RSD13 is this Saturday! I'm just sorting my list out, as thankfully my local indie makes price/checklists so they can see what we want and we can see how much it's going to cost us... Anyone else going? Might be fun to compare "want"lists and planned expenditure (plus any "it's how much? for some of the more bizarrely-priced items, and there are plenty of them), followed by a look back on Saturday evening at what we actually managed to snaffle, provided any of us got up early enough to get anything decent

Nice 22-min vid of the making of the Smoke Fairies EP that's top of my list* vimeo.com/64199897*Edited my purchase list as it was just over £80. Somehow, after doing this, it's now just over £90

My 'RSD wantlist' is wayyyyy too long for what I can and want to spent, so I try and not to think about it that much ;D I'll just go and see what is available and decide on the spot. Of course I'm trying to get my hands on the Mark stuff and there are some things I would like to get, but are not on the NL list (like Smoke Fairies and At The Drive In). These are some of the releases I'm interested in getting: Mad Season - Above 12" Mark Lanegan & Duke Garwood - Cold Molly Remixes 10" Mark Lanegan & Moby - The Lonely Night 7" Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Animal X 7" picture disc Elliot Smith - Alternate versions from Either/Or 7" Keaton Henson - You etched 7" Velvet Underground - Scepter Studio Sessions 12" The Doors / X - Soul Kitchen split 7" dEUS - Suds & Soda 12" Bardo Pond - Rise Above It All 12" Shangri-Las - Remember 7" Echo Beatty - Dirty Beaches 7" Low + The Dirty Three - In The Fishtank 12" Bat For Lashes - Laura 7" (I'm not really a fan but I'm in love with this song and video!) What are you going to get?

And I'm not interested in any of the Bowie, Grateful Dead, ELP or any classic, Prog Rock or Metal stuff. So I probably won't have to fight any sweaty, grumpy, fat guys, yay for that! ;D

I'm looking at getting: Mark/Moby 7" Mark/Duke 10" Smoke Fairies - Upstairs At United Vol.6 12" (which sounds like their best thing yet - "making of" vid here, bit sweary if you're at work) Shearwater & Sharon Van Etten - Stop Draggin' My Heart Around 7" Gets a bit weird after that! The next clump of things are ridiculously nerdy, but as I'm a bit of a Death Waltz Records obsessive, these will be awesome just for the artwork and mad vinyl... Alfred Hitchcock Presents / The Munsters 7" Star Trek / Lost in Space 7" The Twilight Zone - The Outer Limits 7" Steve Moore - Horror Business OST 12" Antoni Maiovvi - Yellow: Original Music From The Short Film 12" And to finish off, The Secret 7" - a bunch of artists have each made one of 700 sleeves for any one of 7 singles (100 of each, natch), which are randomly housed, sealed and distributed. The buyer has no way of knowing which 7" it is or who has done the artwork (Ai Weiwei and Gilbert & George being among the artists). The singles this year are: Elton John - Bennie & The Jets HAIM - Better Off Jessie Ware - Still Love Me Laura Marling - The Beast Nas - The Don Nick Drake - Rider On The Wheel Public Enemy - Harder Than You Think These were £40 each last year, seem to be £6.99 now Might also get the Keaton Henson 7" as a) He's brilliant b) That'll take me up to a nice round £100 c) I saw the etched side of the vinyl yesterday, and it's incredible

Still not on the street where the store is! Lovely and lively queue though, and the man who comes past occasionally with non-arrivals and sellouts like the saddest bingo game ever is keeping spirits up.

I missed out on 2 things:
Shearwater / Sharon van Etten (went after 5 minutes of shop opening) Mark/Moby (went about 5 minutes before I got into the shop 4 1/2 hours after I started queueing)
Not hugely fussed (should be able to get the Shearwater one next week, and Moby one goes digital on Mon/Tues anyway), but Plan B (the Nick Drake album) had just gone to the man in front of me so I just bought the new Low album instead to plug the gap. Everything else is here, and now I have it on the right speed, the Soulsavers is amazing (you can tell it's them!).

Weirdly, the only Secret 7" on sale on eBay (1400 RSD items on there at 11am this morning apparently) that has been opened is apparently the Grateful Dead/Dr John, neither of which were listed. I'm waiting till midnight to open mine as a) it's quite exciting; and b) I want to be drunk if it's rubbish.
EDIT: Yup, it's The Grateful Dead, Dr John & The Dixie Cups all doing versions of Iko Iko. Looks pretty though.

Piccadilly's one of the higher-profile indies over here and people were queuing from 10 last night. So yeah, it's a bit competitive which is a bit silly when the point of RSD is to make people welcome again! It's a thing that needs tweaking for sure, but most people come out happy, even (especially?) those who went in for Specific Item A only to it to have sold out, so they come out with Random Item B instead that they didn't even know existed but sends them off on a whole new musical pathway which they never would have done had they never gone into the shop in the first place. Which is why Record Store Day is brilliant Only got the one photo at the mo, I love this vinyl! Attachments:

I got Elliott Smith, Soundgarden, and White Stripes' Elephant. I missed out on Moby, Porno for Pyros, and the reason I went out this year, Mad Season.
Elephant was $50 at the shop I went to. That seemed excessive, but it was the last one and they didn't have Mad Season, so I bought it anyway...

Huge list of what Piccadilly Records have left in stock here. Some surprises (and Cold Molly is there still), and I can't recommend the Smoke Fairies (feat. Blitzen Trapper) one highly enough. Still instore purchase only, but online orders will be accepted from Saturday Morning.

I got everything I wanted except the Porno for Pyros on tie dye vinyl. That one is still going for $60 or more on ebay.
I searched the other day, and one popped up for $30. I clicked on the ad, clicked "buy it now", and clicked "commit to buy". After the last click, a message came up saying that the item is no longer available. So someone was a few seconds faster than me...
