With Isobel at the grand ole opry.
I just found out in the paper today. I can't go at such short notice. I've noticed it on the main page tour dates just now. But i tend to check the actual forum for dates.
Bit annoyed. But since it's only with Isobel for the zillionth time i think i can live with it.
Would've been cool seeing Mark in that venue though.

I'm going. I don't know the venue at all. It seemed a slightly odd choice.

I've noticed it on the main page tour dates just now. But i tend to check the actual forum for dates. I'm not mocking you, but I find it funny that we have exactly opposite ideas. I think of it as THE ACTUAL SITE, with the forum as an attractive add-on! Probably because the site is coming up on its 14th year now, though I grant you the forum tends to get things posted first, since everyone posts things they find as they find them, and I can only update the site when I have time. But there is a thread on the forum as well: onewhiskey.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=boarda&action=display&thread=3798Please folks send reviews - I may be slow, but I do get them posted!

I'm going. I don't know the venue at all. It seemed a slightly odd choice. It's a very odd choice. I used to walk past there with my mum many moons ago, and i'd enquire about what went on inside. She told me it was full of cowboys doing line dancing. Which it probably was. I'd go just to see Mark in such a rare venue. But sadly i cannot. I hope you enjoy the show Caitlin. I look forward to a review that hopefully, makes me feel like i was there.

Well, Glasgow last night. First of all the venue turned out to be pretty good choice. Size-wise it's a lot bigger than Oran Mor, a bit bigger than the smaller of the O2 ABC but not as large as the big ABC. The Opry staff are definitely not your usual music venue staff ( and I mean that in a good way, there were 2 mum-like ladies organising the bar queues into 2 orderly lines). Very good sound system.
The place was packed. No idea who the support act was, some local lad with a guitar, actually very good.
As for Isobel and Mark this was one of the shows where they looked as if they were enjoying themselves, (I saw them in Utrecht earlier this year and it was a more solemn affair) especially Isobel who was smiling and chatting about her mum. Mark only spoke once to ask " is this right " at the start of one song. Someone in the audience had previously shouted out "say something Mark" which made him smile but not speak , but lots of smiles and glances between the 2 of them.
Same band ( who just seem to get better and better and better) except no Jim McCulloch. No surprises in the set list, only 1 solo Isobel number ( Saturday's Gone) followed up as usual by Back Burner which as always was amazing.
They both sounded wonderful, as fresh as when the first Hawk tour started, if anything Isobel's sounding stronger. I thought Lanegan looked ( but didn't sound ) a bit tired and a bit thinner.
New (well to me) stuff, CDs of the Hollywood Cemetary and Voxhall Arhus as well as Barbican and possibly others, also vinyl. I bought the Voxhall and a replacement for the Barbican which I seem to have mislaid. Mark was doing a signing but as I had no idea where I was, or how I was going to get back to Queen Street Station or how long it would take I didn't get them signed.
