Just registered on BMI. Might this mean some kind of release finally for the 1998/1999 demos? Or???

This would be incredible if something were to come of these tracks. 2011 could be a hell of a year for Lanegan fans.

I was pretty happy with 2009 and 2010; lots of Soulsavers, solo tour, Isobel, etc. Lanegan is a busy man for a singer. Wheels - I hope you're right.

Are any of these songs unreleased, aside from the demo? Or are they just b-sides I never got? I don't know a couple of them.

I'm pretty sure they are unreleased aside from the ones on the demo that got shopped around..

any chance this might mean a screaming trees reunion? Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, and Stone Temple Pilots have all had moderately successful reunions recently.

I dont know some of these songs so hopefully there's finally some kind of release. Have you guys heard the new album from Gary Lee Conner(the guitarist)? The band is called microdot gnome and the album is called 4d sugarcube. Its really awesome and sounds alot like old school trees.

Those bands were also far more successful than the Trees were. Aside from this board I`ve never heard anyone getting nostalgic over them..

i've never heard any nostalgia over third eye blind or gin blossoms either, but they got back together too!
anyways, i doubt it would happen, just thought someone should throw it out there. if a trees reunion does materialze though, people here will look back at that post of mine and say "wow, that guy was smart."

As far as a reunion, Lanegan has always been pretty clear that he doesn't feel the need to revisit those days again. I wouldn't look for it to happen. It would be nice if these songs saw a formal release, but I won't get my hopes up about that - the Trees were always one of the "shoulda-beens" of the grunge heyday, never even had high enough record sales to score a gold record, they're known more by name and association (i.e. they were a "grunge band" and the Singles soundtrack) than by their music. Not a big money maker. Definitely don't think a box set would ever happen. 'Twould be nice to hear all of those songs, but I'm not getting into a froth of anticipation over it.

Probably got back together over a lack of other prospects... damn, someone else said that already? i guess i won't be told how smart I was! ;D So to sum up your replies: Third Eye Blind got back together because they weren't successful enough. All the other bands I mentioned got back together because they were very successful. ;D So Screaming Trees won't reunite because they were neither successful, nor unsuccessful, right? ;D

Well if Lanegan said it, we better believe him. ;D I guess he could never change his mind about a reunion? No, Lanegan said it, so we better believe him...he never lies, always tells the truth! ;D And if a band like Beat Happening could release a box set of all their releases, why not the Screaming Trees? I'd say these bands were pretty comparable in the 80s. In the past year we've seen: Reclaiming of domain name marklanegan.com Bobbleheads Official bootlegs Theme song for a video game Song on "hangover 2" soundtrack ...so I think anything Mark does next is up for debate. this is a "fun" thread, specualtion is fun. please, throw somwthing out there...why do you think these songs were registered on BMI?

The Beat Happeing box set was released on the label co-owned by one of the band members, as all of their releases were. Not quite the same as a box set of material released by three different labels, none of them co-owned by a band member. As far as the reunion hopes, Mark has said no to a reunion multiple times, and also quite recently, as well as stating that he prefers not to dwell in the past but to look to the future. The BMI registration could have been done simply in the hopes that a label can be found that wants to release the songs, it doesn't mean that anyone has agreed to release them or has even expressed interest in doing so. Why the bobbleheads came into existence is anybody's guess, and the official "bootlegs" (there's an oxymoron that's getting on my nerves) aren't wide releases, merely self releases sold at shows and now (some of them) are on the website. A lot of artists seem to be doing that, it's an inexpensive way to make some extra money (and considering how common taping has come to be, a pretty good move - offer much better quality recordings while there is definetely a high demand for live shows). If these things pop up on Amazon (other than used) and iTunes and other platforms for wide circulation, then you can consider that a move to broaden Mark's audience. As it stands those cd's are only being marketed to the already converted. The video game and soundtrack are inarguably moves on the part of the new publicity company to market Mark's music to a broader audience, and their being hired is a clear move to expand. Is Mark trying to finally become a big rock star or is he just being realistic that he won't be able to sing forever and trying to ensure a retirement nest egg (as well as putting off that retirement for as long as he can)? In the BJL thread mokkly seemed to attribute a great deal of calculation on Mark's part toward his career, which I thought was kind of funny considering mokkly was pointing to periods in Mark's life when he was having quite a bit of trouble with addiction and could very well have done some of the "career expanding" collaborations just to get a paycheck to feed his habit. (Could there be a good reason for that god-awful stupid song with Melissa auf der Maur??) I also find it a bit amusing when people take a small gesture and try to expand it into mountains.

i find it amusing when people try to speculate about the unknown, but a know-it-all says "no, that's not the way it is, this is the way it is". lovely read. you know everything, don't you?
