Sorry, I know this is a Mark Lanegan site, not Lou Reed/ Velvet Underground. And I can’t say that I recall reading or hearing where Lanegan ever said Velvet Underground or Lou Reed was an influence* (did he?). However, as Mark Lanegan and Screaming Trees fall under the rock music genre, it seems fitting to mention the passing of someone who had such an undeniable and large impact on rock music. Listening to my Best of Velvet Underground, Words & Music of Lou Reed CD. Heroine and now All Tomorrow’s Parties is playing at the mo…( darn I’d better leave for work. How is it I am running late again?... )
*oh wait, John Cale is his hero. So there you go, very appropriate to post…

I believe Mark did mention Lou Reed's "Berlin" as one of his favourite records at one point (Quietus?). And I think he and the other trees were into their VU.

Always LOVED The Trees cover of What Goes On. Lou will definitely be missed, always been a VU fan myself...

RIP Lou Reed

I often fantasized about a cover of Pale Blue Eyes made by Mark...

Lanegan played Satellite of Love last night... Sweet. Great Lou tune. I could picture him doing a mean "Venus in Furs" with that string section, though.

Lanegan played Satellite of Love last night... Sweet. Great Lou tune. I could picture him doing a mean "Venus in Furs" with that string section, though. They played that last night as well in Edinburgh and I thought it was one of the stand out songs of the night. I actually think that version is better than the songs he has covered on Imitations!
