I just bet on a WFTHG demotape on ebay, it seems different from the other one we already know. this the track list:
river rise kingdom of rain el sol wheels riding the nitengale carnival train song pendulum sister ernestine's wedding
for what I know sister ernestine is the name for the Shooting Gallery instrumental in the other demo, I don't know train song what it is and I don't know if this is a fake or something found at the back of the drawer, but we will see. please even if interested in the thing don't bet as we will only increase the final price, I promise you if I won it I'll upload it in digital format in this forum for every Mark's fan. thanks

it is real, i know that because i'm the seller.
just check on the net after the Hole tape i have for sale too, that's one of its kind and is coming from the same source, thus pretty much real.
oh and btw ... asking people not to bid on something they would most likely like to own is not fair.

i don't know about that song, i'm not really into mark lanegan actually, not at all precisely. i guess the "Train Song" is "Waiting on a Train" from the third album (thanks wikipedia) but i have no way to check for sure.
i might be able to post an audio sample if there is enough interest (and i mean by that potential bidders) and i manage to get my nakamichi deck out of its storage box.
i received that tape in a huge lot coming from the us for me to transfer with my deck (i actually paid the lot to be fair). previous owner was a reviewer in an alt.music magazine and was sent these tapes to review.

Thanks very much Riccardo for the link. Perhaps the seller would like to convert and post a 'short sample' of the demo tape or train song so that we can hear it and the quality. If it is real as the seller maintains i may bid on the item also.

two audio samples from a fresh transfer done on a nakamichi dr3, with azymuth pretty much corrected : jyx.fr/ebay/lanegandemotape-riseup-sample.flacjyx.fr/ebay/lanegandemotape-trainsong-sample.flacif i'm listening correctly "Train Song" is actually "Shooting Gallery" (lyrics check on google). (and before i'm asked, the full tape hasn't been transfered as of now and won't before it sells. it's up to the buyer to do whatever he wants with the tape afterwards. although i can take care of a proper transfer with my nak deck if there is a need for an optimum transfer)

If I'm right, first sample is the previously unreleased song Shooting Gallery, second one seems to be an obscure and unheard track called The Train Song but The Train runs only when the River Rise...

Why?

by ignorance or to be able to snipe it under everyone's nose, that's probably the reason why. listen to the samples, listen to the studio versions and you'll notice the difference right away. unless i'm able to fake someone's voice (i'm not) or get access to multitrack recordings i wouldn't be able to provide unreleased samples.
how do you think i got ahold of the Hole tapes i transfered and circulated ? these tapes (the Hole ones) came from the same lot this particular tape comes from. there's no reason to doubt its authenticity.
i provided samples for people to check, instead of implying i'm a scammer take a listen ... i bought the retail album on itunes yesterday to check, i downloaded the available circulating demo tape and the samples i uploaded are different.

I think this is genuine, I listened to the samples and cd version of the album and they're differents. For what I know I can write three other cases about lost-found demo tapes: 1) Jeff Buckley "trash can demo tape", a famous bootleg that have even an history: "Sometime during fall of 1996, East Village resident Barry Paddock was walking down 2nd Ave. At 12th Street he spotted a pile of cassette tapes left on top of a garbage dumpster. Curious, he decided to sift through he tapes to see if there was anything worthwhile. Most of the tapes were pre-recorded stuff like the Beastie Boys, which he didn't particularly care for, but one tape he found was a blank tape with a hand written label that read "J. Buckley Stuff". Barry saved that tape from the trash and took it home. The tape is approx. 35 minutes long and consists of Jeff doing 7 solo acoustic covers. The best guess is that the tape was made circa 1992 or 1993" (http://www.discogs.com/Jeff-Buckley-Trash-Can-Demo-Tape-Sketches-For-My-Sweetheart-Outtakes/release/2489217). 2) the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project, all of us know what it is (http://label.glitterhouse.com/releases.php?show=152 and label.glitterhouse.com/releases.php?show=13)3) mark lost, demagnetized, all of his demotapes for blues funeral, remember?? My only desire is to let this demo surface out so we can all listen to it. I hope who will win this would be a real fan and share it with us!

I agree it would be a real shame for someone to hoard this tape. I have the money but im not sure i have the energy or desire to bid on this sort of thing anymore to be honest. As i get older other priorities take over. Its already upto 34 euro's for an old tape so its gonna be a couple of hundred by the end at least i would imagine.

Are we sure this is different from the 8 Track WFTHG demos that are ALREADY CIRCULATING?
That's why I'm skeptical.

1. Sunrise 2. Following The Rain 3. Judas Touch I 4. Shooting Gallery (instrumental) 5. Carnival 6. Wheels 7. Day and Night 8. Beggar's Blues 9. Riding the Nightingale 10 Judas Touch II

I think that all the OW members interested could set up a buying group. We are in need of a contact person who raise money and then share the demo here.
We mustn't lose the opportunity of getting a so precious document (clearly if it's not a fake).
