We heard great news last night. Mark won't be back to Europe until October, but will be releasing a new album in August.
Happy holidays everyone.

Any idea if this is the covers record that's been talked about, or an album of original material?

Really? Why would it take until August to record a cover album?
Unless he plans on making both a cover album and a MLB album by then, which to me would be a lot, considering the rumors surrounding QOTSA and Mad Season.

Really? Why would it take until August to record a cover album? Finding the time to get everyone he wants to be involved, get involved will be a bit of a task - friend of mine caught up with Duff & Barrett after a Walking Papers show and they both said that they will be on it (as he's trying to get as many people from ITCOY involved as possible), but they're recording their own 2nd album at the moment. And Mark's still in Europe anyway... After that, it's all about the scheduling - there are queues to get records mastered, queues to get CDs pressed and massive queues to get vinyl pressed at any of the few remaining plants. Then there's the fun bits of making sure that release x doesn't get in the way of release y, and when there are permissions to be sought from other labels if any of the artists involved in working on the record are contracted elsewhere, which tends to involve making sure that this release doesn't interfere with anything they're doing for their paymasters. Rinse and repeat these steps for every country that 4AD are planning on releasing in to ensure that the record is released as close to the same date as possible, and 8 months from now is quite a speedy process

And thanks for this explanation, Silence - guess it's surprising that anything gets released within 2 years or more!

I think we'll get a covers album and an album of new, original material this year. Pure conjecture on my part, but I think it'll happen.

And what about that Anthology Set Mark mentioned a couple of times in interviews? Wasn't that supposed to be out this year?

Friend of mine met Duke at the Afghan Whigs show at Koko - album's in the can, was looking for a label at the time of asking. Wow that fucking sucks what sucks? i don't think that the don't find a label, they just didn't find the perfect label and i prefer to wait and have a proper release, than have a release which comes out 14 months late without any promotion and stuff

It may be more "low-key" and lack the promotion funds one would hope an established label would spend, but what artist or band has hurt themselves with a self-release using the power of the internet? It's not unheard of for a self-released album to gain enough momentum/attention to get picked up by a label, either.
