is a pretty big gaming company with a lot of high profiles games. Mark is a great songwriter with quite the reputation. I'm going to bet they wanted Mark specifically and were willing to pay whatever price to have him.

Personally I think it works pretty much like in the movie industry. There are game soundtracks, but it's seldom that songs not specifically written for the game itself are featured on those. One exception that comes to mind would be Wipeout 2097. The soundtrack featured a number of well known techno artists, like the Prodigy with Firestarter. I think in this case it's more likely that the song was chosen simply for promotional purposes. For example Ubisoft used Unkle's Burn my shadow away in one of the trailers for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
So there's nothing stopping Lanegan from releasing the song later on. And it's probably good promotion, I just checked one german gaming site and people were already commenting quite positively on the music.
Of course I could be all wrong and they did pay him for the song. ^^

Is this something he's going to make loads of money out of?. I really like what you can hear of it. Its just licensing, like when a song is in a movie or tv commercial. The pay structure and use rules vary format to format but its the same idea- they're paying to USE the song, they don't OWN the song. This is what music publishing groups are for- not only for copyright protection, but also to handle marketing of music (with the artists approval of all uses, of course.)

I dont care if he is writing music for a porno.....its still something new ! Some of my favorite bands and artists do movie and video game gigs, Mark has bills to pay like everyone else and whatever it takes to keep the whole thing afloat, I was slightly disappointed by the first part of the clip......I was thinking ok same old same old (not that I am complaining) but then the second part started rocking g00d ! I heard him use a register of his voice I had not heard in quite some time ! I like it ! Hope whatever comes next continues to impress !
